@@j0kerclash289 love this insight. Scanlan is definitely a character who continues to grow, yet not in the eyes of his peers unfortunately. "And if he were here, he would say: Yes, I have privates." *brief grin followed by a blank stare* God. The blank expression right after is what cracks me up.
Favorite bits: Scanlan is still the best at remembering small details / names of people's lives (a real storyteller! Lawrence and Flamespeaker’s greeting! though he called him Flameseeker lmao 😂) Pike always goes for the earring first despite knowing Scanlan won't be in range. Scanlan, when asked if he had the earring, says "of course". Like it's just natural for him to have some link to his friends despite ghosting them Grog already trying to steal from Percy's private collections. Keyleth losing pretense and being awkward and longwinded with everyone before Vex intercepts with a prompt plan. Grog / Travis directing the team to the most obvious direction VM has to go in and playing it off as dumb Percy being an *sshole yet secretly still being a fan of Scanlan. Pike's old crush on Percy referenced Keyleth and Percy butting heads yet still being fond of each other!! Grog and Pike shenanigans!!! Cerkonos' humor breaking Matt's mask!! So so good
I am not far enough in the episode right now and maybe I missed something, but if "everyone" from the previous campaign is here does this mean there's a chance we get Vax back briefly. I mean he is stuck in a marble. But, um....maybe? Pretty please?
I would guess, based on things Matt has said before, that it's a bit of an Avengers/MCU situation. If there's a big enough threat why _wouldn't_ some of the most powerful heroes show up? Now, how you go about doing that is a struggle. These heroes are the characters of all the people at the table, and there's limits to how much Matt wants to play those characters back at their players (I've done it, it's a cool but intimidating thing to do). So I think he just eventually told them that, and asked if they were game to try something a little crazy. Funny thing is, when it comes to role playing multiple characters, it's not that hard (so long as you accept that some are going to stand back from the action a bit as players focus on one over the other). It's managing the mechanics of twice as many PC's that's more tricky.
40:31 Travis… in the first episode I watched properly you were dressed as a tavern wench… and seeing Matt as Gerelt was the first thing I saw. I knew what I had found. I wasn’t clicking away. That’s why I love the Halloween episodes.
I adore the Mighty Nein, and I like Bell's Hells well enough, but goddam I had not realised how much I have missed Vox Machina, and I had genuinely set aside any thoughts of ever seeing them at the table like this again. The band is BACK baby
the whole VM segment was just beautiful return home. they know those characters so well and fell right into their old mannerisms and dramas and i was so happy to see all their fuckery again. i hope this bit last a couple episodes at least.
I will never not enjoy Travis as Grog. I absolutely love Fjord, and Chetney has been enjoyable from the beginning, but Grog is definitely the greatest, still my most favorite to this day.
I believe he's said Grog was his first character ever in DnD. It was before he really knew the game, the rules, or role playing at all, he joined only because of Laura and to hang out initially. It was fun for him to learn the game while being ignorant both out of game and in-game, and play for just kicks and kills. Says so much about the way his love and enjoyment of the game with how far he's come... making multiple chars for this campaign, delving into the mechanics and vigorous note taking and excitment about lore drops... he's developed such a strong love for the game!! So much fun to see that growth and appreciation. But also says so much about Matt's story telling because you can see how much travis (and all of them really) have developed so much game love because of it. Edit - point being, Grog def holds a special place in his heart, no doubt.
Horror movies are meant to be scary, but they usually make me laugh. Yet Sam’s mask is supposed to be funny, but it actually scares the crap out of me.
How about we remember that Ashley spent less time playing her character, since she was filming for a tv show during the original campaign and not be a jerk about her being forgetful. Pike is fantastic and literally no one can tell the creator that she’s playing her character wrong.
@@smashbrandiscootch719 she’s been acting go Pike in the tv show, which is what is most recent in hers and probably most fans’ minds, so it makes sense if the characterization skews more that way. Plus, this is like 30 years post campaign 1, they’re not the same people they were at the end of that
@@sirpercarde709 I also had trouble figuring out if he was ashley or not. Is he actually Ashley's great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather?

Actually, that isn't from Percy's deal with orthax, which is where he got his warlock magic. It's from his formal contract with the cambion that I can't remember
Matt's Vox characters vs Players. Matt's Vex = Laura Vex [Barely notice a difference] Matt's Grog = Travis Grog [Barely notice a difference] Matt's Keyleth = A composed / refined leader showing moments of self reflection on past events. Marisha Keyleth = Emotionally unstable, struggling to keep it together; seems insecure and hesitant. Matt's Pike = Charming and sweet with a touch of fun when the moment calls for it. Ashley's Pike = [Redacted] Matt's Percy = Stern and direct. Selective in speaking their mind and keeps it to the point. Tal's Percy = Smug who lets off an air of know it all. Matt's Scanlan = ??? Sam's Scanlan = Sam
My favorite part about the Keyleth depiction is both can absolutely be the same character entirely. Brave facing it in a position of power while being more open and vulnerable around friends that are basically family

3:50:16 The moment Robbie secured his position as a permanent member on the table forever!
God I hope so
hopefully! he's the only repeat guest that has rlly left a big impression and meshes well with the team!
I would love nothing more than this to be the case!
"And if he were here, he would say: Yes, I have privates." *brief grin followed by a blank stare*
God. The blank expression right after is what cracks me up.
Favorite bits: Scanlan is still the best at remembering small details / names of people's lives (a real storyteller! Lawrence and Flamespeaker’s greeting! though he called him Flameseeker lmao 😂)
Pike always goes for the earring first despite knowing Scanlan won't be in range. Scanlan, when asked if he had the earring, says "of course". Like it's just natural for him to have some link to his friends despite ghosting them
Grog already trying to steal from Percy's private collections. Keyleth losing pretense and being awkward and longwinded with everyone before Vex intercepts with a prompt plan.
Grog / Travis directing the team to the most obvious direction VM has to go in and playing it off as dumb
Percy being an *sshole yet secretly still being a fan of Scanlan. Pike's old crush on Percy referenced
Keyleth and Percy butting heads yet still being fond of each other!!
Grog and Pike shenanigans!!!
Cerkonos' humor breaking Matt's mask!! So so good
Didn't remember that "Flameseeker" isn't his title lmao
I am not far enough in the episode right now and maybe I missed something, but if "everyone" from the previous campaign is here does this mean there's a chance we get Vax back briefly. I mean he is stuck in a marble. But, um....maybe? Pretty please?
@@kielyhuynh I believe getting vax back/saving him is the ultimate goal for vox machina
@@Scott-ql2kx cant win em all 😂
@@kielyhuynh im sure thats the plan later in the campaign! if only briefly
I'll love to see the post campaign wrap up for this, just to understand the thinking of trying to pull this off, with all these characters
What's there to understand? It's pretty straightforward at this point
It's not as if it's some big feat. It's actually easier to run than a normal session.
The Cooldown episodes on Beacon are worth checking out
I would guess, based on things Matt has said before, that it's a bit of an Avengers/MCU situation.

1:15:00 the moment they realized Marisha's bee cage was open on top 😂
@@dziooooo It's honestly so nice to see Robbie being a bit mischievous with them now. 😂
his voice goes so high! and of course, Matt immediately searching for something to throw :D
Liam is experiencing getting hit by Marisha all over again with Laura and those wings😂
I adore the Mighty Nein, and I like Bell's Hells well enough, but goddam I had not realised how much I have missed Vox Machina, and I had genuinely set aside any thoughts of ever seeing them at the table like this again. The band is BACK baby
If you told me Cerkonos would be the funniest character at this moment (especially based on what I've seen in TLOVM), I would not believe you. 😂
I'm just sad they didn't mention Delilah's fate when Percy mentions Bell Hells' last visit, i'm sure he would have loved the news
Monday Crew is truly blessed to not have a live chat asking for clarity on the costumes for four hours.
Just turn off the chat then.
😂
the whole VM segment was just beautiful return home. they know those characters so well and fell right into their old mannerisms and dramas and i was so happy to see all their fuckery again. i hope this bit last a couple episodes at least.
'Away from me Satan." is my favourite thing ever. Great line from Liam.
Loved Talisen's face when Travis shouted, "Hey, Percy!"
It was the face that screams, "I'm about to get a giant hug, and I won't like it."
3:29:39 Me trying to shake Robbie Daymond for dropping those death flags
It would also drive me insane to leave behind an unfinished book
If yall don't keep Robbie forever and ever and ever I'm suing
4:03:17 I feel like an underrated Robbie joke was when Cerkonos called Scanlan the leader of vox machina 😭😭
Every halloween episode is an instant classic.
Edit: holy shit is an cage-pocalypse.
3:00:05 Vex has aged like the finest of wine. Goddamn!
Horror movies are meant to be scary, but they usually make me laugh. Yet Sam’s mask is supposed to be funny, but it actually scares the crap out of me.
definitely uncanny valley
Liem is dressed how everybody's characters will look at the end of all this lol
Reminded me of the ridiculous Dragon Age blood splatter.
I am so sad Sam didn't set his head on fire to be Ghost Rider. Such a missed opportunity.
First time getting new VM content since Dalen’s Closet!! Oh my GOD I’m so excited they’re back!!❤
It's just too bad that Ashley has apparently forgotten everything about Pike and is just playing a new character.
@ maybe we watched different eps bc I thought pike was back and better than ever!! 🪽😇
Plus, this is like 30 years post campaign 1, they’re not the same people they were at the end of that
@@smashbrandiscootch719In all these comments you do nothing but hate its crazy
Robbie serves hotboi, sir, and daddy in a single stream.
... Taliesin in that wig (?) jacket combo is ... Kind of giving a vague Younger/Early Career David Bowie energy.
Yes absolutely, I was thinking the exact same thing!
I thought it was Ashley but unsure how they got two of her...
@@sirpercarde709 I also had trouble figuring out if he was ashley or not. Is he actually Ashley's great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather?
Cerkonos is the Caduceus of Vox Machina confirmed.
i really do love all the parties but Vox Machina’s semi-estranged adult friend group vibes are fuckin’ IMPECCABLE
I hope it's not just me but Travis just rocks the grimed up with long hair look lol boh aragon and con air cage
I agree, he looks good
31:25 is so adorable. "Jester's invading" 😂
Robbie as Cerkonos is. So. Awesome! I can't wait to hear from him more in the coming weeks!
All Nicolas Cage characters:
Matt - H.I. McDunnough, Raising Arizona (1987)
Ashley - Dr. Stanley Goodspeed, The Rock (1996)
Laura - Seth, City of Angels (1998)
Liam - Red, Mandy (2018)
Talesin - Randy, Valley Girl (1983)
Travis - Cameron Poe, Con Air (1997)
Marisha - Edward Malus, The Wicker Man (2006)
Robbie - Jack Singer, Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)
Sam - Castor Troy with Sean Archer's face, Face Off (1997)
There was so much to love about this episode! The sheer joy they shared in getting to pick up their original characters again after so long and include Robbie with was awesome! I've played since I was 10 in 1979. My best, most dedicated group ran a campaign for almost 5 years. What I wouldn't give to see those guys again and play our old game one more time!
It would have been epic to name the dress up event the Chroma Con-Cage lol
I like how they worked in the warlock's pact causing a tiefling to be born into the family.
Actually, that isn't from Percy's deal with orthax, which is where he got his warlock magic. It's from his formal contract with the cambion that I can't remember
Matt's Vox characters vs Players.
Matt's Vex = Laura Vex [Barely notice a difference]
Matt's Grog = Travis Grog [Barely notice a difference]
Matt's Keyleth = A composed / refined leader showing moments of self reflection on past events.
Marisha Keyleth = Emotionally unstable, struggling to keep it together; seems insecure and hesitant.
Matt's Pike = Charming and sweet with a touch of fun when the moment calls for it.
Ashley's Pike = [Redacted]
Matt's Percy = Stern and direct.
I would've loved to hear Matt's version of Scanlan! ♥
@@BroKenYaKnow i agree! when Matt plays Keyleth it's always been as her Voice of the Tempest persona in front of other people of authority and/or people that look up to her as an authority, so it makes sense that's the only personality we get to see of her then

When you try to look for Liam during the VM segment and then you remember 😭😭😭
Man, I love Keyleth. Marisha absolutely killed it in that dialogue with Vex.
As someone who wanted to strangle my DM whenever he'd make me play 2 characters in one session (which was frustratingly common since it was the leader of a rogues guild and the captain of the city guard) I am blown away by the fact that EVERYONE was able to play 2/3 characters for the entire 4h session with minimal confusion. Like I understand that they're actually professional D&D players by now, but dang...
I'm totally cool if Robbie becomes a permanent fixture in the Critical Role cast
Sam as Scanlan continues to be the gift that keeps giving

You know, with a bit of transmutation magic from Caleb, or Scanlan for that matter, Veth can have the best of both worlds.
1:35:36 i love the "tell her that Bells Hells are with you" said by a winged Laura-Nicholas Cage😂😂
Finally got around to saving Planerider Rynn. Only about 61 episodes late lmao
It would be really funny if they had brought Tary and not Scanlan. 2 weeks later Scanlan bursts into Whitestone because he heard there is a crisis.
After how badly they screwed up Scanlan's story in season 3 of TLoVM, fans would literally riot if they didn't bring Scanlan back.
@@smashbrandiscootch719 i'm curious, why do you say they screwed up scanlan's story?

That Patrick Warburton impression is absolutely amazing. Y'know, if this whole moon business doesn't work out, Nic Cage could make a great career out of being a voice actor.
