I'm not a lawyer and my research didn't cover repeal of social programs. My research suggests that if social security went away it wouldn't be pulled from those of us who have already paid in, it would stop being an option for new workers. Organizations like AARP lobby for the continuation of the program.
We should never had taken hand outs from a government that was never set up to be a welfare state, they created business and we unknowingly contracted into. Francis Everett Townsend (January 13, 1867 - September 1, 1960) was an American physician and political activist in California. In 1933, he devised an old-age pension scheme to help alleviate the Great Depression. Known as the "Townsend Plan", this proposal would pay every person over age 60 $200 per month, with the requirement it all be spent quickly. It was never enacted, but the popularity of the Plan influenced Congress to start the Social Security system, which involved much smaller amounts. The Plan was organized by real estate salesman Robert Clements, who made Townsend only a figurehead while the Plan expanded to thousands of clubs in many states. Townsend was born just outside Fairbury, Illinois, where he is memorialized by a post office named in his honor.
I don’t want to work until 70 as there are quite a few people who die in their 70s and I want to get a chance to retire and enjoy my life before falling apart. Not everyone has a 401k and depend on SS. I think it’s bs that the government keep the money we put in even if we never get a chance to collect it. We should be able to designate a beneficiary.
There is a survivor benefit; however, it is limited in scoop. I understand your concern about wanting to enjoy life before you're "too old." The idea of retirement is new. It doesn't really exist in much of the world, and certainly doesn't seem to enter into the minds of the rich and powerful in western culture. When I was on active duty I was constantly reminded of my mortality. It made me do a lot of the things that most Americans wait to do until they retire. I traveled Europe, Korea and Japan. I wasn't able to fly first class, stay in 5 star hotels, or eat out every meal, but I did do the things that mattered most to me. I walked the streets and parks, took in the sights and sounds, and just enjoyed the time and company of the people I was with. I hope you're able to do what matters most to you before your retire.
@@historyisfun344Retirement is not new and many other democratic countries have a much better retirement system than us. Recommend you read Teresa Ghilarducci’s excellent book, “Work Retire Repeat.” She advocates a universal pension system.

How change some of the laws on social security about the amount of money you can have in the bank . I cost of living is hight .How about changing the laws about how many years you have to be marry to your spouse to get their social security in your sixty's. How about if you have a child by someone and you don't marry that person you still get their social security when you get in your sixty's.
To keep is going by the time I retire I need to lower my cost of living by some unspecified amount and raise my retirement age to 76 at best 80 at worst?
Your frustration is palpable. Don't give up. You have a vote. If you aren't registered, register now. If you've registered but can't get out in person, apply for an absentee ballot. If you have free time, turn your frustration into action, and volunteer for a political campaign or cause. Even a few hours of collecting signatures outside a grocery store to get a minimum wage increase initiative on your state's next ballot is helpful. It can make a big difference in the lives of the people in your state. A critical part of the New Deal was the establishment of a federal minimum wage: intended to be a living wage. A living wage would allow people to live in the moment out of poverty and save/invest for retirement. In the best circumstances, Americans would also have a pension as the labour movement continued to make gains for workers. Ideally, a person would have three sources of income in retirement: pension, personal savings/investments, and social security. Sadly, organizations like the National Restaurant Association and Chamber of Commerce have successfully lobbied lawmakers to suppress the minimum wage. Recent reporting suggests that even now, giant companies like Starbucks have engaged in illegal anti-union tactics to hamstring unionization and the labour movement. Additionally, the court decided companies have a legal obligation to generate profits year over year for their investors. Here in Ohio, the state's constitution makes paying tipped employees half the state minimum wage lawful. But, unfortunately, that same constitution has the minimum wage at $10.10hr. Progressives are collecting signatures to allow the state population to vote on a constitutional amendment in November, increasing the minimum wage to $15hr. and grow with inflation. The hope is the single amendment will also help tipped workers. Ohio state lawmakers are already working to change the law to increase the percentage of votes required to amend the state's constitution. It's a fight. But history shows we've won it before, and I believe we can and will win it again.
so the us population never thought about a thing called retirement? The government saw the darkness that the population would come to and decided they needed the children to pay.
We are polarized today for a presidential candidate to attain supermajorities in both houses, majorities you would need to implement a new deal type legislation. With the Democrats wanting to expand SS and the Republicans content on letting it die, I don’t see a consensus measure regarding funding coming anytime soon. Good video though.
Note which Pres and party started taxing SS! They also helped to decrease the pension program. Ask yourself who did these actions help? And who is advocating working longer, cutting SS, and raising the retirement age today? Stop voting against your interests people!! 🤦🏾♂️
Raising the retirement age isnt a solution, it only kicks the can further down the road as you yourself pointed out. The issue we have is the same one that caused the fund to dry up, it's greed and incompetence. The little wealth we have is continuously being funneled away from us and disappeared. People entering retirement age in a decade or two likely wont be able to survive on it. I realize the idea of retiring is new and its not global but that doesnt change the fact that we're being lied to and stolen from. Doing more of the same thing wont suddenly bring us prosperity.
They raised the age hoping and betting. That the human being would die before hitting the benefits age to collect. Dirty evil and greedy selfish devil rejects they are.

If they ever did away with SSN I would hope that we as Americans would sue the government for all the money they took from us.

Maybe children who got adopt it so their name got change could get their parent SSN
Do not depend on SS to retire. Cultivate being free.
