I bought it and have had it for a bit now. It's so nice that my wife (who is not into swords) let me hang it on the mantle when not in use. It's fun to train with. I've at least held it once every 2 days despite my hectic schedule. I can't believe that my first real sword is 1. Chinese. And 2. The white serpent. What a great time to be into swords

I bought a Magnificent Chu last year because of your reviews of LK Chen's swords. I almost wish I would have waited for this sword because that is BEAUTIFUL! When I first saw it on the website I was floored by everything about it. I prefer this over the Gale Wind and if I get the chance to get another sword this will definitely be the one.

Although . . . I got the Gale Wind and have been very happy with it, too. Great balance and not so expensive that I'm afraid to use it in cutting practice.

Any producer of stuff worth their salt will thank EDIT (a knowledgeable person) for pointing out flaws and where things can be improved.

My first LK Chen is on it's way. I almost bought another Hanwei, but since I haven't heard any bad reviews for LK, I thought I'd give him a try.

As you have both swords to hand which one would you recommend between the White Serpent and the Snow Peak? and a secondary question in terms of the blade steel options is there any advantages/disadvantages to the san mei blade against the other steels?

A comment on your surprise at the rounded hilt vs the appearance of the hexagonal hilt on the website. I think you're right, I've handled a hexagonal faceted antique jian before (in my friend's collection) and honestly it was one of the most comfortable hilts I've ever held. It appears from the pictures that the antique that they based it off was hexagonal, with crisper ridges on the ferrules than on the reproduction. I wonder why they made the change.

Aikidoka did a comparison between all Four LK Chen Jians.
    His ranking:
    1) Gale Wind for versatility and the way it handles
    2) Grand Marshal for the authority and smoothness in the cut
    3) White Serpent for lacking the authority of the Grand Marshal
    4) Snow Peak for being an in-betweener or a republic-era interpretation
It is interesting to see how your views may differ from his, coming from a Chinese Martial Art practitioner.

I have to admit, I find his rankings a little odd. I'm not saying he's wrong, just that what I've noticed so far doesn't exactly match his observations. Keep in mind that i don't have the Grand Marshal, so I don't really have anything to say about that one. But as far as the other three, I find that all of them handle pretty well, with the following differences:
      - The Gale Wind, while it has great handling and an authoritative cut, is a little uncomfortable for me to use, since the hand grip is rather narrow for my hands.
      - The Snow Peak has a good balance between point control and cutting power, but the hand grip, while a great size and thickness for me, may be too uncomfortable for people because of the rayskin covering on it. Some people may want to wrap it.
      - The White Serpent is also comfortable to use, and I find that it's handles better than the Gale Wind. The balance is similar, but since the handgrip is not as narrow, I can control it much more comfortably.

@@Swordsage Perhaps LK or someone can send you in a grand marshal for review purposes. That Jian has a longer handle than the other LK Chen Ming/Qing/Republic period Jian and more heft. The White Serpent is still by far the most aesthetically-pleasing LK Sword released so far and that includes the Ultra-edition Flying Phoenix.
On a sidenote, have you seen the recent LK releases? Heard great things about the Tang Zhanmadao and the Liao Twin Peaks Dao.

The amount of metal on the scabbard makes me wonder about heft and how scabbards can affect fighting. Even if it's not much heavier, the stiffness of many scabbards may still have influence. Have you ever trained while wearing a scabbard?

I'm just speculating, but I think it looks like it was made to be worn while riding a horse.

Bought it have it yes its heavy yes it can kill a man yes its pretty. I think the neatest thing about it though is that the entire thing is ringed in metal.
