I think it's weird to compare her Broadway stuff with Miranda stuff. She's still the same actress while portraying both characters, so of course there's gonna be similarity. It's just like any actor who has played more than one character. It's her voice, it's not going to completely transform between roles.
I don’t know about that, she definitely improved on her belting but she’s admitted herself that belting is just not in her range, I’d be a lot happier if they cast her in a role that for a true soprano but there’s not a lot of roles like that rn on Broadway :(
She's using this BEAUTIFUL heady mix, and it suits her voice so wonderfully well. Honestly, I've never cared for the timbre of Colleen's belts above B4, but when she utilizes her Classical training, it's just breathtaking.
@@falsettogod5853 No, I just don't like the timbre. She produces the notes well, but some voices just aren't pretty in certain ranges with specific placements. Quick example: Kristin Chenoweth belting an E5 versus using head voice. Her technique is perfect on both, but anyone could tell you that the head voice sounds better. I also know GREAT belters who can soar on a high F for days, but sound like boy sopranos in their head voice. Every voice is unique, and I'm just happy Colleen decided to utilize her strengths and incorporate them into her character.
@benpetxr that wasn’t a hate comment !! It was vocal analysis saying how awesome Colleen is when she does what she was trained to do and how she can sound better with a different approach
people say she sounds like miranda and yes she somewhat does, but the way she acted as dawn in the show made it work. you can’t judge what it sounds like unless you saw her play the part because she KILLED it she was amazing.
Y’all she improved, yes, but it was never bad to begin with. To be honest I never heard Miranda in these performances. But even if I did it’s ok! That’s her character! I’m sure one of the main reasons she was cast is because she can play funny, quirky character. She sounds amazing!
So agree!! I think that people who were complaining about her accent didn’t take into consideration that if the director wanted her to take to down, she would have! The accent was intentional! Ugh I’m just SO proud of her!! She rocked it!!!
We only heard Miranda because it's how we interpret that, but you could have said the same thing about old ones. She's just incredible. I saw her live on first night.
Coffee Fan 517 Sksksk and I oop I totally agree! I didn’t particularly hear Miranda to begin with, but I think people were so accustomed to her as Miranda that that’s what they heard!
Agree to disagree. Just because the director wants something doesn’t mean the actor can deliver. Colleen can as shown here, but I’m sure she had first day nerves (obviously did from her vlogs). She’s been singing as Miranda for years and her dialect is very close to Dawn’s so it’s easy to get lost in when I’m sure. I’m not going to hate on her for doing it at the beginning. But give credit where credit is due. She has improved so much and I’m so freaking proud of her!
To the people who say she sounds like Miranda, I bet that if Miranda was never created, than you would think that this is amazing. I personally think she did great.
I don't really know this Miranda character you guys are talking about but I personally think Colleen is pretty good here. Not my favorite, but her singing seems pretty polished to me. Probably the only mainstream UA-camr who is deserving to be on broadway.
A lot of people were upset about it but the thing is, she actually has been trained in singing and has a background in theatre, so she actually knows what she’s doing.
miranda is a character she plays on the internet and in her own shows. Miranda happens to have a slight southern accent (twang) so when people heard her as dawn (who is southern) they compared her performance to her "miranda voice"
all of y’all criticizing her act like you have the education and experience to do so. when have you been on broadway? when have you produced a musical and been in charge of casting? exactly. so if you don’t like it just click off and move on with your life.
She has made a tremendous improvement from a previous recording I have heard. I also saw Waitress before she made her debut with a different Dawn. Both their voices were great; bravo Colleen!
okay so im saying this as a fan of colleen, not miranda bc honestly, i was never super into that character. but colleen isn't bad here. she has absolutely improved a lot since the first show. the issue that i take with her rendition of dawn though, is the vowels. it really has nothing to do with her, just her technique. she has an amazing vibrato, a beautiful tone, and jesus she has range. but! i feel like a lot of that goes to the wayside because (especially in the beginning) her diction is less than stellar and she tries to overdo the southern accent in her singing making many of her vowels unpleasant. and im not saying my opinion is fact or anything. it really comes down to preference ya know? but really, in general its a good performance but i just think she missed the mark technically.
Miranda has always been fake... Colleen has always been able to sing. It takes control to keep up the Miranda voice. The two characters share very similar tone quality. Miranda is super nasally, and nasality is very useful when singing a song such as this one. She's also doing a twangy accent so that's more nasal on top.

i saw waitress near me a few days ago and dawn really gets tossed around during this song so before you judge for your breathing, check out a video of it!

Rock The Dwayne Johnson yeah
also I don't really think it sounds like Miranda? probably mostly because its not heavily embellished.
I realized why people hear Miranda. Miranda has a southern twang and dawn is southern so because it’s both colleen our brain makes the correlation
Emily Alex yeah Miranda has a southern twang from Tacoma, Washington
She sounds a lot less Miranda and a lot more Dawn here. I’m really proud for her improvement.
I hope Colleen auditions for another musical. She has been gifted with an amazing voice made for Broadway musicals!
Happyinhi 7 pretty sure she didn’t even audition. they just asked her to do it lol

She's using this BEAUTIFUL heady mix, and it suits her voice so wonderfully well. Honestly, I've never cared for the timbre of Colleen's belts above B4, but when she utilizes her Classical training, it's just breathtaking.
Yeah her normal belts get way to chesty when she sings high. This is much more broadway

she’s improved so much oh my god
Her breath control, pitch, and accent all seriously improved from the first performance!! I hope someone brings her back to broadway!
I can hear all the words a lot better, and she has captured the character much better. I love this song so much, especially when she is singing
I listened to her first when he sees me and since then SHE HAS IMPROVED SO MUCH HOLY CRAP! I’m so proud of her ❤️

she improved sm omg... the miranda vibes is very minimal on this one 💗💗💗💗

Was anyone going to tell me that Colleen Ballinger was Dawn at some point or was I just supposed to see that in this video myself
I stick with real things
Usually facts and figures
When information's in its place
I minimize the guessing game
Guess what?
I don't like guessing games
Or when I feel things
Before I know the feelings
How am I supposed to operate
If I'm just tossed around by fate?
Like on an unexpected date?

Or ask me questions about myself
Before I've decided that
He can ask me questions about myself

what scares me the most
Is what if when he sees me, what if he doesn't like it?
What if he runs the other way and I can't hide from it?
What happens then?
If when he knows me, he's only disappointed?
What if I give myself away, to only get it given back?
I couldn't live with that
So, I'm just fine, inside my shell-shaped mind
This way I get the best view
So, when he sees me, I want him to
I'm not defensive
I'm simply being cautious
I can't risk reckless dating
Due to my miscalculating
While a certain suitor stands in line
I've seen in movies
Most made for television
You cannot be too careful
When it comes to sharing your life
I could end up a miserable wife
He could be criminal, some sort of psychopath
who escaped from an institution,
somewhere where they don't have girls
He could have masterminded some way to find me
He could be colorblind
How untrustworthy is that
He could be less than kind
Or even worse he could be very nice, have lovely eyes
And make me laugh, come out of hiding
What do I do with that?
Oh, God
What if when he sees me
I like him and he knows it?
What if he opens up a door
And I can't close it?
What happens then?
If when he holds me
My heart is set in motion
I'm not prepared for that
I'm scared of breaking open
But still I can't help from hoping
To find someone to talk to
Who likes the way I am
Someone who when he sees me
Wants to again
In my opinion the accent toned down a little but she still sounds like Miranda
