Can you imagine, the sopranos who sang Mozart and Strauss in Vienna in the first decades after the war. Schwarzkopf, Della Casa, Rothenberger, Janowitz, and later Popp. All magnificent voices, all beautiful women. What an abundance of riches. For me, Janowitz's silvery, shimmering soprano may be the most beautiful of all the female voices I have heard. Her version of Strauss' song Morgen, is extremely moving.
This recording makes me cry every time I listen - the others are good, but this seems to come from a very special, quite different place. Thank you Anna, & of course Gundula & Berndt. I am so lucky.
Great but Lisa Della Casa is a wonderful Arabella too, with George London. Maybe Gundula Janowitz was inspired. Both great actors, Bernd Weikl and Gundula Janowitz. (Happy New year 2022)
An echo from a distant world. Music that could make angels weep. One of the most beautiful love songs of all time. "Und du wirst mein Gebieter sein" duet from Act 2 of Richard Strauss's Arabella. Listen to the exquisite words, each one a pearl that fell from heaven and broke into a thousand pieces when it struck the ground. And then the French horns softly cut in to paint the sunset. Ich bitte Sie darum You shall be my lord and I your subject. Your house shall be my house, In your grave I want to buried with you I give myself to you for all time and eternity. But now I must go home, I’m ask leave of thee...

Ms Janowitz just turned 80 on 8/2 - happy birthday, Gundula. How your singing has enriched my life.

Vielen Dank.

You will never hear this better sung. Absolutely exquisite from Janowitz.

Einfach traumhaft.
Janowitz is always free of any affectation. What she expresses is always pure.
Who are the 2 poor sad people who disliked THIS?
Breathtaking ! Great interpreters !!!

wow
Why couldn't Hitler have been a fan of Richard Strauss instead of Richard Wagner? What a different world this could have been....
Who the hell are those two who disliked it?!
HUGES.
