The Nagasaki Foreign Settlement

In 1990, Nagasaki City designated the Higashiyamate and Minamiyamate districts as Preservation Districts for Group of Historic Buildings due to the fact that their appearance from the era of the foreign settlement had been mostly retained. Since then, the city has been making efforts to maintain and preserve the historic buildings in the area, as well as convert them into public property and make them open to the public. In 1991, they were selected as National Important Preservation Districts for Group of Historic Buildings.
