He is absolutely right that the quality of manpower has degraded in the armed forces. One of the reasons can be political also in this, I am not so sure but it can be one of the factors resulting in degradation. The rules earlier were equal for everyone but now if you have sources in the top management you can get away with anything( a close experience that’s why I am writing it). Which leads to degradation and a few bad fishes spoil the whole pond. I know this may sound a bit cryptic but if you know you know.
At the very least, this gentleman SF Vet is unaware of the details of Agniveer scheme. It doesn't replace all existing Agniveers with the new lot. After 4 years, a select few who qualify as the cream of the lot will progress into the front line infantry ranks. So he got it all wrong, thanks to the Media showing half the information. I come from a military family and I know the current problems in the defence forces.

Very valid points raised by him. Soldiers thrive on camaraderie, agnipath might endanger that. But the other side to the problem is that a very large percentage of the defence budget was going towards pensions. That same money could be better used to provide better weapons and facilities for the soldiers who are serving in the army. Ranveer should have asked his veiwpoint about how to balance both these things. The officer could have given some very insightful solutions regarding this.

The best part would have been to make a open survey where problems and their solutions would have been asked from the soldiers itself with a referendum. The question should be how to make army better and not about how to reduce the financial issues. Yes proper finance allocations in Army are required but Nations needs a better army first than, we could still cope with the financial crises but we cannot cope with a faulty plan that can affect army in a negative way. As far as I understand the Agni Program, 10 to 30% of the Recruits would be in absorbed in the Defense(in USA, spelt Defense, in UK, spelt,Defence....lol) Forces and rest of them will be integrated in Civil and or other Internal Defenses like Law Enforcement, etc, based on skill, talent and aptitude. Besides they are getting free education and Bachelors Degree, for people who cant afford, plus providing Physically/Mentally trained man/women power. So mostly upside. I think you need to lool the policy again you are misinformed. They will induct upto 25 percent the number could be below that. Second induction in other organizations is not made officially plus there is no age relaxation. Only 10 percent quota is given in capf exam thats it. So stop nonsense.

I see his point and it's completely valid. But the truth is that the wars of the future will be faught with technology, not manpower or the men's will power. We desperately need to modernise our equipment. You can't see in the night no matter how much will power you have and night sights are crazy expensive. This is just a small example. If you want to be a super power, you need to take calculated risks. Quality of new comers is degrading purely because standards of living have improved. Not many people can go through the hardships of being a soldier after living in relative comfort.

Remember, British defeated Indian kings with fey few soldiers, but they used high quality equipment. Indians had guns too, but they were not standardised. Whereas British had factory made standardised equipment. and you know how it turned out. besides, sending less men to combat simply ensures there will be less casualties. technology is disposable, people are not. I am concerned about the competition within cadets which is toxic mindset and the constantly evolving platoons which will cause truest issues. but the need of the hour is to get high quality equipment. Arre basic kevlar helmet and armour bhi bohot rare hai Indian army mai. ab main rifle bhi change karna hai asap (this is just the bare minimum). then there are things like night vision sights and communication devises which chinks have plenty of. forget night vision, most of our troops use iron sights, red dot sights or any equvilent of that is alre required (both there are super, super expensive. ovten costing more than the gun itself) russians currently are fighting like indian army. using iron sights and little to no communication. thats why they stop their offensive during night. and are taking easily avoidable casualities. these tactics might not be a problem fighting a third world country like pakistan. but china is different.

@@mikeadams.9853 & don't u think, Agniveer scheme need the following amendments: 1) Instead of 4 years, Tenure should be of 8 or 10 years atleast. 2) If saving money is the need of the hour, then..let NPS scheme be implemented for all the armed forces entries 3) 75% of those getting demobilised from the Army....Give them guranteed absorption into Police/CAPF. This way, we can better address the situation of the budget deficiency without degrading the Army + We will have much better state Police. A win-win situation!

We desperately need to modernise our equipment. You can't see in the night no matter how much will power you have and night sights are crazy expensive. This is just a small example. If you want to be a super power, you need to take calculated risks.
Quality of new comers is degrading purely because standards of living have improved. Not many people can go through the hardships of being a soldier after living in relative comfort.

Remember, British defeated Indian kings with fey few soldiers, but they used high quality equipment. Indians had guns too, but they were not standardised. Whereas British had factory made standardised equipment. and you know how it turned out.
besides, sending less men to combat simply ensures there will be less casualties. technology is disposable, people are not.
I am concerned about the competition within cadets which is toxic mindset and the constantly evolving platoons which will cause truest issues.
but the need of the hour is to get high quality equipment. Arre basic kevlar helmet and armour bhi bohot rare hai Indian army mai. ab main rifle bhi change karna hai asap (this is just the bare minimum). then there are things like night vision sights and communication devises which chinks have plenty of. forget night vision, most of our troops use iron sights, red dot sights or any equvilent of that is alre required (both there are super, super expensive. ovten costing more than the gun itself)
russians currently are fighting like indian army. using iron sights and little to no communication. thats why they stop their offensive during night. and are taking easily avoidable casualities.
these tactics might not be a problem fighting a third world country like pakistan. but china is different.

Go and check the reasons behind Russians defeat and withdrawal of forces just because there is only one reason lack of manpower.
Russia has no issues like of equipment and technology they are infact only behind US in terms of that they even export thoroughout the whole world. Even our indian military hardware is full of Russian export.
And now look again behind the problems Russians faced in Ukraine war.

What he means & I have seen this with my friends a lot of Rajput Brave friends could not into the army, who are from a traditional warrior Clan what changed was the Entrance exams which looked at Maths & other Subjects rather that Tradition & Bravery & a sense of Honour.

Corruption is also a Harsh reality of our Army. There won’t be a need of Agniveer scheme if you curb the corruption there.

& don't u think, Agniveer scheme need the following amendments:
1) Instead of 4 years, Tenure should be of 8 or 10 years atleast.
2) If saving money is the need of the hour, then..let NPS scheme be implemented for all the armed forces entries
3) 75% of those getting demobilised from the Army....Give them guranteed absorption into Police/CAPF.
This way, we can better address the situation of the budget deficiency without degrading the Army + We will have much better state Police. A win-win situation!

Sir is from SF which is in combat but most army guys casualties are in though terrain security gaurding posts like siachin, north east, Sikkim, whole Himalayan ranges so young blood is needed to lower this casualties, also fauj log naukri ke liye bhi kartey hai ye fact hai aaj se nahi British time se warna Jaliawala mai order deney wala he sirf British tha aur naukri perform karney ke liye goli Indian sainik ne he Indians pe chalai thi, and agniveer is taking 25 percent post four years and rest are to inject a sense of discipline, commitments in youth who will work in government system so as we can improve the hopeless goverment departments, if this idea would not have worked then Israel or many others countries would have stopped it. And do know only SF has all gear n weapons to fight rest r equipped with 40 yrs old insas, air force with 60 yrs old aircrafts. Country runs from a broader prospect not a single window thought. correct me if i am wrong but those who would be recruited through agnipath scheme will not used for combat. gov has not removed NDA exmas. it still exist. they will not be included in combat with just 4 years of training.
