Known for his crisp, catchy tech house, Berlin producer and DJ Daniel Steinberg has been a name for a little over two decades. Defected have now taken 'Let Me Down', one of the stand out cuts from his 'Treptow ' album, and issued it with a stunning new remix by fellow countrymen Tube & Berger. 'Let Me Down' gets started with an atmospheric soundscape and a solid kick, snare and funky disco-esque bass line. Things get very deep when the metallic, feedback saturated vocals gel with the second growling bass line making this a perfect midnight floor shaker. Tube & Berger definitely hold their own delivering a bruising, layered bass line and a foray of 80s analogue synth chords. To top it off, they take the track even higher with some soaring vocal rushes and a futuristic guitar synth lead that will leave the floor begging for more

This song just hit me hard with memories and feelings of really good times, in some really dark rooms, strangers smiling, lights flashing, going outside to chill out in the smoke area, sitting down talking shite to some random 20 years old (who I can't even remember the name of) about life, raves, how fucking amazing the music is and the night is, how much I love these nights, how much I love talking shite to randomers in smoke shelters.
Why this song hit me like that, I don't know, but we need it back so bad.

It's typical today. Happy house? Even middle of the road house? They don't really have it. It's mostly the studied stuff - they've made house into the electro attitude of early Kraftwerk or Gary Numan. Which is nothing like what house was originally about. Even the early minimal house and sparser techno was about real exuberance, not the musical equivalent of a model practising a stationary pose in a lounge bar for 5 hours.
"Everybody Everybody" verse sample, Black Box. This is a good mix, but a little flat, studied, mod-dy and introspective compared with the original Black Box house classic. Sign of the times, for sure.
