Music legend and musical artist, Tom Jones is interviewed on the Charlie Rose Show talking about his life and long career, including stories about Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, and fellow Welch celebrity, Sir Richard Burton. Tom also promotes his new book, Over The Top And Back.
Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE (b.1940), known professionally as Tom Jones, is a Welsh singer. His career began with a string of top-ten hits in the mid-1960s. He has toured regularly, with appearances in Las Vegas (1967-2011). Jones's voice has been described by AllMusic as a "full-throated, robust baritone". His performing range has included pop, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, soul and gospel. In 2008, the New York Times called Jones a musical "shape shifter", who could "slide from soulful rasp to pop croon, with a voice as husky as it was pretty". Jones has sold over 100 million records, with 36 Top 40 hits in the UK and 19 in the US, including "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat?", the theme song for the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball, "Green, Green Grass of Home", "Delilah", "She's a Lady", "Kiss" and "Sex Bomb". Jones has also occasionally dabbled in acting, first making his acting debut playing the lead role in the 1979 television film Pleasure Cove. He also appeared as himself in Tim Burton's 1996 film Mars Attacks! In 1970 he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Television Series Musical or Comedy nomination for hosting the television series This Is Tom Jones. In 2012, he played his first dramatic acting role in an episode of Playhouse Presents. Jones received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1966, an MTV Video Music Award in 1989, as well as two Brit Awards: Best British Male in 2000 and the Outstanding Contribution to Music award in 2003. Jones was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music in 2005. Jones experienced a resurgence in notability in the 2010s due to his coaching role on the television talent show The Voice UK from 2012 (with the exception of 2016) -Wikipedia

Amazing interview!I went to his concert in Hampton Court a couple weeks ago.83 years old now, still great.Actually his voice has even improved..While a lot of singers lose the beauty of their voice in the years..

In the fall of 1969 I was a senior in high school. On Thursday nights my school had a pep rally to cheer on our football team that would be playing the next night. During this time, Sir Tom had a television show and would have other entertainers on as well as himself. As soon as the pep rally was over I would rush home to watch his show....never wanted to miss it......I have had the opportunity to see him in person twice since I have been an adult. I will go see him again if ever given a chance......keep singing Sir Tom.....

Charlie Rose was a master of the interview. He never touched on anything that would make Sir Tom uncomfortable, and we’ll he shouldn’t. Tom’s career speakers for itself.
Yeah, but he kept interrupting Tom and changing the subject. Sometimes Charlie could get a little abrupt, althought he do good interviews.
But, he'd ask another question before Tom could finish a thought or story.
Spot on, about Charlie’s constant interruptions! It got downright annoying, as the interview went on! I was thinking, gosh, what a lousy interviewer! Ask a question and shut up, already!

It is time for Sir Tom to add to his autobiography………please.
I wish he had said "one of my sons" or "my son Mark"--horrible really the way he seems to deny the other man even exists. I sure hope this, I hope he knows, that just like Lennon, when he is gone the other son WILL have access to royalties-the courts have been solid on this. And I hope it sticks in his craw--this from a guy who really is a fan of his great voice and amazing delivery of songs--real commitment to the songs he sings. But as a man.......just too much, also the women he treated like trash. Young men, admire his voice and performance, but don't look up to this man.
The son you refer to has found a never ending fund. Sir Tom willingly pays far more than the son & his mother would ever earn. It was a costly error of judgement for Sir Tom.
It takes two to tango & the mother is still dancing. It was never a love affair. It was just an opportunity. Born in 1940, it's typical by the 60s, many married men were discreetly intimate with females who threw and put putting themselves forward. She didn't use protection & didn't tell Sir Tom. He of course, was equally responsible for protection, yet, as is often the case, he assumed she took The Pill, freely available in the 60s/70s/80s.
Sir Tom is very respective towards women and each participant knows what they're doing.

Yes he is one of the greatest singers ever. But it is hard to admire a man who had to be forced into taking a dna test before admitting he had a son. And has never spoken to the boy in his life. That to me speaks volumes about him. To me his incredible talent is meaningless in the mark of a man.
