  • Here is a real little bit of history.
In mid 1971 one of the first organ concerts which STOPS presented in the Edinburgh Playhouse was performed by Nigel Ogden, then just 18 and a newcomer to the concert circuit.
The recording was done with the microphones placed at the front of the circle, in the front row of seating, so there is a lot of audience noise.
But - this is how the Hilsdon sounded before any changes or upgrdingwas done to it, so it's a valuable little bit of history from our point of view.
It is due to the efforts of STOPS members that the Playhouse is still standing, and has been being used as a live theatre for the last 40 years.
STOPS - the Scottish Theatre Organ Preservation Society, founded on 29th October 1972, is Scotland’s oldest cinema/theatre organ society, and is a registered Scottish charity (SC 018217).
STOPS owns and operate the New Palace Theatre Organ Heritage Centre in Greenlaw, Scotland and present an annual season of silent films with live accompaniment as well as occasional theatre organ concerts, with part of the Playhouse organ as the nucleus of our instrument.
Our website is www.stops.org for the Society and www.nptohc.co.uk for the New Palace Theatre Organ Heritage Centre and we are on Facebook as ‘stops.org’ and ‘nptohc’.
We welcome donations of all amounts, which can be made to www.paypal.me/stops
