    Sam, if you removed your oil pan I believe you’d find a lot of the sludge still in the bottom of the engine. In the future I would really suggest filling your engine to the top with diesel fuel, letting it sit for a few days then dump and refill with clean oil. Best of luck.

    My only concern would be the stress on the 130 chassis the torque on the Cummins is massive in comparison. You've done a great swap and its apparent you had this in mind.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  Рік тому

      If you’ve ever seen a Defender 110/130 chassis, you’ll see that they’re hugely strong and over engineered - at least as strong as the Dodge Ram frames in the US which are only a “C” section as opposed to fully enclosed box on the Landy.

    Lucky! only those caps popped out! I guess that is the reason for making non permanent sealed water jacket section of engine? Is that 2.8L cummins modern engine? I guess it does not bolt on straight to the defeder chasis? Truck sounds smooth!

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  Рік тому

      Yeah - they’re sometimes called freeze plugs as that’s partially their function to allow expansion to happen without damage.
      It’s actually a 5.9 Cummins 6BT, and it’s around 20 years old so not that modern now - though it’s more modern than the Land Rover it’s in!

    Loved this video! A very very nice vehicle and happy to see it did not die! Here in Finland it is mandatory, always ALWAYS use strong mixture of antifreeze(50/50) all year long as the winters are long and cold....I am currently searching for a Range Rover Classic to use as a classic winter beater but good, honest and well looked after vehicles are short in supply or just too expensive.....Well I need to keep an eye for one! Looks to be in great condition this jeep and I imagine it won't be easy to get parked in some places, the 110 isn't very nimble so this will take some planning as to where the 130 with its RANGIE modified steering will turn into. For your lengthyou are in Ireland you don't seem to put on wellies for the washing jobs. Great video again.

    The Commins engine sounds pretty nice ! Way better than the Puma engine I had in my 110 I used to own. I only had it a year. It was my daily drive. I’m obviously not a true Landrover lover because a year was long enough for me. So my L420 is my daily drive now and my old RANGIE V8 Vogue a second car. Off to the Landrover International Show in a couple of weeks. Hopefully get some bits for the old V8.

    Thanks very much for your videos mate.
    A real pleasure to listen to all the details that you have covered, and explained, and of course the footage that you have shared.
    Just wondering, have you managed to get in contact with Tom Davies at all?
    I believe Tom Davies was one of the first Pioneering Landy owners to put the 5.9 Cummins in a few years back.
    He has some interested detailed videos of his rig.
    Cheers, from Townsville, Australia.

I've been involved with the Cummins LR scene from near the very start thanks to my Uni mate Nick who did the first conversion into a 90 and runs the Cummins Land Rover Group on Facebook.

    Assuming that to be the B Series 5.9 litre Cummins as removed from a Case Maxxum tractor or a 360 excavator, what are its maximum revs. In most industrial applications they are rated to 2200 rpm and governed to no more than 2400 no load. This would be very restrictive through a five speed Land Rover manual gearbox it seems to me, compared to LR engines that are generally rated to 4000rpm.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  Рік тому +1

      Yes 5.9 6BT. It's currently governed at 2400rpm but I have a replacement Bosch spring for the pump that will take it up to 3200rpm. It's not a Land Rover box - it's a ZF S5-42 from a DAF, which is a lot stronger than any LR box but is geared fairly similarly. The transfer box is running an increased output ratio of 1:1 (from original of 1.4:1) so she cruises fairly nicely at 65mph, which is plenty in an old Landy. Ideally it would have the 0.9 gearset which would drop the cruising revs down a bit, but it's perfectly useable as it is. Cheers for the comments!

  • @hedydd2
    @hedydd2 Рік тому

    Absolutely basic mistake/balls-up. I worked at a tractor main franchised dealer for ten years and one of the annual rituals was to go around all hundred or so used tractors every November checking that they all had antifreeze ration correct in the coolant. Also the crop sprayers and anything else that might have water inside of housings. The sprayers were nominally empty but needed antifreeze coolant sent through all liquid pipes and nozzles. It took a day or so for every 25 units considering that some would need draining, refilling and run a while to circulate coolant through all systems including the cab heating circuit.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  Рік тому

      Yes - very basic. I was working on the cooling system earlier in the year and totally forgot that I had filled up with water for testing. Ah well, shit happens, won't do it again!

    Why did autodoc come up with an L405 RANGIE when you put your L322 reg in. Great content as always. Cheers.

      Seems to be a glitch on their site. The parts it brings up are for the correct car. I've informed my contact over there 👍

    I'm interested in whether you managed to move all your cars to Ireland without paying vrt? I understand you can bring cars in (we might move to Donegal in 5 years or so when our uk mortgage is up) without paying it if you're relocating your life to Ireland? (Not a second house) it sounds like you haven't registered them all at the same time?
    Is your rangie €2550/year to tax? I'm considering maybe buying a 100 series land cruiser so i can tax it as a classic. The number i think it'd cost me to tax my L322 is potentially unmanageable.
    Is there a limit to how many cars you can dodge VRT on? I think we'd most likely be bringing 3 cars over

      @SamsMotors  Рік тому

      Hey Nick,
      So there doesn’t seem to be a limit on VRT exemptions. There is a page on the Irish gov website that does state you can only claim 1 exemption, BUT when I inquired directly with Revenue, I was able to claim 2 (L322 and 130) and my partner claimed her own car separately.
      My email is in the channel About page, send me a message if you want to talk in more detail!
      Sam
