  • In 1970 CBS Records asked arranger/producer Keith Mansfield to 'broaden' Maynard's appeal.
This Carole King song was the end result. It was never released but it sounds great 50 years later!

Opening up on a Maynard Ferguson concert is one of my biggest thrills.

I believe MF and Mansfield collaborated on four albums. They are marked by a very classy, polished and "deep" sound. So I wish there had been a fifth! I have long believed that Mansfield was responsible for MF vaulting into fame. His sound from the '60s would not have had staying power. His "M.F." Horn with Mansfield, I believe 1970, was the real launching pad. High school directors played it for their students, and the rest is history.

Why is there a cover of an album where this song is not played? Or did I miss something?

Artists are told what they will record. if they refuse, they will be told to go someplace else to record. Maynard was not allowed to record half of what he wanted to.
