2024- I have 12 years that I sing this to my children. When I die I want this song to be played on repeat at my funeral 🥹❤️🙏🏻
Everytime i watch this, my eyes fill with tears.
Especially when Jordi Savali's face appears when his deceased wife is singing.
Love will overcome borders, religion and politics.
Peace to all
Sublime...
It so nice to hear that song of İstanbul from Jordi Savall... Thanks for sharing... Greetings from İstanbul...
I´m glad you liked it! Greetings back to you from Denmark

Estupendo. Enhorabuea a vosotros ! Lutje Huylebroeck Belgica

the strength Jordi Savall exhibits here is admirable - that has got to be so v. difficult to sit and listen to Montserrat singing and somehow summon the strength and courage to play - for those not familiar with the exceptional French film Tous Les Matins du Monde for which Jordi Savall played on the soundtrack - the elder reclusive cellist in the film also lost his wife when she was young and he bore that burden throughout his life raising his two daughters alone - the parallels cannot be lost on anyone - even on Jordi himself he must surely now recognize himself in that film though it is not film it is his reality - life can be so v. difficult at such times that it is near unbearable - I am not sure I could have done this - it would have far too painful to bear to hear her voice - this too has parallels in the film since the elder cellist sees these apparitions of his wife visiting him while he is playing alone at night in his isolated cabin such is the depth of his grief for her - her death at such an age was so tragic - I am almost certain Jordi would have taken some solace from the film and the manner in which the elder cellist dealt with his grief for his deceased wife ...
The face of Savall when he remembers his recently deceased wife sing as the record plays says it all...
it always brings a tear to my eye and my soul.
true, very emotional
instaBlaster...
are you ok
Oh but grief is a selfish thing.
The soul lives on death is rebirth and it selfish to be sad.
I am the resurrection
I am the life
I am the light of God
Peace and love
My mother taught me this song ,to a child in Colombo. Truly international melody
The first time I heard this lovely music I was in Istanbul, visiting a primary school. Children performed this fascinating song, which title I couldn't grasp, in a pretty pantomime. Its melody remained stuck in my mind snd years later, by chance, I watched this video and it was love again.
excellent. Reminds my childhood when my mother and 'nene' (grandmother) with origin from Smyrna now days Izmir, used to sing this fabulous catchy tune.
Do you call nene to grandmother? We say nene too 🥺
Ahh Jordi Saval Senin gozune Kurban olurum. Her Kulture , Herkese Sevgi Dolusun.
Her dilde yorum dehşetengiz , canım istanbul - canım üsküdar...
Yorumlayanların emeğine & yüreğine sağlık... Teşekkürler.
I have always had great admiration of Jorge Savall more so now since his recordings of Beethoven Symphonies . This song brought me to tears as my dear father one of the few Greek Jews of Spanish who survived the Holocaust would sing this us on the Sabbath .

Deeply moving...knowing that Montserrat Figueres passed away...The voice of an angel...ethereal...Blessings to Jordi Savall & his musicians! Thank you for this gift, sharing it!
Wow, I'm so happy! I just found out about renaissance spanish music, and then about the fantastic works of Jordi Savall. Fantastic Ottoman music shown to the greats.
This music is Arabo Andalousian at the base , this is why "renaissance spanish" = inquisition as you call ,
inspired from it
@@kalerman what tf are you even talking about???
@@kalerman it's Ottoman song, not Arab 🤦🏼
Excuse me , but this is a very old tradicional greek song. Even here, they sing some parts in it’s original greek words. Nothing ottoman about it!
MUSIC- THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF LOVE!!!
This music and raki is therapy

USKUDARA, a beautiful sephardic song, heard it at home since I was a child.
Its a Turkish-Ottoman song, not Sephardic
This is song make you Happy
Keşke dünya gerçekten bu kadar güzel olsaydı...
More than with anyone else, Savall's performances feel like a gift to the world.
Onbegrijpelijk!
excellent !!! from Greece
each seconds of this masterpiece makes me feel kind of eternal. Great medley of instruments, voices, languages.
Thanks for sharing this İstanbul song of Ottoman Turks :)

Stunning! A beautiful surprise, barely remembered from childhood, found almost by accident. Many thanks.
Ne güzelsin be.
very good song. Im from Malaysia..
MAGNIFIQUE !
à écouter absolument. Pour espérer aussi...
Muhteşem gerçekten. Şarkı, müzik, yorumlar..
I have liked this before the wailing of the soul from ancient times crying to God

This sing is The most beautiful "Üsküdar" sing I have ever listened.
Why in a church? The acoustics are superb. Long ago when the biggest building in a village was the church, city hall, performances like this, and public meetings would be held at the church.
the most beautiful og profoundly uplifting musical event I have ever vwitnessed.
The female voice was that of Monserret Figueras, recently departed and deeply missed....
J'aime beaucoup
Thank you so much for sharıng such a great vıdeo like this :) Loves& Greetings from TURKEY ! :)
Thank you for sharing this amazing recording! By far, the most important work Jordi Savall has achieved is showcasing how music travelled, how people from everywhere felt the same, how they were together, nations and languages and cultures.

Can't stop listening. You are amazing. Thank you for this!
Greetings from Brazil
I have played it for probably a thousand times. This song has such a nice history! We have a version in Bengali written by famous poet Kazi Najrul Islam. He was a soldier in the first world war, and my guess is that is when he came across this tune. The tune is so unique, it blends to the local culture everywhere it went. When I listen to this clip, I usually forget that we live in a mess both in space and time. Thanks Nick Rasmussen for uploading this and for the information on artists.
He was sent to the Ottoman war by the British government during the British regime in India...Nazrul Researchers speculate it was during this time that he came across this tune.
It's an Arabic song.

Great, great music...

thank you Nick for sharing with us
Jordi Savall is a great master!! Bravo Master!!
Enchanting .
If you know early music, the person who asked where was the woman, that is a "counter tenor" singing. A man with a bass voice can use his high register to sing in an alto range. This was very common in renaissance times when women were not allowed to perform. I agree, Jordi looks very sad, probably memories of his wife singing this.
