I don't think that joke or the laughing at John the Baptist was funny at all. Imagine if it were your brother it happened to would you make a joke out of it or even allude to it in any humorous way whatsoever.
K Mastanz Yes, it was bizarre and irreverent. Short jokes are not funny. Playing to the audience for laughs. She used to be considered one of the most dynamic, Spirit-filled speakers who could stir hearts deeply and was able to guide people in prayer. What about talking about the dismemberment of abortion? She could talk about that so that more Catholics could be motivated to protect the young instead of being secular and tolerating the evil. The charismatic renewal could have addressed reality problems instead of only spirituality. Jesus was more grounded in reality and did not say Memorare prayers. He did not substitute Mary for Himself. The charismatic renewal has become routine, mechanical, recited, wooden formulas. There is no point in telling us what is wrong.
