I've listened several times, and followed most of them for years, those in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band. This composition is extraordinary by a McGill University music professor. Listen to the whole piece here: Seafever, Christine Jensen

Why doesn’t the jazz station here in LA play this band and some of the other Sant Andreu musicians? These women can hold their own with anyone! This is high quality jazz!

Here in the boondocks, the one (syndicated) jazz program I get on the radio seems to include a lot of "friends of the show" or "my pal X" references. I've also had suspicions of payola, but that's just the skeptic in me drifting toward cynicism. You're right. This band and the individuals in smaller groups are wonderful. Though she left SAJB early, and might not have ever had a solo, Irene Reig turns out great jazz on a regular basis in trio and quintet settings and with The Bop Collective, which she leads. AND, thanks to all involved for assembling all of this talent.

@@garyedmondson2998 I think we are listening to the same station. Three of the DJ's are muscians and the other DJ's play their collleagues music. Not much new stuff being played.

A women's jazz band seems thwarted as an idea around the table as eyes fix on Andrea's baby boy, in utter delight. This, you imagine, will be the undoing of all those women's efforts to build a jazz career. But, NO. Andrea then Rita set stunning examples of working through the eighth month of pregnancy (twice, it seems likely*) then touring and recording prodigiously as new mothers. This is wonderful, empowering, having your cake and eating it, stuff. Families can be the powerhouse of making music.
*Two each and now Elia Bastida working into her third trimester.
If you haven't seen the Seafever rehearsal, you must. Eva Fernandez shines the brightest among a galaxy of talent.

What an amazing group of young musicians. Is it possible to purchase a download of their album? Or only the CD?

It sounds super well ! But why a sexist group ? (sorry maybe the explanation is in the video but I don't speak Spanish)

You can switch on subtitles and have them translated in real time. Its interesting that Rita pushes back on "women only". I think the experience of those lucky enough to encounter SAJB might not have seen the undoubted residual sexism of the jazz scene, at least as it applies to female instrumentalists. SAJB seems to be setting the record fabulously straight.
