Find some good studs for them and use a 12pt or aviation nut. Not usually that easy to find the correct length studs but should make the bracket last longer.
Timesert would be a more permanent repair and likely what the manufacturer added in to their design after the fact. Since there was an existing hole not sure drill press is necessary or advisable. Handheld drill should naturally follow the existing hole. If an inexperienced drill press operator doesn’t set it up square then it will drill off center.
