  • MSI Z590-A PRO - Review of the Motherboard - Good All-Rounder - Intel Rocket Lake
Today we are testing a new Z590 chipset motherboard from MSI called Z590-A Pro. The motherboard is the cheapest proposition from MSI on the Z590 chipset in the ATX format. The manufacturer priced the tested model at around $190. The motherboard is well-equipped on the laminate and the rear I/O panel. The manufacturer has equipped the motherboard with large heatsinks and a good power delivery that will allow you to easily overclock the processor and memory. The equipment also includes 4 diagnostic LEDs that help in case of problems with components. The motherboard does not have a backlight, so RGB fans will not be delighted. Unfortunately, we have also a fairly weak Realtek ALC897 audio codec, which does not impress.
    Test Setup:
    CPU - Intel Core i7 10700K
GPU - ASUS RX 6900 XT
    Memory - G.SKILL RipJawsV 3200MHz CL15 16GB - Overclocked to 3733MHz CL16-16-16-36.
    Motherboard - MSI Z590-A PRO
PC Case - be quiet! Pure Base 802
    PSU - Corsair RM1000X
CPU Cooling - be quiet! Pure Loop 360mm
    Storage - SAMSUNG 980 Pro 500GB + SAMSUNG 870 EVO 1TB
    Default Settings:

For me MSI Z590-A pro would be better choice, but if you wont overclock, performance should be similar. But B560M could be limited by the power limit, but im not sure about this, becouse i didnt test that board. PS. B560 chipset doesnt support CPU overclocking but nowadays overclocking it's not so necessary.

Apparently MSI decided to change the vrm components in their "cheaper" motherboards, becouse in the Z590-A there are BR00 0534 powerstages, but couldnt find any details about these powerstages. Anyway that sollution is better, becouse vrm runs cooler.

Got unlucky with mine, dead on arrival. Had to RMA it. Was extrmeely stressful as it kind of worked, kind of didn't. It would throw a DRAM error and fail to POST most times, which lead me to think my CPU or RAM were the culprits.
Ended up being a defective motherboard. RMA'd it and opted to go for a premium mid tier z590 instead for a few extra bucks instead of a budget entry level board like this one.
I'm sure every manufacturer has their fair share of DOA products and RMA's but just figured i'd share my experience with the board. I opted to go fo the Gigabyte AORUS Elite AX instead - has inbuilt wifi which is handy and a tonne more expansions slots for the future.

That is the heat sink for a M.2 / M.2_1 SSD. If an SSD starts to overheat it will slow down, which will slow performance. If you're installing a M.2. SSD on your machine, at least a good one, that is the place you would want to place it. The other locations are likely for slower/cheaper M.2 SSDs. Though you can always use SATA SSDs or HDDs. Though it's normally recommended to at least have one SSD of 1TB or better for the OS and specific game installs. A M.2 SSD isn't required. At the very least any SSD is better than no SSD though, as even the slowest SSD's are much faster than a HDD. So you can still get away with a M.2 SATA in the other M.2 slots, or a literal SATA cable SSD still. But they're not the best SSDs.

Z590 Gaming Edge Wifi is way more expensive, it has wifi, slightly better power delivery and m.2 heatsinks on all m.2 sockets. If these features are what you need, maybe you could buy that motherboard. But, in my opinion i would go with Z590-A Pro becouse is way cheaper and that platform only can offer 8cores max which is bollocks so i would not spend so much money on mobo.

But if you wanna, you are going to BIOS -> overclocking tab -> core ratio, setting up all core overclock and putting in for example 51 multiplier -> going to core voltage and changing to 1.25v or more. It depends on CPU quality, some overclock better, some worse.
