The concern was completely unwarranted. This cover brought the magic.
This song is about something getting in the way of whatever one's goals are. Cobain's obstacles are different from what hinders Bruce, but the song works in the world Reeves is building because Bruce himself stands in the way of the symbol he wants Batman to be.

The cello is not off, the rest of the instruments in the band were tunned to Kurt's guitar.... which was perpetually out of tune. Despite multiple "better" recordings of the song including the 1993 Unplugged recording existing the out-of-tune 1991 version generally gets used. It was also the version used in the 2020 batman trailer that put the song in its best-ever billboard rankings including a top 2 in the US for the first time.....29 years after it was recorded. He always keeps you on you toes as you never quite know what he'll do next or how he'll do it. Like this cover, he kept the beautiful and haunting overtone of the original with a bit more intensity without going full on screamo which is what I expecting when I clicked on the video. He's fantastic
