I think you both nailed it! Your description of Mike’s being a commissioned image, while yours as an art print captured what I liked about each of your images. Shame you could only choose one image each from your sets!
Always feel guilty when I pick the other photographer's photo, but I prefer the fact that it's in colour (not color ;-) ) and that the model is facing the camera. But apart from that, yours was great. Hope the series returns - it's something I look forward to watching.
Hooray for the M50! It made me fall in love with photography. So light you can walk with it for a few hours and take pictures of whatever you fancy without getting tired.
I truly love this series you've put together! And this may be one of my favorites yet. I thought he was gonna hand it to you, too. But just goes to show, a decently capable camera, good editing and a creative vision can make truly stunning images. They are both absolutely gorgeous photos!!!
Great shoot! I love my M50 and sometimes struggle deciding between the 5D iv or the smaller sibling when doing casual shoots. BTW, they are called "kit lens" because they are sold as a kit with the camera bodies, and usually are cheaper and lower specs than the ones you can buy separately. For example the EF 24-105 L II is included as a "kit" option with the 5D iv and it doesnt mean it is a bad lens, simply that it comes bundled in the same box with the body :)
I pick Mikes photo by a hair, I just love the soft feeling, easy flowing of his shot. Now on your photo it is harder to get a great B&W photo than a color IMHO. You nailed that. Like you said your photo would be great for a hotel on the beach but his shows off his Wife's beauty and would go on their home wall. I also love the challenge series your doing with Sal 🙂
I love this series! I have moved from the M50mk2 to the R7 but this video makes me glad I kept the M50 for travel. Love that powerful little camera; trying to get all ef-m lenses now that more of them are appearing on the used market. Keeping my adapted EF lenses for the R7 since it feels better than adapted EF on the M50.
I believe you really confirmed your opening statement with this video... a basic APS-c camera in the hands of two really good photographers. I heard the comments about not being so sharp, I think in today's photography we get too hung up on sharpness and bokeh. The softness adds to the portrait... sorry I liked both images! I liked the B&W in particular because it could be hung up as a piece of art simply because you can't identify the person. Enjoyed this video...
I should do one of these, I've spent decades having to use budget kit! The M50 II [possibly the best M camera available] and indeed the M50 isn't much of a challenge, the M50 is so good I didn't even bother upgrading it! haha. Dunno, I guess it's very subjective, Michael's image I so expressive but the background is messy, a clean and decisive image from the Queen of direction, so for me, it's an easy Joyful win!
Hi Vanessa , love these budget gear shoot outs. They're both great photos, gut i have a soft spot for black & white so that gets my vote, plus it looks more natural , like you snapped her just walking away , the other photo is great but looks posed , that's fine just not my thing. :)
Nice! I prefer the black and white. The M50 II is a great little camera and the kit lenses are surprisingly adequate for portraits. $700 for a kit. Not really my idea of "budget" but fun. Would love to see some BUDGET gear used. Like $30 point and shoots or at least a $50 Nikon D50 or something.
Dare I say.. I actually like Vanessa's better (even though its Mike's wife), because I looove the B&W composition with the "one-point perspective" framing, and because she's facing the other way, it adds mystery to it and therefore makes you think. "What does she look like? What is she looking at? Where is she walking to?"
Usually I am underwhelmed by digital B&W but yours had a great feel to it. I thought for sure with the great sky color that I was going to like Michael's better, but yours is just wonderful. You both did a wonderful job.
Both great pictures, honestly ..... I will go with Michael's one just because for some reason I am not loving the way the buildings in the background look in Vanessa's BW, but, as I said, it's veeeery subjective 😊
Great photos! He really captured a moment. Surprised you don’t use motor drive more often. It has its uses. P.S. this video went by so fast. You’re making it harder for me to watch videos that go on too long.
Personally, on Mike's photo I would have cropped out her feet up to her dress, just look a bit clunky and awkward. the problem with that is you would lose the sand/beach part of the photo. If he had just shot a bit higher. For that reason, my vote Vanessa wins.
I think he overdid the light on her upper body. The light from head to toe would have been more even instead her face and hair are too bright. I think you used the system to it's strengths. BnW is a clear winner here.
Really close. Mike just gets it. It has an ethereal quality and the dusk colours are lovely. I think your framing is better though, the buildings in Mike's background are distracting and unattractive.
Lol you’re so cute. And I’d agree, for the record, if I were shooting with a heavy, professional camera. But with a lightweights for fun camera… I’m good with taking pictures with one hand holding a camera wrong, a drink in the other, while standing on one foot and keeping a smile
@@VanessaJoy Venessa i am sorry that you look at it this way but weather it is for fun or not. this does nothing for aspiring or up and coming photographers to see someone like you a respected photographer to hold a camera in that position it makes no difference be it long lens or a small lens. every instruction booklet that all camera manufacturers come with show's the correct way to hold the camera this is always good practice. There are to many people that are pros that do this. It is not clever or cool.for this to be shown on UA-cam. I don't mind anybody doing this .but should not be shown when making a video for UA-cam it gives the wrong impression. Years ago we did not have this choice we had to use the viewfinder this made you take more care on the composer that give you that edge to master the craft was this wrong No It is great that we have more advanced tech today but lets not forget the basic's we should not be lazy and take things for granted. always like your videos.
You gotta love gatekeepers, you must be really fun at parties. It’s a fun challenge with two highly respected professionals who cares how they hold the camera. Did they get a great image? Then that’s all that matters
That is an impossible choice! Love them both!!!
Great competition and great shots. I think Michael won this one... I did like your moody b+w shot. Thanks again
I think you both nailed it! Your description of Mike’s being a commissioned image, while yours as an art print captured what I liked about each of your images. Shame you could only choose one image each from your sets!
Love both, but I have to give Michael’s shot the edge. The colors are just so dreamy.
They are both great shots, but I do love a B
&W so I'll go with the Vanessa picture.
I don't think I can choose which one is better in this one. They both look fantastic. Great shoot you two.
You're both great photographers ... love both shots a lot
the black and white is great
Excellent, big points for both. So similar but oh so different. Extra points to Vanessa for adding the white border which really enhances the theme.
It was a tie. My personal preference is for B& W but his off center edit was great idea!
Can’t pick - both awesome
Vanessa is my choice. Love this one!
Love both but Definitely a fan of the black and white one 100 percent
Thanks!
Both images are amazing
My vote is the picture of Jennifer it was stunning!!
😂
Both pictures are great. No one is better then the other one. Both of you are great photographers!
I prefer your black and white one I didn't think I would because I liked the colour in the sky
Always feel guilty when I pick the other photographer's photo, but I prefer the fact that it's in colour (not color ;-) ) and that the model is facing the camera. But apart from that, yours was great. Hope the series returns - it's something I look forward to watching.
Love them both... and the M50MKii
You are both great photographers and both prints are fantastic, but I will go with Michael on this one.
Hooray for the M50! It made me fall in love with photography. So light you can walk with it for a few hours and take pictures of whatever you fancy without getting tired.
For portraits the 56mm by Sigma does magic if you got some distance to walk back, else the 32mm by Canon (both EF-M mount native).
Those are both beautiful! I did not know you could get such wonderful photos with that camera/lens combination 😊
It’s such a great little system
A tie is fine Love both
Love the pictures on the beach ⛱️ 😍 looks like you where having a fun time
I truly love this series you've put together! And this may be one of my favorites yet. I thought he was gonna hand it to you, too. But just goes to show, a decently capable camera, good editing and a creative vision can make truly stunning images. They are both absolutely gorgeous photos!!!
Nice work! I do however miss the days when the photographers used old gear that was like a week away from falling apart lol.
Both are great shots, but I’m drawn to Vanessa’s photo more. As described its more moody; Artistic and I’m loving the black and white.
Great shoot! I love my M50 and sometimes struggle deciding between the 5D iv or the smaller sibling when doing casual shoots.

Man I love this series! Cheers!
Thanks! This will be the last video for a while in the serious ☺️
Vanessa, for me you are the winner this time, I like your mood in B&W and the story behind the photo 😊
In a word, tied!
Both was good, but I love the black and white one….Vanessa by a hair….good job both of yall
This is a great series
Thanks 😊

That’s exactly what I love this camera for too!!

Awesome!! This be fun camera for blogging and portrait.
PERFECT for that
Wow it's was Good Using Canon M50 , Both the Picture have come great

Check the other videos in this serious. We absolutely cover some like that!
I like both for different reasons. I would pick the B&W...

Gotta go with Michael on this one. Although, i do agree, i wish it was a bit sharper. Maybe a shutter speed closer to 500 for my taste.
Two great images! I like yours a little better Vanessa.
I love both but I gotta give this one to Vanessa.
I'd love to see you do one of this with legendary Ken Rockwell, shot on jpg....make it happen please!
Great Video!!
Thanks!
Usually I am underwhelmed by digital B&W but yours had a great feel to it. I thought for sure with the great sky color that I was going to like Michael's better, but yours is just wonderful. You both did a wonderful job.
Aw thx ☺️
Love you both, but Mike kicked your ass on this one :)
I agree - and personally I think his first photo set was the best
Well in my head yours is better, better composition you nailed it with the diagonal from the buildings and ooh that sweet BW :)
Gotta love a good black
And white
Both great pictures, honestly ..... I will go with Michael's one just because for some reason I am not loving the way the buildings in the background look in Vanessa's BW, but, as I said, it's veeeery subjective 😊
Michael is a great shot but her expression is blank. When your Vanessa is amazing in B&W but you don't see her face. Its a tie!!!!!
Micheal demonstrates the courage o the bravest gladiator. His photos are excellent but no match for the queeeeeeeeen! #biased 😂😂
re last 2 photos ........looks like a set.....one's coming.....one's going
Plot twist: Jen gets behind the camera!
She’s so gorgeous but ALSO an incredible photog
I know it! You guys should have had her shoot. Future episode perhaps 🤔😉
I’ve had this camera for over a year and didn’t know there was machine gun mode. 😂
I think that you've shot better than this...the portrait headshot and the sun behind was really pretty...IMHO 🤣
Those little cameras are super capable. It's a bummer they're discontinuing the product line.
If that’s true that just means they became more affordable ☺️
Great photos! He really captured a moment. Surprised you don’t use motor drive more often. It has its uses.
P.S. this video went by so fast. You’re making it harder for me to watch videos that go on too long.
It definitely does! Haha - I like short and sweet ☺️
Vanessa how do we record video from canon 1000d ??
Not sure. Never used that one
Waiting for eos m6 mark ii to be use in this channel
Want to send me one? ☺️
I like yours Vanessa B&W best
Hi vanessa !
Pleas let me know that
Im selling my crop frame camera and going to buy a eos6D. Will it be good!
I’d go mirrorless personally
Has canon stopped you featuring photographers who don't use canon on this video series?
Nope. There are lots of non canon ones before and more coming ☺️
Personally, on Mike's photo I would have cropped out her feet up to her dress, just look a bit clunky and awkward.
the problem with that is you would lose the sand/beach part of the photo. If he had just shot a bit higher.
For that reason, my vote Vanessa wins.
when the photographer is hotter than the model hahahaha
aw thx - I'll assume you mean @michael anthony ;-)
I think he overdid the light on her upper body. The light from head to toe would have been more even instead her face and hair are too bright. I think you used the system to it's strengths.
BnW is a clear winner here.
Vennessa
Mike
Really close. Mike just gets it. It has an ethereal quality and the dusk colours are lovely. I think your framing is better though, the buildings in Mike's background are distracting and unattractive.
As soon as I see photographer's that can't hold a camera as they should I loose interest. Give them a cellphone
Lol you’re so cute. And I’d agree, for the record, if I were shooting with a heavy, professional camera. But with a lightweights for fun camera… I’m good with taking pictures with one hand holding a camera wrong, a drink in the other, while standing on one foot and keeping a smile

That's the style with younger people these days, no way around that... especially with being able to use the flip screen.
lol what?
You gotta love gatekeepers, you must be really fun at parties. It’s a fun challenge with two highly respected professionals who cares how they hold the camera. Did they get a great image? Then that’s all that matters
It's always the camera that I blame for the bad photos I get, LOL.
😂
