I love this clip it hits so close to my soul. I’ve been wrestling a lot with things. I’ve been really diving deep into Judaism and wanting to understand first century context, and I want to understand the foundations of Christianity but at the exact same time, I am frustrated with Christianity. I am so annoyed with the person on the street corner yelling at people telling them that they will go to hell I do not like that part. I draw more to Quakerism. What do you think about Quakerism the Christian version of Quakerism that is? How would you label this church as the pastor? Do you have a website? I really enjoy your teachings. I live out here in central Ohio.
Thanks for comment. I’m glad the clip resonated with you. The Quaker tradition brings some helpful focus to the Christian tradition. They believe everyone has access to God directly which they call an inner light. And they emphasize the direct teaching, and example of Jesus in kindness, simplicity, and generosity. They do also generally eschew most of the religious trappings of Christianity. Preferring lay lead gatherings over clergy. So while there’s some beautiful things in the tradition, there are also some differences from how we express ourselves at Commons. As to where we fit, labels are hard. But we come out of the evangelical tradition and so some of those trapping still remain even if our theology is more progressive. Maybe Post evangelical would work as a label.
