  • We ordered a Pioneer 520 and after waiting several months with no delivery date in sight, a new 700 became available. It seemed a difficult decision to cancel our original order and upgrade from the 520 to the larger and wider 700. We chose the 700, and after a maiden voyage of 72 km in the bush we could not be happier. In this video we share some of the differences between the two machines.

Congratulations Paul ! You definitely got a sweet and reliable sxs that's for sure. My love for Honda ATVs dates back to 1988 my Honda 350 foreman atv is still running like new my granddaughter is the proud owner of it now. She really likes it, now the crazy thing is I also just bought a new Honda sxs I purchased the pioneer 1000 5 trail addition, and me and the wife love it. We had a Polaris 500 ranger sxs we purchased in 2004 it was a good machine also, where very happy and we wish you guys the best with your new ride. Thanks for sharing 👍

Great video Paul. I'm in Ontario as well and you answered pretty much all my questions. Looking at buying a Honda Pioneer SXS next spring. Wasn't sure which one to get as keeping the extra $3300 in my pocket buying a 520 vs a 700 is really appealing. But after watching your video, I'm strongly swayed towards the 700 instead for all the reasons you mentioned. Sidenote: A couple years ago we owned a CanAm SXS and would never buy another due to the problem with heat in the cab area. It'll definitely be a Honda come springtime.

      Greetings neighbour!
After a few months of owning the 700 and several hundred km we are very happy we purchased the 700 instead of the 520. It rides and drives like a dream. We have been in the bush on trails we have had our previous Polaris Sportsman 500 on and so far the only limiting factor has not been width but rather the height of the roof and windshield. It is a small inconvenience when compared to all of the benefits. I was planning (on the 520) on installing a 2" lift kit as well as larger tires (to gain ground clearance) and after market power steering. Once I priced those kits out the price difference between the two was quite minimal. I appreciate both machines have their features and benefits, that said, we could not be happier. Thanks for saying hello and sharing your comments. All the best to you and your family!

My friend bought the 700. The only thing he doesn’t like is the three speed only has a top end of about 70 kms per hr. That seems like plenty until you ride back roads that 80 kms is comfortable. You don’t want to run it wide open all the time, so this puts you at around 50 or 60 kms per hour. My 1000 pioneer does about 106 kms and cruise’s comfortable at 80 kms. If you ride with bigger bikes this becomes an issue. 100 percent on the manual front diff lock and power steering. I’m also in Muskoka Ontario.

Thank you so much. I can appreciate your dilemma, it is a bit of a decision. I/we are very happy with the 700 and certainly do not have any regrets purchasing it over the 520. I really appreciate the increased bed size, wider operator compartment, bigger tires, greater ground clearance, and I especially appreciate the power steering, and locking front diff. The increased width has not proven a problem for us and the increased stability it gives has proven a bonus when on some slippery side hills.
Bottom line; I am sure you will appreciate either model, Honda builds great products.

I have a Honda FOURTRAX FOREMAN RUBICON 4X4 AUTOMATIC DCT EPS 4-wheeler.
I’m thinking of getting a side by side. The 520 looks promising, however it has no power steering. Really looking forward to for a trail models and I’m partial Honda for obvious reasons. I’m also looking at the 700 which you said is wider. However it has power steering as well as more power and other advantages. The dealer I go to usually has “plain Jane” bare bones models as well as models with what customers would usually put already installed. I wish Honda would add power steering to the 500 & 520.

      Hello Curtis,
We could not be happier with our Pioneer 700. Yesterday my wife took our first ride of the season. We covered over almost 170 km on mixed trails. Our machine is a delight to drive, I especially appreciate the power steering and automotive style torque converter and transmission. Since producing the video you watched we have added soft doors and a soft rear windshield. Although yesterday was quite chilly ( a few degrees above freezing) we were warm, dry, and comfortable throughout the trip. When we were looking at machines and had a 520 on order, I had already decided that I was going to add aftermarket power steering. All in all, we are so happy with our choice of machines. Good luck in your quest for a machine, I am confident you cannot go wrong buying a Honda.
