All this will do is limit the local law enforcement resources willing to assist with HSI-issued BOLOs. It doesn't mean local officers won't assist, if a federal officer needs immediate assistance. However, local officers will not get involved in locating high-priority HSI subjects. HP suspects run a higher risk of violent encounters. If a city/county/state officer is killed, the financial assistance offered to the family is comparatively smaller. Had Jarrott been fully informed, he would have waited for backup or logged the sighting for HSI. The fact that HSI agents witnessed the stop and arrived ONLY after Jarrott was shot and the suspect fled the scene, tells every local officer all they need to know concerning their exact worth in the eyes of HSI. HSI knew they made a mistake and still claimed immunity. They should have owned up to their mistakes and rightly compensated the family.
How in the world did this officer let this guy just walk out the driver side door like that? Anytime I ever see someone get pulled or if I've ever been pulled, it's always basically stay in your seat, sit tight, and don't move...And definitely don't just waltz out of the vehicle. This seemed strange all around. Very very sad.
I'm not at all surprised by this decision, as the law seems to be designed to protect the criminals, & even those POSING as "crime fighters" who are just as guilty as the criminals as a result of their careless acts. And no. I'm not reading replies
Would definitely recommend into hiring multiple private investigators. Jarrot couldve died over something as small as an argument with one his supervisors. You know cops dont like to lose, to be told what to do, especially if they are in the wrong and you call them out for it. Definitely more than meets the eye.
What pisses me off is that Mrs Jarrott was lured by a pos incompetent attorney into filing a case against Homeland Security, probably paying big money up front to the sht weasel after being promised a huge settlement. That lawyer knew full well that Federal agents have concrete qualified immunity, and he never set foot into a federal courtroom. Better call Saul🤦🏼♂️
What a joke. They were totally responsible for his death. The least they could have done Is throw twenty mil at his wife. What a slap in the face. His death could have been prevented. Instead , they just sat back and watched him get shot to death. Like I said before let the little man do all the work. I would really like to read what the Judge based his decision on.
That is absolutely ASININE. This was 1000% HSI's fault. They told Jarrot to stop Cueva alone with backup trailing KNOWING he was a very violent and dangerous suspect. The family should pursue charges again! God bless the wife and 4 children left behind because of the Federal Agency's abject failure.
You can be detained while an officer conducts an investigation. Being detained just means you can't leave. You're not getting arrested and you're free to go after the investigation is over as long as the officer doesn't find probable cause for arresting you. Stuff like not wearing a seat belt or mild speeding will only result in a ticket while more serious offenses like obstructing the investigation and assaulting an officer will definitely see you arrested.
