I just finished reading On Immunity and this is the first I've been able to see and hear Eula Biss talk. I think her writing is profoundly intelligent and elegant. I was enchanted by her overall intellect and writing style and will no doubt read everything she ever puts out. It's nice to see her and hear her. I see this guy from 4 years ago commenting here...having read the book I don't think he read it, or was reading it with an open mind.
I just read "White Debt." I've been bullied by some cops, and I've been treated kindly by others. When black teens all butted in front of me in line at a drug store, the black cashier kindly told them that it was my turn and she treated me kindly. What I'm saying is that Biss earned her home through hard work, just like my black neighbors in their beautiful suburban homes earned theirs. I wish for Eula Biss to find peacefulness and confidence in doing the best that she can for herself and her family, as we all must do to find our moments of happiness in this mad, mad world :)
Ok...I am not sure where to begin? First off, I am amazed by the lack of feed back in this comment forum! Second.. For me the overwhelming take away is that, as a concerned and carefully composed individual and mother that you are Eula, you are still over looking the very real and important time lines between the history of vaccines, and there effectivness, and the very real advancements in human diet, and living conditions that we are capable of today. I can most assuredly attest to the financial status that I live under does not fall into the category of privilege or wealth. Yet! I am still resolute in my stance, that injecting a healthy infant with multiple viruses is outside everything found within our natural planetary experience. When I say that I hear you. I mean that in the most heart felt way. You are obviously a wonderful and caring individual. I implore you to set aside you're fears and overactive western control reactions, and move foward With a more instinctual, calm and rational take on parenting. You speak of fear in this piece, and it really is the basis of action from there on out. I will leave it here... But I know this is a deep and involved subject, so I invite you to respond. I am the same concerned parent of, in my world, a six year old girl.

More Eula Biss please.Sanity and deep knowledge are rare in all the topics she writes about.
Eula Biss is my absolute favorite nonfiction writer and I aspire to be like her.
