Shetland pony Brian in harness
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 чер 2017
- Brian came to us from the Isle of Wight for some training. This film shows him out driving around our local lanes, entering the water, standing still on a loose rein, negotiating road junctions, doing the hazards in our arena, and cantering on grass. Like all of the horses we train, he is being driven in a soft, flexible rubber snaffle.

Great attitude to his work, honest, brave, forward going, what a grand little pony! 🥰
Just love this little lad....the quick patter of his little hooves !! He sure can motor with those little legs!
Little Brian can really trot on can’t he!!he does so well for a little one
The little fellows just trot along at top speed. I admire them.
Absolutely fabulous .I take my hat off to you sir .he's going forward and straight .a lovely little fella .🇬🇧🇬🇧🥰☮️
Glad to hear you like him!
Sound and forward! What a lovely pony : )
That is cute that a little charming Shetland has garnered over 3.5 million views.
I love these videos. Too bad I am past the point healthwise to deal with even the tiniest pony or harness. But I did do it as a child so the thrill still remains along with the sounds and smells of working with a great pony. And to hear those little hoofbeats! Heaven!! Thank you Barry for all your work to keep driving alive and all the equines well cared for and trained so kindly.
The pony is awesome
This must be the funniest video you have produce! What a game little chap he is with the best name ever! He is so not a Brian! I really don't like Shetlands as most would sooner bite you than look at you, but he is a real little worker and he loves it's! Definitely his vocation in life!

Brave little pony!!
He looks as if he is enjoying himself. Full of business.
FABULOUS
I have raised trained and worked drafts most.of my 66 years. Trained to harness and riding. Driving and dressage..
Shetland ponies are ABSOLUTELY a gift. They DO love to work iust as my Percheron mares do.
The're mischievous because they are so smart. Work a horse into the ground just as a mule can but a lot more willingly.
One of the reasons Shetlands are such a good childs pony. They have very strong survival instinct and will USUALLY not put themselves in danger if the child is able to stay in the saddle.
such a handsome little guy and this film was relaxing and pleasnt to watch! Barry you are amazing!

Great
He's like a little bumble bee. His legs go like piston rods. He looks as if he throws his heart and soul into his work.
That's a happy pony
It’s weird how there’s not many comments and likes compared to the video’s views
Thanks Barry. We all learn so much xx

Love him! I have a Shetland mare and would love to do something like this. Do you mind me asking how much the carriage weighs?
From memory I think that particular carriage is around 175kg. Brian himself weighs around 200kg, so the carriage plus Barry is well within his comfortable pulling range. Giving Shetlands a driving a driving job is a great idea to keep them fit and have fun!
See, this is what Shetlands are for ;).

I want to see Brian getting a set of shoes!
Sandy Sutherland the same as a whole bunch for you guys think we can
Sandy Sutherland the same as it 0.
I have never seen a Shetland shod; with all the road work you can do driving, how do you keep their hooves in good condition or do you recommend shoeing?

I have minis, a Shetland and a Welsh, I boot them.
How big is this shetland pony? In centimeters. I always wonder if I could drive with my shets. I'm a big 'girl' though and I'm not sure If it would be ok. My are around 95 cm.
I think Brian is around the 9hh-10hh mark (so somewhere between 90 - 100cm). Have a look at our more recent videos of 'The Flying Vicar' and her Shetland team. Her boys are all around the 95cm mark, maybe a little under. Horses (and especially ponies!) can comfortably pull a lot more than we think - and with the right cart and conditioning, even more than that!
Small cart, shetland pony...That's my dream.

Haha Barry sends his thanks, Carol!

Wouldn't having shoes on split the hooves.
Shetland pony & little exercise cart would suit me....if my health would improve enough to do the stable work again....
