2000 Toyota Camry 100 AMP Main Buss Fuse Replacement

  • This video goes over a simple way to gain access to the 10mm and 8mm bolts that are holding the 100 AMP Main Bussbar Fuse in place. Removal of the airbox is not needed, as you can release the fuse holders with the plastic tabs.
    Note: You need to know WHY this fuse blew, you could have a short or malfunctioning component. Do NOT replace this unless you know why it blew. In my case, I was an idiot and replaced the alternator without disconnecting the battery, and shorted out the positive cable that goes to the alternator against the body... BOOM!

    Great video! After I exclaimed my joy in replacing this crazy difficult fuse my wife said "Are you going to make a video?" since I sometimes do (to share the joy with the youtubesphere). I replied, "no need, this (trenamy) video is already there!" Thank you for enriching the lives of the DIY auto repair community!

    Thank you so much for this video!! Changed out alternator without disconnecting battery. I let the main lead to alternator touch heat shield and it arced out pretty good before I grabbed it. I would assume this is what blew my 100amp fuse. I was yanking and pulling like crazy until I gave up and watched your video. To my surprise, there’s bolts holding the prongs in!??? Ha! Got it out as you showed and swapped fuses. All good now. I had battery light on dash and no Tach as symptoms. Everything fixed with new fuse. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and post on you tube!!

    Ingenious! I knew from looking at this fuse box because of the placement of the tabs - there had to be a way to pop it up for access to the screws... now I know there is.

    Can you tell by looks if the 100 AMP Main Buss Fuse is blown? And what does it look like if blown?

    • @treynamy

      I don't have a picture, but, it should be fairly obvious by looking at the top. If you google and look at images there are examples.

    what happens if you accidentally had the 8mm wire cut off when removing the bolt? can it be fixed

      @treynamy  8 місяців тому +1

      It can always be fixed! Might need a mechanic for that.

    • @treynamy

      Check voltage at battery while off. Then while running. Will probably have to have it tested.

    Great video, my fuse went out last night so now I know how to replace it, do you know if this happens because the alternator is going bad?

    • @treynamy
      @treynamy  11 місяців тому

      Mine blew because I didn't disconnect the battery when replacing the alternator. For you, I don't know, but, they blow when there's a sudden surge > 100A.

    Is this the one that controls turn signals taillights radio seats dash etc? Headlight and dome light work but not nothing else electrical does.

    • @treynamy
      @treynamy  Рік тому

      This is the MAIN 100AMP fuse. The output of the alternator goes to it, then to the rest of the car.

      You can see the metal strip internally is broken.
