As a preschool teacher, I can tell you that you are giving him the perfect amount of independence. The time your are working, he is having uninterrupted play which is good for him. I have kids in my room who you can tell had too much time with mom and dad- they are the kids who have a tough time with thinking on their own and with cause/effect. So trust me, you're doing great and so is he!

Elle, it is important for his little brain and development to have self directed play. You are a present, loving, compassionate mother. Even when you’re working, you’re attentive to his needs. He’s a lucky little boy who is flourishing. 💕

I understand your desire to actively be 100% engaged with your baby boy every moment he is awake. However, I think you are teaching him skills to entertain and occupy himself, which is HUGE! Instead of guilt, try patting yourself on the back for making wonderful and positive steps towards his development! Learning to be self sufficient in things, as small as playing with toys by himself, will only improve as he grows. There are so many wonderful and necessary activities that don’t require a bunch of people... reading a book, doing homework, practicing a musical instrument, etc. You are laying down a very beneficial foundation by letting him have some time for playing by himself. More bravos and less guilt! Woo Hoo, you!

I grew up with a working mom, who worked out of the house, and that has really motivated me and inspired me! I don’t remember thinking I wish my mom didn’t work! I hope this helps with the mom guilt!! I’m not a mom so this is my only perspective on the matter, a child of a working mom!

I appreciate you posting such an honest portrayal of what a day as a mom entails, be it working and/or stay at home. We are all trying to do the best we can and the mom guilt is real. Continue doing what you feel is right for your situation and family, and take so much pride in that! Your boys are so lucky to have you!

Mom guilt is real and it's ok to feel this way. James seems like a happy boy and you're doing an amazing job. It's important that he play by himself and not rely on parents to always hover and engage. Play is work for kids and he's learning tons on his own just by playing.

One thing that I love is that even if you are busy.. you don't just plop him in front of a screen. He's free to play with toys and use his imagination. You're doing great, Elle.

James seems to be a happy, thriving, secure, bright little boy. You also seem to be really tuned into him, very connected. He’s got active & involved family members and is very blessed to have you all. In this Pinterest era it’s even harder to feel like you are doing enough. Back in the day (I’m old enough to be your mom therefore very wise lol) parents just took care of their kids. They did their best. But believe me- nobody curated a childhood for their kiddos. I see so much pressure on moms today and it makes me sad. From where I’m sitting, you’re doing a great job. 💕

I was coming to the comments to say this! Maybe try the Curly Girl method for 3-6 months (I think one month isn’t enough from what I’ve read) because it’s so pretty

    • @SandraSaysStuff
      @SandraSaysStuff 4 роки тому

@@BrynneC Oh I know, but since Elle is already comfortable with her own routine (she's been blowing out her hair for years) I thought a one month goal might be less scary.

I hear your guilt. But you can look at this way- the time he spends away from you with his grandparents and his aunt are important for his development. He’s building relationships outside of you and Alex and that also builds confidence. It’s also important that you do the things you love because you have to nourish your spirit. When you feel good you’re able to give James your best self. And your work isn’t just a job perhaps it nourishes your creative side too! You’re doing great! Hang in there

It’d be cool to see you try the curly girl method for a month to see your curls in full effect.
Also it’d be fun if you did a cook-along with momma Fowler & some of her staple recipes from your childhood that you’d like to carry on in your family.

To anybody that complains about sponsorships. Ya’ll need to calm down. She’s a working mom supporting her family. This video wasnt JUST about the sponsorship she did so much and went on hee comfort zone and opened up so much and instead of encouraging her for all the video you scrutinize her for a 2 minute portion, which by the way every other youtuber does as well. Elle, keep doing you boo, you’re doing amazing and this video is so true to you!

Mom guilt is hard, but always remind yourself that you actually are doing what’s best for James. You’re providing a good life for him. When you’re feeling down look at the positives and be grateful. You are able to work from home and spend more time with him than most moms and that’s a blessing.

I know it’s hard to not feel guilty, but independent play and building relationships with his dad and extended family members is also so important, so try not to feel bad! Not to mention, it’s an amazing example for him to grow up seeing both his parents working hard to support the family. Plus, think of how many more amazing experiences he’ll get to have in his life as a result of you guys being more financially stable and supported! You’re doing great 💕

You're doing good Elle, don't be so hard on yourself! It's also good to have your own job/hobbies, not just be exclusively a mom. And it's good for a child to be able to entertain themselves, kids who cannot do anything alone will become very nasty when they're older. And also just relaxation/beauty time for yourself and 1 on 1 time with your husband is important. You do not spend (too) little time with James, you're doing fine! Many parents spend waaay less time with they're babies because they work away from home or because they have many children.

Sometimes I wonder if you dont consider a daycare because you don't want to deal with the backlash from your UA-cam followers.
Honestly, if you found a great daycare and did part time, your son would receive the best of both worlds. You could focus solely on your work while he is in care. Meanwhile, he is socializing with other adults AND children his age (soo important). Plus, the time you DO spend with him would be even more cherished and valuable. You would definitely not take a moment for granted! Just something to think about 🙃

Hey Elle! Longtime follower! My daughter is almost 2.5. When she was 1, I changed from full time stay at home mama to working outside the home. I can say that having her go to daycare 2 days a week has been the greatest thing. Ever. She gets to socialize, run around, get messy, learn lessons and I get to be fulfilled at work. When she comes home I can be 100 focused on her. For us it’s worked well but I’m not saying the transition was easy!!

I'm not a parent so I can't give that perspective at all, but growing up both of my parents worked full time for most of my childhood so I spent a lot of time in daycare and with my grandparents. Looking back, I think I became a very independent person because of this, and don't think this at all negatively impacted my childhood. Also, I always will admire my mom for being successful in her career and have prioritized education in my life so I can be like her. I also have this super close bond with my grandparents which I wouldn't trade for anything. I think whether or not you keep busy with your work or take more time off to be with James, he will know he has a loving mom and will grow up healthy and happy.

  • @Melinda_LL

Aw...you are such a good mom. You are doing an amazing job! Try not to focus on the negative and think about the positive. You don't have to leave him in the hands of strangers at a daycare. You have your family to help when you are working and even though you are busy, he is still with you. I'm sure he loves that. He will have memories of you always being with him at home and feeling safe. :)

I think that you said it so succinctly. No matter what our roles we take on, as moms, we guilt ourselves for not doing enough. I am a stay at home mom and constantly worry about the quality of life I am providing to my daughter, and how much better it could be if I also worked. But I also know I would feel that same guilt if I worked and didn’t stay home with her. It’s a vicious circle. I really think it’s about the quality you spend together, and the beautiful bond you are building with James. I know it won’t take away the guilt, but you are doing exactly what he needs. Thank you for sharing and voicing those doubts, you help normalize this feeling of inadequacy most moms suffer from and are helping to change that!

My nephew went to daycare once he turned 1. Just for a few hours! It was a really good quality daycare too! But he learned so quickly and made a lot of new friends that ended up coming to his 2nd bday party :). I know daycare it's not for everyone but you could get at least 3 hrs of work time and James can make some new buddies and get lots of attention. You do you lovely mama❤

You have an advantage that a lot of mother's don't have and that's working from home. If James is sick you have the ability to work at home and get some work done and yet be home with him and give him love and attention that he needs including getting him to take naps, eating his food, and getting him to take his medicine. Don't feel guilty, but I know that it's easier said than done. I remember when I was in school, I was in the 4th grade and my dad went back to school to be a real estate agent. That took up a lot of his time, but we both sat at the kitchen table and studied together and we helped each other with our homework. He helped me a lot with math and I helped him a lot with reading. There were a lot of words that my dad didn't understand and I would explain what they meant and what a sentence meant that he didn't understand. He was an older father. He was 33 when he got married and around 42 when I was born. He was 81 when he passed away.

You are such a good mom, and you really seem to make the most of every minute you have with James. It inspires and motivates me, because that’s something I struggle with with my kids. It always seems like there’s something I should be trying to get done around the house, when I should just slow down and give them the attention they need. The mess can wait.
I hope you find the best balance for your family with work and parenting. I just started working freelance again (only a few hours a week tops) and it’s made me feel “whole” again. It’s okay to love your job. That happiness and fulfillment will spill over into your parenting. Keep up the good work!

Cooking can be easy, but it can also be very intimidating. I grew up cooking, so it never felt scary. I could imagine not having that experience. It isn’t just about following the recipe, but learning flavor profiles and what we like to eat. Plus, creating a meal plan when you aren’t comfortable with cooking can be very daunting. I like the idea of HelloFresh because it helps to eliminate the food waste. Eventually, she will know what she likes to cook, what her family will eat, and know how to create a full meal plan that will utilize all the meat, dairy, and produce within the week so there isn’t waste. :)

You work from home so you need to be able to compartmentalize that time as much as you can. Honestly, I never felt mom guilt. I knew I had to provide for my children so I worked outside of the home for years until I started working from home. I was fortunate enough to have my mother and grandmother to help me with my 2 kids so they were never neglected. I spent time with my kids everyday day and after taking on part time work working from home (medical transcription), which entailed in all reality working 7 days a week, I sat aside one day on the weekend and gave my kids my undivided attention. As they got older it was a lot easier on all of us and they realized what I was doing was providing for them. I think it’s so important that we don’t get so wrapped up in our children that we forget about ourself. Play groups are a good way to let kids socialize and learn to be somewhat independent as well as provide socializing with other moms. Mom guilt is real, but just know that you are a great mother and I know you love your child and he loves you. Sometimes we have to take a breather away from them just to regroup and in doing so, you will appreciate the times you have with him and know it’s okay, he’s okay and you are okay. You’re doing great❤️

I think you might be labouring under a possible misconception - the assumption is that being the best parent is being with a child 24/7 as a constant carer, companioin and entertaiiner...and I'm not sure that's at all accurate. Not saying it isn't either... but something to maybe think about..IS that the best thing for all children?

Consider sending him to a nursery a few hours a day. Children benefit greatly from the social skills and educational structure.

As long as you have QUALITY time, it doesn’t matter the QUANTITY of it. And besides James is in an age where he’s very demanding of time in general with you guys. Give yourself a break.
However, if it is something unbearable, maybe moving the heaviest part of your work to the time he’s sleeping at night. Just as long as it doesn’t take away from your sleeping schedule.
It’s quite a huge struggle for a mother/father who’s a business how we, working and studying, or just working in general. You need to forgive yourself during those times of guilt.

Don’t feel guilty about working. Working makes me a better mom. I need that outlet. Also, in my experience having the kids around other people helps them be more social. If you can do a daycare one or two days a week that would free you up to work and he could socialize with other toddlers. He is so happy so you are doing great.

I'm certainly not qualified, but from my perspective, you are doing an amazing job of balancing your mom life with your work life. The fact that you have your priorities in front of you, be it family or work related, is a plus. There's no doubt you are going to succeed at achieving your desired goals. You know you're a pretty great woman, if you don't mind me saying. Mother, wife, business owner ... and great at all three. Inspirational I'd say.
Thank you for the video, Elle! I am loving your content! It's relaxing, it's fun, it's informative. What more could one ask 🤗 Take care!! 👍🤟💖

I know mom guilt is real and hard. But remember that it is great for your kid to see you working hard at a job that you love. That will inspire him to be a hard worker himself and go after a job he is equally as passionate about! You’re doing great love ❤️❤️❤️

I feel that mom guilt so much. I work full time, and my little guy is 2. I have back problems and fibromyalgia, so sometimes I really can’t be physically touched. I feel so guilty. Thank you for posting this. It makes me feel less alone.

Mom guilt is so real. I wish I could work from home as you do, just to get those few extra hours in with my girls. But, it seems like you are truly doing an awesome job. He is going to grow up seeing how hard his mom and dad both worked to give him such a great life. And remember the things you are teaching him that you don't physically see - like hard work, dedication, multi-tasking, and so much more. I find that often my mom guilt actually makes me feel more guilty and just makes everything worse. :) Keep your head up!

Have you considered keeping a stricter schedule and division between your work and kid time? I find that multitasking with work and kids makes me feel like I didn't do good on either front. I feel much better when I carve out time to fully focus on the task at hand (be it work or kids). I come away feeling more productive on both ends.

You shouldn’t feel guilty as its obvious you love him and are doing a great job, but I understand as society pressures are real. I don’t have kids, but I’ve seen others go through this. The key seems to be balance. Kids won’t care or remember details of whether you made dinner from scratch or you gave up all of your other interests to hang out with them all day.....they just remember tasty food and a good time :) Remember that kids really benefit from learning independence AND social skills AND family time. Do what feels right for your family as you are the best judge of that, but don’t forget there is not just one right way. Take care!

I love Hello Fresh. This past week I had two of your three meals, and that Crispy Parm Chicken is amazing! We also had the burgers, second time for each of those meals. For just my husband and me, it is perfect!!! We’ve been doing Hello Fresh for 6 months and have truly LOVED each and every meal.

Woaahhh your curly hair is gorgeous, Elle!
Also, you should check out the NARS tinted moisturizer if you haven't already. It has a really natural finish but the coverage is almost like a foundation. I have a bunch of acne scarring, and it actually does a good job of covering up most of it.

I feel you, Elle! I’m 32 with one 20 month old daughter. I feel so guilty that I work full time. Just like you I need my job to Contribute financially to the household in addition to my husband. But I also went to school for six years I have a graduate degree and got into a lot of debt to get an education and I’m finally debt-free but I can’t help but hesitate to think about quitting my profession all together when I know my daughter is going to start school with in a year and then I’ll be out of the loop. Especially with this what feels as an oncoming recession we need to think about the broader picture Which is providing for our children through our jobs. Let’s encourage each other to keep going. My mom was a working mom her whole life and there isn’t a single moment that I’ve ever resented her for that or that I felt like she missed out on a lot I actually don’t even remember my life before I started school LOL so I don’t even remember that she wasn’t with me during that time. You’re doing a good job as a mom

I was a stay at home mom for 9 months and I had to go back to college and I hated taking him to daycare but it’s okay! Cause we both need time apart and it’s okay to not just be a mom and to have things that are apart from your family!

You’re so lucky you can work from home and get so much time with your baby. My son is turning 2 in March and we get maybe 3 hours a day together at home interacting. And probably half that is dinner and getting ready for bed or ready for the day. 😢 I’m heartbroken going to work all week. 😭 The mom guilt is so real.
