Flux is the wonder chemical in all sorts of soldering operations. It's amusing how many people try to work on circuit boards without using it. It makes installing and removing components much better and tends to prevent doing damage to pads and traces on a board. One of the keys in doing these operations is to keep the time you have to apply heat to a minimum. Without using enough flux that becomes impossible.
Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated. You are right , flux is definitely the king 👑 .
I do it because I don't want to clean my circuits with soap and water you sob 😂

@@mrsolderfix3996that one in the movie is rosin? That one like amber rock but when heated changes to fluid?
I mean for soldering (not desoldering) I never needed much more than fluxcore solder.
I feel like a complete idiot full well knowing what flux does, having both flux pens and syringes, but it never occurring to me it could be used for both *application* and *removal* of flux.
This will hopefully be the single most useful UA-cam video for electronics in 2024!
Thanks! ❤️
I agree😂
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
Wow, I never got why my wicks did not wick while for some it did. Thank you so much
Yep, it's one of the three wick desoldering tricks. The first is to reflow the joints with fresh solder (old oxidized solder does not take heat well). The second is to preheat the joint (the first step usually takes care of this for small joints, but for larger components like metal shielded connectors a hot air station or board preheater may be necessary), this decreases the time it takes for the wick to heat up and the flux to activate. The last is this one: add fresh flux to your wick -- the fresh flux seems to activate faster which speeds the cleaning of any oxidation off of the copper wick (this is what flux is used for, as solder will not flow onto oxidized surfaces). You can see the flux in action in this video. In the attempts without the extra flux, you don't see the flux liquify (or it does so very slowly, or only close to the iron tip). After adding the extra flux, you see the flux quickly change color all along the wick giving the solder somewhere to go (remember, solder will not flow to oxidized or too cold surfaces).
@@davidcameron648 Indeed reflowing joints with flux works wonders for clogged tru-hole pads.
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
@@mrsolderfix3996good for sharing this video. Where can I get this Flux. If on Aliexpress just tell name of Flux. Thanks in advance.
Never enough flux 😊
for those who don't get it, he's dipping the wick in liquid flux. if all you have is solder core lead/tin solder on hand, you can also add a huge amount of new lead/tin to a joint and then wick that up quickly and flux core juice will get on the wick and do the same thing. dipping it in liquid flux is WAY easier though
whats a good liquid solder flux to buy?
If you don't have a big open container of liquid flux to dip it in, you can also just apply some flux to the board area first (using a flux pen, dropper, etc), and then put the braid down on top of the solder/flux.
I've been soldering for over 20 years, and never once did it occur to me to flux my wick. Now I feel like an idiot.
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very kind of you . Even though wick comes pre fluxed it still struggles at times . Add flux and it's amazing . Hopefully the video can help a few people learn this simple tip . Thanks again , take care 👍
What I normally do is use a q tip to add an appropriate amount of flux to whatever solder I'm removing first, then press the wick and iron on top
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
Chemtronics makes pre-fluxed desoldering braids. They work great 👍
Hi , I always use Chemtronics or Multicore desoldering braid that is pre fluxed but adding a light layer of rework flux to it takes it to a different level . I know many people in the Electronics industry who use these pre fluxed braids who now add extra flux to them . One of the best tips I've picked up. Thank you for your comment 👍
I was going to make this comment about the fluxed braids - I use Chem-Wik which I’ve found to be brilliant but will try some extra flux on it next time!
I'm broke af, so i prefer cheap ones, just adding small drop of flux that i have, and it works like a charm
I've gotten decent with braid without flux but dear Lord this is going to make my life so much easier. desoldering a through whole audio transformer was a nightmare
People are always amazed by this. You can even do it (although less successfully) with cheap flux
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
Genuine game changer for me. I'm always struggling with my wick. Can't wait to try this out.

Some quality solder braids used to be pre-fluxed, i've not seen those for a long time tho, I use a liquid no-clean flux
The last one i bought was pre-fluxed. I think it's from MG Chemicals
MG Chemicals or Chemtronics
Hi , thank you for your comment. I mainly use Chemtronics or Multicore braids but even the pre fluxed ones benefit massively by adding a small amount of external flux . Thanks again , take care 👍
It's a crazy trick. It works very well. Thanks

Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
One of the first actual useful and most importantly very sensible techniques I've seen in a shorts vid.
I'm working in an electronics laboratory and wouldn't like to miss this doing solder work 🔥
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
Hi! What brand of flux and wick do you use? I have been using alpha flux with great results but yours looks better
Excelente consejo👏👏👏👏

Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , your support is very much appreciated 👍
I like to spread the copper weave apart sometimes that helps
Hi , thank you for your comment . You make a good point , sometimes loosening up the braid weave can significantly help with wicking of the solder . Thank you for your useful thought , take care 👍
Nice video!! 😂 I love sticklers :)
Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated 👍
Hello bro, I have a question. Is the wire dipping into the solder paste?
Amazing. Can you recommend some flux? I have never used the stuff before.
Hi, you are a real magician!
Whenever I hear the Arthur C. Clarke quote --“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”, I like to add --"Any sufficiently skilled person is indistinguishable from a magician".
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
I always fray the ends of the solder wick. Helps it capture more solder and makes me spend less. Don't skimp on flux! Seriously it should be everywhere you heat up
❤wow ❤ that's good❤ thanks❤
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
Wow😮
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
bruh. just started as a tech and def gonna be using the "super braid" lol

I have always added flux
Gracias por el truco 👍
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
When I started solder, no one, no teacher told me this, but one day it occurred to me to do it, but I did it secretly, thinking that it was not the right thing to do, and I would look like an idiot... Then I realized that this way it had to be. xd 😂😂
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated . I'm glad you did this , great thinking 👍
waw mantap nih ilmu bermanfaat
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
I was just thinking about why my wick doesn't work like in vidoes, Wow youtube really reads your mind. 😮
Super bro
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
U can also fold and unfold it a few times so it will get a bit bigger and work like a charm
Thank you
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
Amazing. Here i thought it was because i had a cheap brand solder wick 😂😂 can't wait to try this! What kind of flux do you use?
Suuupppeeerrr😊😊.
Hi , thank you for your support of my channel , very much appreciated 👍
No way. I need to try this.
Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated. This works great , I hope you try it and are nicely surprised . Thanks again , take care 👍
wooooooooooooooow!!!!👍👍👍👍
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
Really great method, and very well demonstrated. However if you use good quality wick like for example Soder-wick by Chemtronics, then the braid will already be saturated with flux and with its strong capillary action it will suck the solder off like a pump without having to ever flux the wick.
Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated. I use 2 brands of braid , Chemtronics and Multicore . Like you say they come pre loaded with an amount of flux . But adding extra flux turns them from good to amazing . At times braid doesn't aways perform as it should . This is how to solve that problem . Thanks again , take care 👍
That was funny. Nice.
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , much appreciated 👍
Nice
Hi , thank you for your comment , very kind of you 👍
do you have some recommendations of flux brand?
what kind of flux is this? and which brand?
which microscope you using bro and what combination please telll very impressd
Wow - never heard that you were supposed to use flux with braid before. This is WICKED!
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
what is the name of that flux?
❤❤❤
Hi , thank you 👍
Excelente
Great, now I know why it never worked when I needed...
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , hopefully the video can help a few people out 👍
Hello. What kind of flux are you using? The only kind that I can find is either a solid or a paste? Would love to find this type. Thx
It also really depends if you got copper wick or copper coated aluminium wicks, I got tricked once buying it since it was like less than a dollar
Hello. What brand of solder wick is?
Never used flux on a wick, this is going to save so much frustration.
Hi , thank you for your comment. Flux and solder braid = ❤️
What did you dip it in???
@@camrin8937 liquid rosin flux
I like your camera. What do you use?
Tnx bro
Hi , thank you for watching the video and commenting , very much appreciated 👍
Thanks for sharing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Pest ki brand ur name kyaa hey
Hi , thank you for watching the video , much appreciated 👍
If you should find yourself without flux, preheat the braid and it should soak it right up. Temperature plays a large part in busting those oxide layers.
