  • This is Kikopup's dog training tip of the day for today! It is about training your dog to do multiple behaviors that he memorizes in a sequence to build his speed and accuracy doing the behaviors as well as teach him to work on a variable ratio of reinforcement, meaning that he does multiple behaviors before being reinforced without knowing when he will be reinforced.
    Don't forget to reinforce me with a comment! It really increases the views to my videos! :)
    This is the dog training tutorial on how to teach DROP using treats-

    There's 3 levels of attainment there - Bliss: where we're at, Halo: where we're aiming for and Wish: Not a cat's chance...

      Lol, but remember Wish is the one who has anxiety attacks when I bring her somewhere new and if I didnt extensively work on her being ok around dogs she would attack them... So... :) Dont wish for a wish hehe

    You are fantastic and so are your dogs! I love seeing all their different learning styles, too. It's so helpful to see how just changing the reinforcement can change the whole picture for them.

    So many useful tipps, thank you! I'll probably "steal" these two sequences because I am really uncreative at putting behaviors together but Haku can do so many single behaviors. Maybe trying to learn these sequences can help.

    My dog doesnt care for toys outside of the home! Do you have any tips in building toy drive or using it as reinforcement outside of the home? Thank you :)

      Emily, like many other UA-cam trainers, you raise your dogs as puppies and start tugging with them very young. I'd love to see you have a guest trainer on that works with mature dogs to teach them to play as a reward. Since all my dogs are rescues I don't have the option to raise them as tuggers. Thank you for all you do for us!

      I had a two rescues one who was ball (fetch) obsessed which he learned from my geriatric dog, not me. When my old old dog passed I adopted a frightened little rescue girl who was glued to him. Neither liked toys inside or outside. They both loved delivery boxes. So I would use them for tunnels, Matt’s, stepping stones, places to perch on, go into, stay…endless games. Also answer buttons (a couple). She had been a hoarding rescue so maybe she felt badly around toys if they were taken from her by other dogs if she even ever saw one and he was an over friendly constant talker who howled like he was being murdered in cars when it stopped. He was 8 when I adopted him.

    The spin thing was pretty funny to me. I was working with my dog earlier tonight basically with the intention of tiring him out, but of course worked to strengthen some behaviours as well. Turns out that "switch sides" (switching from one heel to the other) which he does perfectly on a path, did not really work well on an open field. He wasn't reliable in finding the heel position on my right side. Now I plan on working specifically on that more over the next few days.

    We have a serious problem. We have a yr old puppy that gets upset, throws up, poops, and drools when in a car. We really want to take her everywhere we go because we live in a high fire area and don't want to lose her. What to do?

    • @yvonneschommer9275
      @yvonneschommer9275 2 роки тому +2

      Maybe try to just get the pup in the car and reward that behavior with treats. If the dog stops to take treats, you're progressing too fast.
      Then try to build up to the car rolling a couple meters, reinforce that and go on from there to make the car rides always a tiny bit longer.
      Might take some time, but it is worth it!

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  2 роки тому

      Ask your vet for anti nausea to give before car rides - use a crate and reinforce a down- you can do the crate and down training with the car off - then turn engine on and off etc in steps. Laying down and being still will reduce car sickness

      She is not drooling or anything else. We have been letting her into the backseat with our other dog. Several weeks first just sitting. Then turning on car. Then driving down the driveway. We are now all the way around the block. Lots of treats. She now asks to go with us but we don't let her. We drive down our 6 mile hill halfway and she is okay. She does pant a lot though but will keep it up. I think she was petrified of the car. Now is much better without drugs. December will have to take her for rabies shot. Will use drug then. Should we get her a chicken treat afterwards? She is coming along. Literally. Thanks for help. You are just great.
