    I really liked the vibe of this take and decided to use it for publication, but I totally missed a (quite important) bass note in there! Rather than edit the video I just left it as it is. Can you spot it?

      Impossible to find a missing bass note, if the whole song just sounds so beautiful! Did someone found it? Only at 2.51 the bass note sounds very muted, but it's not missing! Anyway, very nice cover Tim! Thank you

      The A at 0:48! Wonderful job on this one Tim. I find your playing always has a nice pace - calm, clean, and accurate. Looking forward to making some time to learn this one eventually.

    So awesome man 😍 i didn't play too much guitar during the last year, because i focussed on my bachelors degree, thus i didn't follow you for quite some time. Just stumbled across this video and was so happy to see you doing one of my favourite TE songs 😃😍 you inspired me to pick up my guitar again and give this one a try! 🤗 You're invredible! :D

      Sometimes I think you guys are trying to get me killed 😂 I'm currently pushing hard to get my website online. After that it's straight back to work, but I have the next 5 or 6 songs already planned out! We'll take at that cracker of a tune later on then 😜

    Very beautiful played Tim, I really like this song. I play this song already for some time and figured out how to play it by watching videos of Tommy playing it and videos of other youtubers (because you havn't had a tutorial then). So I'm curious whether the version I play is similar to the version you are going to teach in the Tutorial now😀I already found a difference how you play the last chords of the Intro when the picking pattern changes a bit. I remeber that I was strunggeling to find out from listening and from the videos how you were supposed to play it there.

    Hi, Tim! Amazing sound. He played wonderfully. I liked it very much. I listened with headphones. I also know how to play this Tommy song, but I looked at you and realized that there are inaccuracies in my performance. I will fix it))) You're good, you pick everything up so meticulously. Thank you!

      @@TimVanRoy Hi, Tim! You've probably noticed that Tommy doesn't kick the tempo in this song. He once said in an interview that some singers do not sing to the rhythm on purpose, but somewhere they stretch the motif or vocal line, this gives even more liveliness to the song. Do you think the song Duke refers to exactly such a performance, as if singing a song? I do not know if you understand what I am writing, because I often write in a conversational style, but I do not know how it turns out in English. And one more question that I would really like to get an answer to, because it bothers me because of my lack of experience playing guitar. In general, in many ways, such responses to comments helped me understand how to play Tommy's songs correctly, because I study from UA-cam, there are no such craftsmen in my city, I will probably be the first to teach these wonderful songs live. And so. I haven't been able to do some songs for a long time, like train in Dusseldorf, I understand that they are fast. But sometimes they turn out, and then you need to sharply reduce the tempo of the metronome and go back again, and this is upsetting, because you think that it turned out to play. So why back again? And am I thinking correctly? I think this way: there is a general speed and technique that will allow you to play even if you are woken up at night and you play; and there are techniques and skills that you have developed only in one particular song and this does not mean that once you were able to play a fast passage in this song, then everywhere whatever song you took you will play just as quickly and efficiently. So it turns out why we sometimes step back willy-nilly? Because the general technique attracts the one that is worked out in a particular song and, as it were, balances the overall level of guitar playing. That is, we forget as a couple and want too much from ourselves, but we will not jump above the general level of technology until we naturally come to this through work and time. I think correctly, why do I have such problems in the game, as if it is buggy and freezes, fingers jam?

    • @TimVanRoy
      @TimVanRoy  Рік тому +1

      @@RadSergey1987 I always use the same method, Sergei: I slow down songs drastically (even past 50% slower!) when learning them for the first time. Even now, after so many years, that is still my first step. Locking everything exactly in the fingers before even thinking about speeding things up. Tommy himself is always very clear that his level of technique completely depends on practice, nothing else. If he stops practising, he feels his level drop instantly as well.
      Letting the melody "sing" is something that only comes up when you get all the other aspects of the song down (chord shapes, techniques, tempo, etc...). Then start by playing the backing and bass parts softly and the melody at standard volume. Don't try to play everything loud and the melody EVEN louder, because that will cramp up your technique and your ability to play faster.
      Does that help?

    • @RadSergey1987
      @RadSergey1987 Рік тому

      @@TimVanRoy I understood, I will change the approach. Thank you very much! And about the Duke's song? You didn't answer the knock with your foot, please read that comment again from me.

    • @TimVanRoy
      @TimVanRoy  Рік тому +1

      @@RadSergey1987 Ah yes, sorry. This song is played with a free-time approach, meaning you don't really stick to a steady tempo. You slow down and speed even within certain bars. This technique is called rubato" in the classical world and often used in movie scores. That is why he is not tapping his foot!

    Hey Tim! These video's you make are little gems. The Duke by TE is literally my favorite piece on guitar so i'll be using this to learn it (and may try to add that missing bass note you mention)! ;)
    I'm also looking into a second quality acoustic guitar. Have you had any experience with Furch guitars? I also have been considering a martin om 28 but I never seemed to be the biggest Martin fan. But you're using one here, and it sounds great

    • @TimVanRoy
      @TimVanRoy  Рік тому

      I have two older Martin J-40s and I love them dearly, but they are a bit atypical for fingerstyle. These are early production models so they don't have all the mother of pearl inlays (and I prefer it without the inlays!).
      I do have experience with Furch guitars, but not (yet) with the acoustics: I bought a Furch crossover nylon string just a few weeks ago and I have to say I'm very impressed! I've owned crossovers from Taylor and Alhambra, and this instrument blows them all away. You'll be seeing a video soon where I'm trying out different string types on the guitar. I also have a friend in the US who traveled to a guitar store, tried all of the top tier guitars, and walked out with a Furch. So if you can, try them out!

    • @vyvynylification
      @vyvynylification Рік тому

      @@TimVanRoy Thanks for the reply! I bought a furch and after just one week bought another furch. Kind of overdid it a bit but I've been wanting a few guitars for a while now. My maton does all the performing live, the furchs allow me to have a nicer acoustic sound and one of them can be used in different tunings.
      Just like you I tried a furch nylon (GNc2) and really liked that. The GNc4 models are even more lovely. If I encounter a good deal used I may buy one myself in the future!

    • @TimVanRoy
      @TimVanRoy  Рік тому

      @@vyvynylification Seems like you are set now for the coming years! I've always seen Matons more as "live" guitars, with their excellent pickup system and feedback resistance. But when it comes to "unplugged" acoustic sounds I think the Furchs will probably perform better. I actually did find a good deal on a GNc4 and I'm loving it! Videos with the guitar featured will probably be posted in January.
