@@rogerrentz1448 Hi Roger Perhaps I am not understanding your question. I thought that you wanted to control the order of cuts and engraving That is what the video I sent you was all about. There is feature called Handle,Cut Optimise that when you tick certain boxes it automates cut or engraving ordering, but it is about 90% reliable, That is why I don't use it because often human intelligence is required. The other thing you will find out is that regardless of how you arrange layers the machine always does engraving before cutting. Best wishes Russ
Hi Alex Sorry to say that RDWorks does not have the tools to do this. However if you like visit the lightburnsoftware.com/ you can have a 30 day free trial of a much better RDWorks rewrite that has so many more features including lots of text manipulation capability. I think it will cost about $90to buy Best wishes Russ

Hi Claire I presume you are struggling with script fonts that have overlapping ends and therefore do not join into a single outline. Sady RDWorks is not clever enough to deal with this. There is a complicated way of editing with nodes but it's not practical. However, that trick and MANY others with text and fonts can be managed in Lightburn software. This is basically a rewrite of RDWorks that operates on Win. Mac and Linux machines and also drives many different types of digital controllers This is an amazing program with MANY extra features. You can download it as a 30 day free trial. If you like it is about $90 to buy with 1 year of updates. It's yours for ever but if you need to keep it updated then I think it's about $25 per year www.lightburnsoftware,com Best wishes Russ
great videos, but none of them that I can find address my problem. I received my 50 watt laser a few days ago, and I cannot get it to read any files from my usb stick. I have all different file types on the usb stick, but when I put it in the machine, it says "no files". I have dxf, svg, ai, bmp, pdf, and rid files on the stick, but when I select read usb stick, it says no files. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Ray It's almost certain your USB stick is formatted NTFS. Wrong. It must be formatted FAT32.. Secondly non of the file formats you mentioned can be read by the machine. DXF, BMP and ai can all be IMPORTED into RDWorks but pdf and svg are not recognized formats. When you have created your program with parameters and wishe to send it to the machine it is always a good idea to SAVE your file first. This save will will be a .rld file that can be OPENED in RDWorks at some future date. Once you have your program ready there are 3 things you can do. Provided your machine and PC are connected in some way, ethernet or USB cable. 1) you can press the START button in RDWorks and your program will be sent to the machine as a TEMP FILE and will auto run. Once in machine memory, you can press the machine start button and keep re-running it. It is not saved to the machine memory for future use. 2) You can press the DOWNLOAD button and you will be asked to provide an 8 character file name Once done and ENTER will transfer your file to machine memory where you can recall it at a future date and re run it. 3) When there is no connection between PC and machine you must press the SAVE to UFILE button (bottom right). This will create a machine code file which you can save to your USB stick. You can only load this into your machine with the FILE button after plugging it into the correct Udisk port on your machine. You cannot OPEN or IMPORT this file back into RDWorks. Hope this explains everything Best wishes Russ
Thank you Russ, I have spent two days just trying to get a file into the machine and you got me there in 10 minutes, but when I try to engrave the file it says, "not enough end space", I did a frame test and I have a large enough piece of wood, what is it trying to tell me?
@@rayreeder5234 Hi Ray When you select scan you specify a scan speed , say 400mm/sec. Just like a car, the head cannot immediately run at 400mm/s it takes a certain distance for the head to reach the selected speed. Engraving cannot start until your selected speed has been reached so you must add that distance to the beginning and end of your scanned image . That means you cannot set your picture origin too close to the machine 0,0 You will need to lset your origin at 15,15. for example. Best wishes Russ

Russ I absolutely love your videos, they've taught me nearly everything I know about how to operate RDWorks and my Laser. However, in this case, why on earth would you not just create the first line of text, set the properties the way you want, then copy/paste to get the other lines you want? You can then edit the remaining lines to be the correct content, and you can then do all the same alignment tricks you just showed, but each line remains as editable text that can be changed, both in content and style.
