  • Welcome to my "Don't Let Me Down" Guitar Lesson + Tutorial, by The Beatles. This song has 3 chords, but is really like two easy 2 chord songs for guitar. A rooftop rock classic that uses a very easy strumming pattern and is perfect if you are a beginner who is just getting started on guitar and want to improve your ability to count along to music.
"Don't Let Me Down" CHORDS: E, B7, F#m (super easy version or barre chord)
"Don't Let Me Down" STRUMMING PATTERN: R-R-D-Du

"Don't Let Me Down" TABLE OF CONTENTS
    0:00 - INTRO
    1:46 - CHORD SHAPES
    3:05 - SWITCHING PRACTICE
    4:45 - STRUMMING PATTERN
    6:38 - THE CHORUS
    8:17 - THE VERSE
    9:16 - THE VERSE COUNTING
    11:12 - VERSE+CHORUS PLAY-ALONG
    12:27 - THE BRIDGE
    14:10 - FINAL PLAY-ALONG
    16:28 - TIPS+RESOURCES
The lesson begins with the chord shapes needed to play the majority of the tune. The song primarily uses two easy chords: E and F sharp minor. F#m can be played as a barre chord, but I also have an easy way to play F#m that turns this song into one of the easiest songs on guitar.
We practice the chord shapes, we practice switching between them, counting along and then we add a strumming pattern, which is also very easy, as there's no syncopation or off-beat feeling. We learn to count it out and then we add it to our chords, playing the strumming pattern four times per chord shape. We play the chorus together and then we move on to learn the verse.
The verse is almost the exact same thing as the chorus except there's a couple sections where we strum the chord, let it ring out, and count. These counting sections are the hardest part of the song. We work through it going through each one of them and then we play the verse and chorus together so you can see how it all fits.
The bridge requires one new chord shape, B7. We switch from E to B7 and back to E, and that's the entire bridge. Finally, we put the whole thing together playing through each section like we would in the tune - nice and slow!
If you'd like to practice the entire song with me, there's a full playthrough available on my Patreon page, where I play through the entire song, start to finish. More information on that here: / 62562902

By the way, I'm also making a lesson covering all of George Harrison's amazing leads from this tune... Aside from that any other classic Beatles you'd like to learn?

Black Bird or Norwegian wood would be sweet. Also Mother by Pink Floyd I think would be a great one.

I just found you today. Watched a few of your videos. Very informative. One in particular helped a lot and I can’t find it again. I didn’t take note of its title. I’m sure I’ll find it again, but I do remember the drills. This might just get me motivated again. It was about several four chord transitions and exercises to improve accuracy finding each chord.
I bought my first guitar in the fall of 2019 and practiced religiously for two solid months. I was getting overwhelmed with how much there was to learn and frustrated with the actual physical effort, (hand strength, flexibility and coordination), required to make music on the instrument. I gradually stopped practicing until I quit all together. I’m ready to get back at’er.
I found your exercises relatively easy and I think they will help me to start playing actual songs fairly quickly. That’s the motivation I need to get excited again. I wish I had started playing when I was a kid. Here I am at 69, an old dog, trying to learn new tricks. I think I can, I think I can. 😊

Thank you! I love this tutorial and I'm looking forward to doing the full play-through on your Patreon page when I'm ready. I did my first ever play-through for Leaving On a Jet Plane and it was awesome. I love the Beatles and would enjoy any song. Also I would love to see a beginner tutorial of Both Sides Now - the Judy Collins version, fingers crossed.

I am thrilled to learn your "Don't Let me Down" lesson. You are methodical and the scrolling measures are so-o-o visually helpful. I asked my teacher why you show four measures(4 beats each) for each chorus line: "Don't let me down." The Bridge scrolling to E on "past" has only 2 measures. Did I miss the other two measures?
On strumming pattern, I really liked your two patterns: R-R, down, down-up and Down, miss, Up, Up. They match the mood naturally. I tend to get long in analysis!

Kinda disappointed that the full version doesn't have the scrolling tabs at the top. Also, I wish it was this tempo and and a seperate video at the original temple instead of just the faster tempo. No tabs provided either.
