- David Lee Roth performing "Ladies' Nite in Buffalo?" on September 9th, 1986 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette and Brett Tuggle are the musicians.
young stevie vai is literally an alien in looks and action. it's phenomenal
Siempre sentí y pensé lo mismo. De otro planeta....
Steve Vai really was phenomenal with Dave Lee Roth...
to keep me satisfied
Uli Roth more tasteful.
Steve Vai is just phenomenal period..
That is half-true! Steve Vai was amazing on Eat 'Em And Smile. Every musician on that album wrote and played like they had something to prove, and they stretched themselves and their music to exciting new limits. Producer Ted Templeman still held the reins, and encouraged them to push the envelope without burning down the Post Office. But Roth made a huge mistake when he let Steve Vai co-produce their second album together, "Skyscraper." It sold good enough to pop audiences, but the unbridled, "soft-n-weird" Vai style alienated the diehard Van Halen fans who felt their loyalty to Roth had been abused. Thanks to this unsuccessful experiment on the "Skyscraper" album, David Lee Roth went from filling stadiums full of headbanging metal fans to bombing in Las Vegas as a lounge act a few years later.
@@widehotep9257 I agree, "Eat Em" was the best and Steve did make the next album a loser. Although he did do some really nice guitar playing on there, "Just Like Paradise" with a drum machine just didn't cut it. I saw them on that tour aswell, when Poison opened up, but it didn't do anything for me, no energy whatsoever. I lost interest after that. Steve is always about futuristic effects and overdubs. I don't agree with you saying that I'm "half true", I would say that I'm "equally as true" in bringing up points that you didn't. Thank you
If Dave owns the rights and there's a soundboard recording of any night from this tour, it needs to be mastered and released
Steve Vai showing that he was not just the average guitar slinger ..back in the 80's ....and boy was more to come.
Rich F This is vais best song.
Vai got his start in '78 with Frank Zappa... and he was credited with playing "humanly impossible to play guitar parts"
Rich F
But the song sucks terribly

@@JerryRiceBall How can you say that when Passion and Warfare had not been released yet?
❤Happy Birthday Steve VAI, what a team during this time,❤
One of the greatest 80s album. Please God allow me to discover time travel! The 80s was such a wonderful time for music.
HA ! I always say the same thing asking God to please send me back to the 80's. 🤘🤘
The 80's were the best! Wish I could go back too.
Me too the 80’s were awesome!!! Nothing could kill us, no diseases, no drugs, best music, best movies!
Save a seat for me mate ,!
Yes they were. I was in my early to mid twenties then and it still evokes powerful memories!
Roth sounds amazing here. And he sing all the lines here too, back with VH he literally sang every third line live. Vai is unstoppable in a full band context best he ever sounded.
Roth sounds phenomenal here. He was a good singer I just think he used to get so wasted and forget the lyrics because all they did was party back in the day. He can stay in tune and sing just like the records if he wanted to
These guys were from another Planet all together.
2 completely different backgrounds.
Vai - schooled at Berkeley college of Music in Boston
Sheehan - 1000 hrs of playing every bar and dive you can think of along the East Coast.
"2 great tastes that taste great together"
@@wayne6777
Who Vai and Sheehan?
These guys should reunite with Roth to tour again.
Roth is the one holding it up.
I know you seriadobr , you right . it makes perfect sense under the current circumstances. So why dont they ? Shats the f**king holdup ?
Totally
@@trrrythomas1834 Even better circumstances now that eddie's dead
It would be an embarrassment, Roth can't sing or perform like that anymore. He trips over his own mat on the stage floor, he sings like Grover from Sesame Street, how can this go over well ?
I saw them right after this show!!!! Every guitar player who was anybody in our town took the night off to see this show!!!!!! Great show, never forget it!!!!!!!!!!
I was the 1986 Toronto show at Maple Leaf Gardens, I’m almost 49 now and I still tell everyone that it was the best concert of my life. He even had the “Green Meanie” out that night, Steve’s Charvel Frankenstrat. That band was “the best” in rock history to me. I remember taking the bus home and feeling fully satisfied, pumped. When people left the Gardens, we were walking across Young Street, between cars, people screaming and cheering. Some were walking over hoods of cars. The opening band “Cinderella “ was on their debut album tour and maaan, those fuckers rocked. We had like 4 hours of balls to the walls Rock n Roll. I still have my stub and I will always boast about it, well, it’s not really boasting, its actually telling the truth. May the 1986 “Eat Em & Smile” band live forever, they deserve it. Cheers P.S. I am a classic VH fan and always will be but Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette, and DLR were AWESOME !!! I HOPE THEY RELEASEA VIDEO IN HD.
I feel you sentiment here. I was two years too late in my music discovery. And even then missed out on the Skyscraper tour. Everyone has their moments in music history and once in a lifetime gigs. These guys, this tour would be where I’d go in my time machine. I saw Dave twice on subsequent tours ALAI and YDLM. I’ll never forget those two twilight shows and yearn for 1986. Peace and gratitude to these five amazing guys
I thought surely Dave had some killer quality videos of the tour. I thought for sure he would after the VH brothers always failed to give us primo videos of The Mighty Van Halen.
Sounds like an awesome memory man!
Saw that your as well. I remember counting the speaker cabinets hanging from the ceiling- lost count around 75
I would def go back to '86 if I could.
Probably the greatest guitar solo ever.
Agreed!!
Agree, Awesome phrasing and vibe!
Amen
I thought VH "Hear About it Later" had a really special and noteworthy guitar solo as well.
This solo hands down is one of the greatest of all time!!💥💥💥
I saw Diamond Dave live with Kiss in Wichita Ks what a show that was. When Dave played Just Like Paradise I about jumped out of my seat.... no kidding it was great!!!
David voice so good!💯
LOVE DLR!!!!!!
The audio was actually pretty good. This was a monster band
This is David Lee Roth s' Best when he put this Band together 💟 absolutely Spectacular and Terrific 👍💯🏆
Saw Billy Sheehan with Talas about 10x and David Lee Roth band 4x. This was one of the most sensational rock groups ever. Never a down moment. Packed with talent. Four true unhinged virtuosos all on one stage. Vai's playing at this moment in time was physically, visually, emotionally, spiritually soul shattering live.
+Dylan A. Kent,
Steve blew Edward away....
Plain and simple he destroyed him....
No chance in hell he could do these licks here.
Vai'not so bad now...
Dylan A. Kent yes, that’s what I wanted to say! 🙌😜
@@MrPyroguru correct Eddie Van Halen cannot play those looks because his fingers are not as long as Steve Vai
Great solos by Billy and Vai....
Oh man I love this song. love this vibe and Steve's guitar. pretty much avant-garde hard rock song.
Well never see this again
you can replay it here, then you'll see it again
Guitar and Bass Fireworks that rocked the 80's. DLR really put together some band.
The best of the best. Never seen again. Shame.
Steve vai & Billy sheehan is wow!
I still love David Lee Roth, the ultimate showman!!
@David Lee Roth where is here? Which site? I so enjoy your performances if this is ‘marreally you responding! May the good judgment be sealed! G’mar hatimah tovah. I’m not religious, but it is almost Yom Kippur.
@David Lee Roth and athleticism!!! Dude, you’re still amazing!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
@David Lee Roth DLR, you are the best, I never like Sam.
That is I never liked Sam. I am not a typist!
@David Lee Roth okay, and how do I do that, David Lee?
DLR needs to tour again with this amazing musicians
Boy, Dave sure did put himself one hell of a band together. Van Wholen? Just kidding, I love VH, but man this lineup was insane.
100%. It's great that he left Van Halen purely on that basis - two great bands for the price of one!
Totally. Steve Val had huge shoes to fill......and he filled em.
Couldn't agree more!!!
Mr. David Lee Roth... what an entertainer... I missed many of your concerts.. bummer I am blessed to hear you now. All the best Diamond Dave. Kurt David Rohlman
one of my favorite solos in music. dude goes from zappa to dave, too cool.
Don’t forget Alcatraz.
And Whitesnake.
NOW THAT'S "ROCK 'N' ROLL!!" GIVE IT UP FOR "STEVE VAI" and "BILLY SHEEHAN!!"
tremendous talent w those 2
What a band!!!!!
No comparison between DLR band and VH during 1986-87. Vai especially was just a whole new level.
Thanks,
Great peace of music hystory… Vai at his best….
This just proves Dave was a good singer live . It was his decision to get drunk , run around and forget lyrics.
That's the Truth. Dave could do this way more times than not. It's his choice to fuck it up.
That was his schtick back then
Probably the best hard rock band
Found this LP for $4 last weekend, this song kicks ass. I thought the video would have terrible sound but that was really good. I'd give anything to go to a show like that right now
I was at the Atlanta show on this tour. Amazing show.
What an incredible band....DLR at the top of his game too
FANTASTIC album and tour, at the Forum in L.A Dave came out over the crowd on surfboard
If only i had a time machine to go back and see this concert again. I did not appreciate as much then but i do now.
I saw this show in Dallas, amazing night from a phenomenal band of musicians. Dave was on fire, sang all of the lyrics, and gave Vai,Sheehan&Bisonette time to shine in several segments and solo pieces.
Saw this tour in New York. One of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. Dave was at the top of his game and this band was absolutely bulletproof.
the vai solo is really good!!
WOW!!!! Thank you for posting this !!!! Didn't get to see this concert. Have the album. LOVE this song. Buffalo girl born and raised.
That's what happens when the best front man plays in front of virtuoso level performers.
Wow that is the very first time I've ever heard Dave actually try to sing something live that is remotely close to the studio track.
It was his very first solo tour and was out to prove that he can do without VH. The sad part about it was when he was in VH he'd get so spectacularly hammered it would be his fault if anyone thought they sucked. I happened to see both shows, the 1984 Tour and Eat 'Em & Smile Tour, he was drunk as fuck with VH and sang off-key, often forgot the words, and pretty much didn't give a shit. but on his own he looked completely sober and in control and sang every lyric perfectly. that fucker.
I've a pattern with DLR live. He'll try to sing the newer songs on that tour closer to studio than the older ones
Who goes to a show to hear studio tracks? DLR creates on the fly. Thats why I love watching him!
Went to the Montreal show on the tour, I remember the band being showcased by Dave that night. Absolutely amazing . Got goosebumps watching this show.
Bad ass! Great performance!
steve vai is soooo much better in a band format. Great chords, kick ass solo's!
Dudelike Guy agreed ! The Roth Albums and the Whitesnake Slip of the tongue is my favorite from him
Like Mick Taylor.
@@prsfanatic74 Same here.
yeah man he really needs an editor and a bit of structure
I agree 100%. He writes great riffs when he’s in a band setting but his solo stuff is just endless wanking but it’s rarely rooted in a great repeating riff.
Good gravy...he had Green Meanie SCREAMINGGG!!!
One of my favorite songs.
This song has got a Great vibe
This was a great show,I was at Roberts Stadium Evansville Indiana, when I saw the eat em and smile your...
They knew how to rock so well.
For my money, DLR sounds great. It’s a VHS tape to boot. Properly recorded, this would have been a great live recording. Suck it Eddie Trunk.
Who even is Eddie Trunk
Dave sounds exactly like the album here. Dave CAN do it when he Wants to do it. I just wish he wanted to more of the time.
@Fryx Ur You nailed it. He is Constantly dogging Dave.
@The History Of Dog And Balls yeah and the mogodon never has a good word to say bout dave.......idiot!
What an amazing performance
Vai in the DLR era is my favorite Vai -- guitar wizardry plus slinky stage moves!
OMG! That solo!!
DLR remembered/recited all the words in time as on the record. He rarely did that with VH. This band was/is special.
i thought the same thing
your abso right.... saw them in 86 and 88 and Dave was "on Fire" for real. best front man i've ever seen and i've seen a few.
DLR took his solo career much more seriously. It definitely showed. Top notch band to back him up as well.
That’s the best dual solo I’ve ever seen Billy play on bass with another guitarist. He’s had a bunch of good ones with Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai later on but this is truely great. Billy’s bass tone sounded amazing for his solos. It really cut through and was nice and clear
I remember when Yankee Rose and Eat 'Em and Smile came out it was like "In your face, Van Halen!"
5 stars !!!!
David Lee Roth is sensational.... he sings his heart out and is a super entertainer. His energy is "out of this world". Keep them rock'in Diamond Dave!!! I would like to meet the man someday. Kurt David Rohlman
Just as I remembered it
WOW!.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for sharing, never seen this before ❤
Vai is just the best. This kind of format really makes him shine.
It was really great with Steve,Billy and Gregg❤
Great guitar players need to play on great songs to be recognised as truly great .
Complete excellence to say the least, to be at the these shows you always got your monies worth, because the musicians were the best in each of their skills and knowledge of playing. Now, Now listen here asDLR would say, let's not give all the credit to just one player! You,have the Prince of Pound Mr.Gregg,Bissonett who did not miss a beat, incredible Drumming and One of the best Bass Player's to ever Grove City to coin side note for note along the guitar playing Genius of,Mr.Steve,Vai who basically plays better than most people/aliens out there and do not forget about amusician to play keyboards since the late 70',s and is a total legend and play with Rick Springfield with extraordinary skills and he is Mr.Bret,Tuggle now this was the ticket to the Genius of Mr.David Lee Roth the millions this man has made is well deserving, and if you were ever around him you just would have to respect that! As for now every thing he does is, he is just having FUN& being what he does best entertaining!!!!!
The bend at the end of solo sounded like last note from Eugene truck bag failed Solo..🤣
There is no way he can hit the note he hits on the record, using a 24 fret guitar like he has here. I believe he used a 29 fret guitar for that solo in the studio.
what a backing band
I saw this tour.
Saw this live in Vancouver .... back when concerts were magical Z
where is the rest of the show? This is one of the better recordings of this tour I've seen!
This is FAKIN PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍🤟🤟
..this is right after David Lee Roth exited Van HAlen, and his voice was still immaculate then. he is firing on all pistons on this night...
Great,thanks!
Outstanding. Great clip. Thanks for sharing. Would love to see these guys do a reunion tour playing the first two records in their entirety. With Roth actually focusing on the vocals. This is a great performance.
Judging from the recent clips of Roth singing in Vegas, it's not gonna happen. He's toast now. I didnt realize 1986 was so long ago, but I guess it was.
Rodney Palmer Look up some recent ones of the KISS shows. He’s back to 2007/8 level ability. Just a shame it took so long.
@@thefonzkiss well if you say so, I believe you. I'm Class of 86. I was a huge VH fan and DLR fan. That's why it was so jarring to me, to see this clip from 86 and the DLR we all remember, and then to see the Vegas clips. Looks like, Father Time is kicking our ass!!
Kind of a bittersweet song
One of the best rock concerts I’ve ever been to. Providence Civic Center
That was some serious musical muscle.
some of the best footage i've ever seen of this tour. i saw them in Phoenix!
WOW!! THEY ARE FAST?? BADASS ANYWAY!!
Best Rock band ever
I'll take that vai than now
O.K., I'm going to be the musical snob here. We all know that as great a guitarist as Eddie was without DLR there would never have been a Van Halen. As far as Van Halen vs. Van Hager, my humble opinion is that Sammy has a better voice, but DLR is damn near the greatest front man EVER! Also, check out some his blues cuts ("Tell The Truth", etc.) He's intelligent, funny, witty, and one of the most interesting cats on the planet. I think this quote is his, but whosever, it sounds just like something he would say. Someone brought up during an interview that he had been referred to as "cocky". When he replied he said, "Me?" The interview then said "Just confident, huh?" "Nope, just convinced" replied Dave. "I've been doing this so long, I've convinced myself I can do it!" Gotta love him!
Vai and Sheehan holy shit awesome
Very high level rock n roll
Fenomenalt ❤💙❤🇧🇻
Love it want to go back and stay suck there
Super Master Steve ❤️❤️🤟🤟🤟
Greg Bissonette
Billy MF Sheehan
And THE Steve Vai 😮
Oh and
David Lee Roth
Peak Dave
Steve was a real flexable man and Billy on bass, waaa
like this tune
Saw this Tour in Chicago in a Limo with me and 3 Hot Chicks Best Days of My Life!
Holy F**K Steve Vai! 😲
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏ROTH❤
How come he don't play like this no more 🙄
Sounds just like the record
