That and when the balance wheel kicks into life........Listen to me I never gave a thought to watch repair until I started watching Marshall a year ago now I almost feel like a pro. Wonderful UA-camr.
Its so damn spot on. Like while working on watches or doing things around the house I'd throw one of his videos on and let it play. I learned so much from him it's wild.
Before finding Wristwatch Revival on UA-cam I honestly didn't see the point in wristwatches anymore. I own a nice Oris that I never wear. And, I figured, with a clock on my phone, why wear a watch. After going down the rabbit hole on one watch repair journey after another with Marshal I have a new appreciation for the beauty, precision, and engineering talent necessary to create and maintain these tiny machines. I've actually started buying old watches on eBay, purchasing watchmaking tools, and am nearly ready to embark on my own watch repair adventures. Thank you Marshall, for introducing me to a new hobby that I love. I never would have guessed that, of all the scary and bizarre reasons to need a Geiger counter, old watches is why I now have one!
Marshall is a star. It’s as much about his personality as it is about the watches. I love watches but I could never work on them. That’s why the channel is so rewarding.
I am a retired biological scientist with long experience of looking at tiny things through various kinds of microscopes ranging from the kind needed for watchmaking (dissection microscope) to high powered electron microscopes. So I rather miss not using them and recently came across a couple of old pocket watches in my drawer and then discovered Marshall on youtube. Marshall you are very inspiring and you have got me onto a new hobby for cold winter days when I can't be in the garden or the shed. My old university department has kindly given me some old dissection microscopes and I have a metal working lathe for making some of the tools I'll need. Many thanks from a British biologist in Japan !
"The Bob Ross of watch repair" is such an apt comparison. His voice, attitude, and explanations make one feel like they can do this work as well. Nothing is out of reach.
I was never interested in watches until I started watching Marshall take them apart and tell me what everything does, how it works, what the history was... I just love his channel.
I had the privilege of working for a certified watchmaker in the early 70's from the age of 12 to age 16. I learned how to work on baby Ben , big Ben alarm clocks, and pocket watches. Over the years I've lost touch with the trade. ( Lost art ). I will soon be retiring and thought of a good hobby/ possible money making sit down job, and watch repair sounds better all the time. I'm starting to get set up to do it again and I'm inspired by your work. It's rewarding to see some of your patience and completions. Never stop what you are doing, I get great reminders of things past. 👍👍
Finally get to put the face to a man I've watched many times. I love Marshall and his passion for watches and I love how respectful he is and really puts thought behind people's belongings.
Marshall, I sent one of your videos to my partner's son. Last week he said "I haven't stopped watching those videos." I sent one to my son yesterday. He said "I was on my way out of the door and put it on and was casually glancing at it on my phone. I then sat down in an armchair and 35 minutes later I looked up." Great work my friend, your channel is compulsive viewing.
Hey Marshall. I think the reason you are so popular is - well you. Your voice is very calming, you always sound like you are really enjoying what you are doing, always have an interesting comment and you're basically a lovely guy. And of course the subject matter is very therapeutic. Always a good day when a wrist watch revival video pops up! 🙂
I'm an 81 year old retired Sales executive. I found Marshall's site a couple of years ago, I fell in love with them. I will never restore a watch, but love to see the precision and patience needed to do this.
I don't repair watches but I love all things mechanical. Marshall's channel came up in my youtube feed and I was fascinated! His voice is so soothing. I like to watch his vids at the end of the day, they are so informative and relaxing. His enthusiasm is ever present 😊
I really liked it when Marshall talked about people referring to him being the Bob Ross of watches and that is the honest to goodness truth. I used to watch Bob Ross with my Dad and remember how much we enjoyed that and now I enjoy Marshall using his talent on these micro machines. Thanks Marshall.
Nice to see Marshall putting our hobby on the map. He has been so successful on the platform due to his calm voice and charm to follow the journey . The more people he can inspire into this hobby the better.
As a Mechanical Engineer, I LOVE watching this guy work on watches....he does a super job describing every detail of what he is doing. I'd do this for a living if there was HUGE money in it!!
Please keep those videos coming. Watching your videos is just as satisfying as settling down in a comfortable couch and start reading a great book written by one's favorite author.
Marshall actually creates drama during his watch repair videos! Imagine, watching someone disassemble, repair and reassemble a watch and you are riveted watching
Congrats Marshall! A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a close friend and mentioned that I had been watching your channel. He said, yeah, I've been watching it too.
I never imagined I would want to watch someone take apart watches and put them back together, but in these often unpleasant times, it's comforting to find a channel with easy-going, well produced videos like this: mellow, peaceful visits with a personable craftsman who knows what he's doing, not only in watch repair, but in making watchable videos. Though it is Marshall's persona that makes them so interesting, they're never *about* him, always about the watch and the journey. It's a skill.
We love you Marshall, it is always a pleasure to watch you work. Keep going my friend, we are here for you 🎉, your voice is nice to hear. I am following you from Iraq.
Hey Marshal, I've been a long time subscriber and I just realized when I saw your face on the news piece that I had never seen your face. I think for me, that means your content (voice, knowledge, steady handed tool use, pace and problem solving ) was 100% satisfying in and of itself. Your videos have helped me take excellent care of the watch I like to wear for years now and provided a background audio (like Bob Ross) for the work I do at my 9-5. My father just sassed away a couple of weeks ago but a couple of months before he died he gave me a small box of his old and not running watches. At the time I thought they were worthless old things that were ready for the bin. I'm glad I hung on to that box as I now consider all his old stuff to be precious items as far a sentimental value now that he's gone. I think I'll give them a bit of TLC and a cleaning as you have demonstrated so often. Thanks for you channel's content.
Marshall, you are here in Seattle as I am and do what I do but you do it so so much better. I buy old watches mostly on Etsy, repair them and sell on eBay but only when I feel I have done a good job and the watch keeps good time. I have learned quite a bit from your channel and learned to slow my pace and work through each problem. For replacement parts I call Zina at W.H. Hoytt. I love going to her shop, I only wish I could buy all the old machinery she has. I would love to share a coffee with you some time.
I am just watching him take an old seawater damged Rolex apart. He must be brave as even Rolex would not take it on. It must be really satifying when you got to sleep, knowing you have just brought a beautiful, intricate time piece back to life. fascinating video.
I like watching Marshall because it's a pleasant diversion from the craziness of the world and sometimes learn something useful. Who doesn't like mechanical simplicity in a high tech world?
Marshall, Baumgartner Restoration, John's Furniture Repair, April Wilkerson and ChrisFix. Always get a tingle when one of them posts a video. There are others, but these are the best. To me.
Love Marshall and Baumgartner! They both are so relaxing. We put on Baumgartner on the rare days we can take an afternoon nap. Knocks us out within minutes!
I watch (no pun intended) Marshall because as a Boomer, his videos harken back to a day when craftsmen were revered, a day when things were built to withstand the test of time. A day when an object of value was repaired, not just tossed in the trash and replaced with a new, shiny, next-day delivered piece of Chinese junk.
Yup, I clicked on a video cause I was curious to see a watch get torn down and rebuilt. Stayed for the soothing voice and interesting Watch facts/history
I like most stumbled across his channel and now can not get enough. Between his voice and relaxed demeanor how could you not like the guy. Its like the perfect confluence when you add all the elements of videos. He tells the timepieces story while explaining his detailed work and somehow manages to keep me engrossed enough to sit through each of his videos start to finish. My workday often makes me split it up but I always go back and finish each video in its entirety even when it might take 5 or more sittings.
Thanks for doing this, Marshall is the best watch channel for me, and it looks like for others. Great that he got this exposure. It was well done too. Hats off!
Been watching for a while but didn't know he was a PNW guy! The videos do a great job of highlighting how stunning it is that people are able to make parts that tiny and that precise and that durable. It is amazing.
Y'all seem to love the sound of the mainspring seating into its place, but you it's called a 'Thunk' and that was the most satisfying one I ever heard. Love the content.
I just happned to come across the $25,000 seawater Rolex restoration video that was damaged with seawater ingress. Truly a class act of filming and editing. It was such a joy to watch the process from start to completion. What a great way to start your day on a Sunday. Truly remarkable method and talent. And I am so happy the owners daughter was able to get her late father's watch back and running again. Now tell me that is not a great way to start a Sunday!
That's super cool man! Glad to see you getting some recognition. I was stoked to find out you are from Seattle as well. While I don't have the ability to work on watches like you do, I love seeing the revival aspect. As someone who is heavy into electronics as a hobby, saving another thing from the landfill is super important to me.
I like how he talks about it, I would never have imagined I will watch 45 minutes of watch assembly, but he tells so much interesting stuff about it, very cool:)
I have only watched like three of your videos so far, and I find the restorations fascinating! One of your videos just popped up on the homescreen and now I am hooked! Thanks for sharing your gift with us!
there's something very pure and true about someone sharing a passion. people generally, are also mesmerized by "how it works" type content. The youtube channel really hits on a lot of fronts. Even if you don't like watches, can enjoy the videos simply for the calm process of it. To me, there's also this element of permanence, how many phones have you gone through, shoes, clothes... nothing lasts. but here's a 60+ yr old watch with tiny components, highly complex, still ticking away, or able to be brought back. is fascinating.
It’s so true about the Bob Ross comment! I was thinking that same thing, glad other folks are recognizing that. It totally relaxes us to watch these videos at the end of a long workday. Monty Don, the BBC presenter and gardener has the same effect on us. 😄
"for the nerdy people that just kinda wanna go deep with me..." As he says this, the editor of this video mixed in the sound of a timegrapher with the music. It's like meta-nerdery, and I freaking love it.
Should have included Marshall installing a mainspring into its barrel, it really is his favourite sound in watchmaking, he tells us, every time.
That and when the balance wheel starts running.
Here comes the money shot.. *POP*
Oh yeah that's it
That and when the balance wheel kicks into life........Listen to me I never gave a thought to watch repair until I started watching Marshall a year ago now I almost feel like a pro. Wonderful UA-camr.
Everyone needs some consistency in their life. I know 100% of the time he’s going to comment on how it’s the best sound in watchmaking haha
*cachunk*
HEY !!!! It is great to finally put a face to the voice and fingetips that I have spent so much time viewing !!!
His channel has no annoying background music. I love it
Doesn’t need it, his voice are absolutely music for all ears.
Marshall is indeed the Bob Ross of watch repair - very much a compliment. You keep makin' em, Marshall. I will definitely keep watching!
Agreed.
That's is a very fitting comparison indeed!

As a long time fan of limited resources and now wristwatch revival it's nice to see Marshall getting some notice outside of our niche communities
Niche communities? This news channel has under 10 k subs. Marshall have 300 k.
@@viking_nor I thought this was featured on television…
This guy isn't just fixing watches.......he takes you into a journey wich you didn't know you needed. A joy to watch every time
Marshall's great, his channel is like visiting a friend and hanging out.
Marshall is a star. It’s as much about his personality as it is about the watches. I love watches but I could never work on them. That’s why the channel is so rewarding.
Agreed. Nekkid Watchmaker has another uniqe personality with a great sence of humor

I wonder what color decks he uses?
It is good to actually see Marshall as well as hearing his voive!

I love that this segment connected one of its viewers with Marshall to fix her dad's Rolex in one of his best videos.

" _He could make filing taxes cool_ "😄 Now THAT is a Keeper!
Marshall was the inspiration for me starting into watch repair/restoration. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate what he does.
Marshall always says he is just a novice when it comes to watch repair. I disagree, you sir, are an absolute pro .
Love watching his videos. He's the Chef John of watches.
