Joe, the real way to tell if it works is to have a key made without the vats resister and try it. the vats bypass you installed has the resistance needed. This allows you to have keys made that don't cost a fortune.
I worked with some cables under the steering wheel and at some point I disconnected a two wire cable from what I thought was open end but turned out I already had the vat delete and it was actually the resistor needed to start the car because it wouldn’t start anymore. I was lucky I didn’t throw it to the bin because it contained the resistance value. anyway I read the error code and then saw your video which helped me figuring out what I’ve done thanks PS I now saw the orange cable didn’t know what it was
So the security system had a VATS bypass on it but if you didn’t have the viper remote and wasn’t using the remote start/ security system then it likely disabled the car until it could have the viper reprogrammed. Eliminating it as part of the problem was the simplest way to go.
Thanks for the video. I bought a 92 Cadillac DeVille for super cheap that was not starting. I was able to start it only after the battery had completely died, and I jumped it. Drove perfectly until I shut it back off and tried starting it again after the battery had charged. Security light comes on when I try to start but the starter cranks no problem. Could this be a VATS issue? Most people say the car won't even crank but I've seen one person saying it could crank and just prevent the injector pulse. Also have an aftermarket key fab that does not really work. Any advice much appreciated 😁
From what I have seen you get no crank with a bad VATS. But I have read where you will get the car to turn over with no crank, Strange things have happen. I would give it a try. The VATS bypass I used was fairly cheap. I think it was $10. Would the car turn over after shut off?
@@tinkeringjoeVA thanks for the reply, but no after I jumped it that one time I have not been able to start it since. I even tried letting the battery completely die and jumping it again. I really think it's something electrical seeing how it drove perfectly fine
@Doug Ekren Your correct. But I was just trying to bypass the security system by putting the normal bypass in the car and make a video of how to do the bypass. If that makes sense. The viper system its causing problems. So I'm trying to take it out
I had a remote starter on my car but i had it disconnected awhile back and I could start it with a regular key .came home one day i started up cut it off and now it won't start. What do you think?
my problem is i lost the original key and i only have a spare that does not have a resistor.. some of us need to find out what resistance our cars/trucks need
a potentiometer should work but you need to try many values. ps check for the resistance table, there is a list of ~15, so it won’t take long, you can begin with the most popular. I see it’s an old post maybe someone else needs it
What were the problems you were having with your C4 was your security light blinking after a car shut down or was the car never able to turn over?🤔🤔🤔🇺🇸🇺🇸
Most C4s with a VATTS problem I have seen they won't turn over. But I have also heard that you can get the security light blinking and no turn over with a VATTS issue.

Ebay.. But you can buy resistors from a electronic store or online and put them inline for the VATS. If you buy resistors they need to match the reading of your key same as the bypass would
I have a 94 Coupe and everything works on it amd i have no lights on at all. Question is could my VATS already have been disabled? I tried to program a key fob i got for it a while back and the security light you program it with would not come on. When you delete the VATS does it do this. my security light is in the instrument cluster on the left hand side. I guess its possible that its already bypassed. you will have to check under the dash and look for a resistor
My 89 c4 has this problem friend of mine used ohms to fix it but it stalled again ordered a bypass system need help on hooking it up can anyone help please
@Rob McCall after looking at it on ecklers, it seems to be plug and play. Find your key ohms reading and purchase the corresponding bypass. Once you have the correct reading and bypass, find the two wire plug under your dash unplug and plug the bypass in. Besure to disconnect your battery before installing.
i would check that you have the key code that matches the bypass correct first, then check fuses etc and last make sure your starter is working correctly. whats you security light doing?
Actually the easiest way is find the pcm and cut the grey/ green wire that feeds the fuel pump relay 12 volts. On the fuel relay side solder a on/ run fused 12 volt source( something like the wiper motor, of rw defogger). Poof done. Anyone thats worked in shops that's never done this is a gd liar.
why not just solder a 6k resistor on a cable then use heat shrinking tube over it. next crimp a 2 wire connector. the resistor can be a trimmer so you can adjust it to the exact value. You will need a crimper -$10, and soldering pen or station.
What a pain in the ass system! My Brother in Law has a Hummer H3 that has random issues with the Vats system and I had a friend at work who had issues in his car with it also. Just like most other needless crap in modern cars its just something when it goes south its either a band aid type amateur fix or its off to the dealer for expensive repairs and reprogramming. Instead of this PITA system I think they should just give car thieves the chair and televise it during prime time as a theft deterrent. Think modern gas vehicles are bad just wait until everyone is forced to buy an electric car that we wont even be able to work on.
Thanks for the link. Am looking forward to do this on my 01 trans am. Awesome video 👍

Does the chart work for the gator bypass with all 15 resistors built in?

I have been unable to find the right wire any suggestions?
It should be the only two wire connector the goes towards the ignition switch if I remember correctly
Do you know a way to find out what key you need if you don't have a key for it
You should be able to take VIN# to a dealer. And they can get a key for it. Or replace the ignition switch
Does it matter what way the resistor goes on. ?
I don’t see the chat for resisters
Can you please send me the chart for resisters
