I have been thinking about this for last 5 years. Why we are not using nuclear power. But now here it is music to my ears. ❤
Nuclear Power cant be used to propel space craft . Because we need a resistance to act against in order to push aircraft . Like Nuclear Submarine does work against water to push itself forward .
Since Space is all vacuum We cant use Nuclear energy for propulsion . We need to release gas backward to move forward . That's the only way . Nuclear engines don't throw any matter to give momentum to spacecraft .
Nuclear energy in this engine will be the most probably secondary form of energy . Never primary .
We are not using it because it doesn't work. And this channel is misleading. Nuclear propulsion is fictional and there is no science behind it. What isro is developing is a nuclear powered ion thruster. This engine uses a small nuclear reactor as a source of electricity and the electricity powers the ion thrusters. There is no nuclear propulsion.

RTG is NOT a Rocket engine. Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator, is basically a nuclear battery for powering and heating things and long mission life of the probes/satellites. ISRO and BARC have been trying to develop RTGs since a decade ago and made few developments. This is not a new news.

I think sir you got it wrong, There is no nuclear engine. Not even NASA or the Russian space agency has this type of engine.
RTG is different, it keeps rovers and satellite warm and provides a very low amount of electricity, which is in this case 100watts which is less then some of the mobile charger we are getting nowadays..😊
Anyways just think how a 100 watts will provide enough thrust to propulse a rocket to space. Maybe it is sufficient for a drone. But for that too their weight should be less than 500grms which is near to impossible.
And if the power is given in watts then how is it going to provide thrust, by using propellers?
If yes then how it will work in space, as there is no air in there or say it is vacuum.

Man RTGs are NOT used in rockets, they are used to provide electric power to Satellites for example Chandrayaan. A rocket and a satellite are two different things. An RTG is not an engine.

You used sentence - nuclear propulsion! It's not nuclear propulsion...Nuclear power can help generate electricity for long haul expeditions but cannot propel a rocket directly. Maybe they can create ion thrusters using electricity generated from nuclear fission.

Wait but aren't RHUs the heating units that keep the spacecraft warm so that machinery can work. How is that related to the nuclear propulsion system? And to move a rocket in space you have to eject something from it, the 3rd law of motion tells us that. So how does nuclear propulsion work, as it would generate heat and not something to throw out of the spacecraft.
