Not always the biggest Horowitz fan, but here we have a complete emotional world delivered with the utmost subtlety and artistry. Truly unique.

Horowitz somehow makes the piano sing like no one else. What I love about watching him play is the economy in motion. There's not one extra bit of movement in his hands, he appears to play in slow motion. A true master.

I couldn't agree more. You may like the way he plays or not, but there is no denying that there couldn't be more economy in his hands movements. There's not a single unnecessary movement. That defines him.

Watch Krystian Zimerman, Argerich or Stephen Hough... they all have this effortless technique. Horowitz is different though, his is more strange

Correct me if im wrong but I think I hear a slight mistake in the left hand melody ( 2:20 )? He's still a legend nevertheless but I just wanted a second pair of ears!

It is amazing to watch how this frail old man who can hardly walk and rasps when he breathes sits down at the piano and becomes a SUPERMAN. I am not just talking about the flawless musical virtuosity, I am talking about the sheer physical strength it takes to play any one of the lengthy piano busters that he always plays with perfection even at this advanced age.
HOROWITZ is amazing and after comparing his performances to those of all the other major pianists of his era, including the much vaunted RACHMANINOV...HOROWITZ is still the best and in a class of his own.

One of the first times I hear Horowitz play with some form of restraint a piece famous for being - wrongly - played by most at lightning speed as if it was nothing more than a show-offy demonstration of arpeggios.
I’m not a Horowitz fan at all but there is some strong musicality here and I command him for it. Great performance.

Memorization comes naturally as you practice a piece, without much extra effort. It ends up being like 90% muscle memory and 10% actually thinking about the notes you’re playing. Also this piece in particular repeats a lot and is harmonically simple if you break it down. Mostly I, IV, and V chords.
