1. Glycine Airman Ashford selling the watch under 1k
2. Bulova A-15 Pilots watch
3.Glycine Airpilot GMT Quartz
4. Seiko SRPH31K1 they also have black and orange and green dial
5. Avi-8 CLOWES AUTOMATIC
6. Any Citizen nighthawk or Avion
7. Long Island pilot watches
8. Marathon Navigator
9. Any Laco Flieger even if it's quartz
10. This is a rare find if you don't mind buying overseas Seiko SRPB61K1 AKA Seiko Navitimer.
Got an Islander from Long Island watches under 200. I got a black with date and wear it on a black and orange rubber strap. 100m water resistant automatic and saphire cristal.
I’m a pilot, my new Seiko SSK005 is my current favorite watch to fly with. You’re getting an automatic GMT for under $500 that’s very legible. It’s super useful when flying and it also looks amazing imo. I can’t wait for Seiko to throw this new GMT movement in a more Flieger style watch.
I reccomend the Swiss Watch Company Bunker, I know it's a field watch but you get a TON for your money. For 500 dollars you get INSANE lume(BGW9), titanium case with hardness coating and a bunch of AR. And its automatic.
I love my Bunker. The lume is insane!
I absolutely love my citizen nighthawk. 10/10 would recommend
I was able to pick up a Glycine Airman GMT for about $700 and I love it!
On a budget I'd check out a timex expidition.lots to choose from and most have the pilot style hands, also cant beat indiglo for night viewing.
I own a Laco Augsburg in 39mm. It's my preferred daily watch for fall and winter 😎
0:24 - - I remember that question. Started to respond with the Oris Big Crown ProPilot myself then immediately slammed on the (thumb) brakes when it dawned on me I paid about $1,400 for mine last year 😒.
Excellent list Jory. I have both the Citizen and the G-Shock, great watches. Now, as regards a flieger, let me tell a short story. If you're a watch snob, stop reading now. Ok, I wasn't sure if I would like a flieger or not, so rather than spend a lot and be disappointed, I bought a watch called an Addies pilot flieger from Ali Express 2 years ago now. Specs, 39mm, 12mm thick, 48mm lug to lug, screw down engraved caseback, engraved screw down crown, all brushed stainless steel, sapphire crystal, an impressive 200m water resistance, Seiko NH35A automatic movement, 40 hr power reserve, still running at +4 spd after 2 years, and seriously bright C3 lume that lasts all night. If I liked this style, my plan was to get rid of this and buy a Laco. I discovered I do indeed like it, but I like the one I have so much I still use it and didn't bother with the Laco. Ok, this watch is at the lower end and will compete only with the Orient but it's better than the Orient with double the water resistance, a similar movement and sapphire, not mineral crystal. Price......$80. Value: Unbeatable. I am a big Orient fan, have more Orients than Seiko's. But in these difficult times, if even $260 is too much for one's budget, the Addies is a better watch at one third the price. Tip. Forget the bracelet, go for a Nato or leather option if available, it's a good quality one. If you don't like the idea of an AE brand on the dial, there's an option of a sterile dial as you can get on some German fliegers.
Seiko Flightmaster. A classic 300 bucks new. 👍
You definitely get alot of watch ⌚ with the Seiko Flight Master and stainless steel. I still need to pick 1 up
A few weeks ago and this is above $1000. Bought an IWC Pilot XX. I love it.
I would vote for the Hamilton Pilot Day/Date “Cooper”. Probably the classiest and most unique Type B they make. Very “tool-y” for as pretty as it is. Good price for what you get.
I really like that Laco. I'm saving to get a nice watch next year and that one is on my list for sure.
I had a 1988 944 turbo that was tuned at made over 400 hp. I miss that car.
Nice video bro! Keep up the the good work!
The Citizen rules that in my humble opinion. THE skyhawk Blue Angels is the one I went for. It links to the atomic clock nightly, has chronograph, countdown, multiple time zones and is always accurate. Plus, it has the slide rule functions we will never use😍!
I have one. Very happy with it!
Got a small wrist, picked up a new Oliv 39mm limited versio Aachen/type 2. Thats my pick of fliegere as well as daily watch. Got a sand themed srpg seiko 5 upgraded with sapphire and leather strap, a gshock and a tissot crono quartz pr100, beside it in my collection
SNK 809 is awesome. Its technically a diver, but the Orient Kamasu is great with similarities to Sinn design with a day/date. Citizen Nighthawks with the Eco Drives are great too.
The Bulova Lunar Pilot is very conspicuous in its absence from this list! It is a very good pilot's watch and also, very unique in form and function. You're killing me T3!
I have the 50th Anniversary model! Beautiful! You are right!!!
Bulova Lunar Pilot is a favorite of mine as well as Hemel. Hemel is a microbrand that makes a variety of aviation inspired watches with both mechaquartz and automatic movements and all are $500 or less.
I have the Alpina Startimer Automatic. And I love the watch. My only complaint is the crown as it bothers my wrist over time.
I really like the Farer Morgan. Look it up!
My choice would be a "flieger" from Dekla, a small German manufacturer in Stuttgart. Traditional Type A and Type B designs in 40, 42, and 44 mm are offered. Watches are built to order with a variety of customizations. Cases are available in stainless steel and bronze. Dials are available in multiple colors. Numerals in white or "old radium." Hands traditional blued or white or yellow gold. With or without date and Dekla name on the dial. Movements are ETA or Sellita. Crown on right or left side. Solid or exhibition case back. The best part? Any combination you can come up with is significantly less than $1000 including shipping to the US. My bronze type A with a sunray blue dial and blued hands along with "old radium" indices was less than $800 when purchased directly from Dekla rather than from a North American distributor. Delivered in about four weeks. Suffice to say it's a stunner.
Great vid!! The Seiko is my favorite ☝🏻. I personally really dig my Islander pilot watch(42 mm green dial and a 39 mm blue dial).
Any of the Long Island Watch Islander 39 or 42mm pilot watches are excellent with sapphire, 100m water resistance, Seiko NH movement and come in at $199. I have the 42mm B-type with date and love it. They have sterile dials.
Great presentation T3! I always enjoy 'list' episodes. The Laco is sublime - a true pilot's watch; the Hamilton Khaki is a sweet thing too; I own the G-Shock Gravity Master, and that thing is a BEAST!! but I love it! The rest? WAYYY too busy.
So cool to see the Orient on this list. Incredible watch. I have the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Air race edition. Also a brilliant pilots watch. Cheers.
Glad to see a Citizen make the list, but I'd suggest the Nighthawk (older version, probably), which has a lot of the same functions with a little less clutter plus a really unique approach to doing a GMT. For only a couple hundred bucks!
If I were in the market for a Pilot's watch, I'd get the Messerschmitt Automatic Pilot Chronograph ME-3H229 powered by the Valjoux 7750. I've seen it new in the $875 - $995 range.
That Orient with the PVD finish was super cool. I have an Alpina Startimer (non-chrono, quartz) and I love it.
Under 1k field watches? Appreciate the vid as always. 🍻
Subscribed !!!
I’m a pilot and I wear a Damasko DS30 mostly. My favorite complication however is GMT and my Lorier Hyperion fills that roll nicely.
Hi I really enjoyed your episode.
If I may add the PRS-22 Speedbird III to your list. It has a:
- Swiss SW200 caliber, 100m WR (with screw down crown), - 20,000 gauss magnetic protection,
- 316L SS,
- sapphire crystal, -
- 39x46x12mm dimensions
- great lume.
Great video
Excellent video brotha 👌 the one pilot watch ⌚ I'm dying to add to the collection is a Sinn 144 STSA Porche design,Orfina PD or a Heuer Pasadena PD or a Eterna Porche design. Alot of value with the Seiko Flight Master though 👌 I still need to get 1
I have the Orient and I also the Seiko 5 Sport Men's Automatic Blue Canvas Watch SNZG11. So I have a type A and type B pilot watch with both of them on NATO straps.
Sweet. Love the Orient, thus far.
The Marathon Military Navigator Pilots Watch with tritium illumination is my choice. I would get the one with U.S. Govt. marking on dial. This is a genuine Military Spec watch which can be purchased for about $400. Yes its quartz, but it was designed to withstand high g-forces and keep exact time.
i love my Bulova A15. so cool looking, TWO rotating bezels!
I have the citizen (steel on leather strap) for more then 15 years of precision and resistance.. I love it and use it also to regulate te mechanical watches. Great video as always 👍😊
That was a scam!
Oh ok 😅 thanks
Seiko SNK809 is $140 ish and type B mechanical. I think i bought it under your recommendation? But it's far to small to be considered a classic design. I used it as a Flight Attendant because i don't feel bad bashing it into titanium all day.
Thank you for doing this video, still looking for that ultimate pilots watch for under a £1000 the problem I now have is there are so many to choose from and in my head (I can get 2) problem solved.
The islander pilot watches look solid too. I was going to buy one but fond a NH-35 basic b-dial pilot watch on ebay for like 66 shipped from china so i decided to give that a try. Should be here by 2023 hopefully lol
All great candidate watches, and I am sure there are many more out there for consideration. I will offer one to add to the list, the Farer Morgan at $905.00. It's a shade under 40mm, has a Selita SW200-1 movement, antimagnetic, and 45mm lug-to-lug length.
Love the Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot
P-40 automatic by the Cincinnati Watch Co!
Hamilton "Cooper" Khaki Aviation Day Date Pilot would be my choice. $945 MSRP, sub $700 on grey market. Classy yet tooly, 100M WR auto, connection to Interstellar... just baller AF.
I am an airline pilot and most of the time wear my G-Shock Metal Square (GMW-B5000MB-1ER). It has everything I need from a watch plus no one has something like that on their wrist in the cockpit. The other one I take to a flight from time to time is my Luminox Navy Seal Original. It looks so nice at first to have all those functions and complications (like Citizen and Seiko) and to have a GPS-assisted watch but in an airliner all those functions are useless. The plane is flying at a speed of 500 mph and there is no time to read all those super tiny numbers and complications. Plus, you have like 3 different clocks integrated into the cockpit right in front of your eyes so, to be honest, for flying you don’t even need to have a watch on your wrist. Except to look cool 😂
love my Orient flight watch, picked it up for $200 from the orient website but it can definitely be found for less.
wears a bit big on my 7 inch wrist but is reasonable, looks great on nato straps
I paid $145 for mine
Hello. What makes the Oris Propilot a pilot watch? Besides the name I don’t see the elements that are present in the watches in this list. Excuse me for the question!
Yema Flygraf Pilot M1...
Drilled lugs
300m water resistant with threaded crown
Sapphire crystal
In house movement, 28,800
If someone does not mind a microbrand, the Farer Bradfield, and the RZE Fortitude are also great pilot watches way under 1K.
The Laco is a great deal and it is a true ww2 flieger
My fav pilot watches right now are my citizen highthawk and my citizen Skyhawk AT snowbirds edition. Although most would probably rather have the titanium version.
Hamilton aviation pilots with the steel band (that you can swap for leather) have the most wear versatility to me and look pretty fantastic. Otherwise I'd go straight to the Orient for its equally traditional dial, mech movement and price. One thing I always consider is mechanical accuracy, which in my experience, is better on my orients than any of my Swiss mechanicals (the ones that aren't cosc).
Hamilton Khaki Field "Murph" since it's at 42mm
Check out the citizen promaster nighthawk blue dial!
I'd pick my Citizen Promaster Sky Blue Angels-- but I'm not sure it's still available new.
The laco is great for the money.2nd on the wish list is the Hamilton love the hands on that one.
0:43 I think you meant 28,800 bph.
Yes I did. That’s what I said. GATO the editor heard something different apparently. 🤣
@@thetimeteller Yeah, I'm sure GATO made the mistake. I had to replay it a few times because I tend to hear what I read.
For a sub $1,000 USD flieger, I would also consider Hemel. I've got the Airfoil Full-Lume and it's fantastic.
Ah yes, a pilots watch that you can dive with. Exactly what a pilot needs.
SWC with its Hyper-G is an absolutely beautiful well made Swiss Mechanical Grade 5 Titanium masterpiece for under $1000. I think that it is an IWC alternative for sure
T3, what do u think about the Hami Aviation Converter?
I know you already had a couple of Hamilton's on there, but I actually would have gone with the Hamilton khaki pilot pioneer, the reissue of the Hamilton w10 from the 1970s. Currently going for about $600 on joema shop. I own it, and it is one of my favorite timepieces
Go small on the supercharger and forcus on the airflow. It'll hold up.
great video. I'd say the Hamilton Khaki is the nicest here.
I am a fan of fliegers and have the Hamilton Pilot Day Date Auto 46mm as I wanted a bigger watch, but the day/date placement isn't the best. I think the "Cooper" looks better even though it's smaller. Otherwise, Laco does it right.
Regarding the second Hamilton, I think you showed pictures of 2 different models. One has the day/ date at 3. The other has the day at 12 and the date at 6.
I like the faux patination, but they should use the same color for the day and date. That is my biggest problem with it. Usually the date will be just white.
My favourite one is the Orient
How in Gods green earth did you not mention the Hamilton Khaki Aviation pilot day date? I mean it’s an automatic with a great movement… day date and even used in Interstellar… for $600. 100 meters on a great bracelet .
Very useful and interesting video, except that the typeB Flieger is not a pilot’s watch, it was worn by the navigator
I think it’s worth noticing that Laco and Stowa are two of the original five producers of Luftwaffe fliegers during WW2.
In My opinion the Swiss Watch Company Hyper-G is a fantastic watch and fantastic value at $565
I would add the Citizen Nighthawk and the Bulova A-15
Bulova Lunar Pilot love mine
Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer or the Khaki Pilot Day Date. Pioneer gets points for style and the Day Date gets points for being in my favorite movie, Interstellar.
Too many HAMILTONS but you forgot the PILOT PIONEER MECHANICAL. It's a small watch (36mm) but still a great one. My wrist is too big to pull it off but there are so many out there who like 36mm watches. There are also a couple of Stowa models under 1000 $. I'd go with the G-SHOCK. My favourite, but over 1000 $ is the Stowa sport. It's the closest I can get to the IWC Big Pilot without destroying my bank account.
Rock and stone!
Yeah, yeah, the Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot has a list of outstanding features and is from a reputable, independent brand and everything. But do you know? Recently I was finally able to get my hands on the Hamilton Khaki Field Pioneer and except for the case finishes, I can say that it is up there with the Oris... and for half the price! Anyway I prefer the design of my Khaki Field Pioneer: that beautiful coin bezel and back, the huge onion crown, cathedral hands, the endless seconds hand.
I have several pilot watches, from the very functional ones to the more classic, mechanical and quartz ones, but this Hamilton is the best hands down.
Hard to beat Hamilton overall for sub1K. But I'd probably go for an Alpina quartz if "checking the box" for affordable pilot.
I wish there was a type A version of the orient. Not a big fan of type B dials
Anyone know of a cheap quartz watch with a B dial for kids? My boys like the dial of the seiko snk809, but I think the set and forget nature of quartz would be better for them.
For my money, I'd get the Citizen; it rocks! I also like the Seiko Flight Master, but I don't know its retail price; being a Seiko, I doubt it's much over $1,000. I'd get either the Citizen or the Seiko Flight Master. Since I have a collection of Citizen pilot watches (Navihawks, Nighthawks, and Skyhawks); since I like the Seiko and want one; the Flight Master will be my next acquisition.
yo tt dont forget about us small wrist guys...
i needed this list. ive sent my citizen avion into citizen twice and it still doesnt work. i have half a dozen other citizens that are all perfect, love em, but they let me down on this one.
The best one is the LACO: a REAL Fliegeruhr of the 2nd WW: if you want a Flieger GET THE REAL ONE!
2nd place for Citizen titanium: a bit too big, but sooo COOL.
3d place Hamilton quartz with supernice indeces with old patina: so bloody beautiful and elegant!!! 😎😎😎🚀🚀🚀🃏🃏🃏
Citizen blue angel is probably Citizens most capable pilots watch.
Iwc spitefire is probably my favorite pilot watch; mainly because i love me those dual time complications. It's a shame they are not in production anymore. Just got myself a blancpain leman timezome and a zenith captain elite dual timer. Love them both, but would be nice to find a pilot watch with a similar function. Would absolutely love to see more pilot watches with functions similar to the blancpain or like a JLC master geographic; it's strange that so few have a gmt or dual time or even a semi-world time complications given how much pilots fly.
A Rolex Air King that's been run over by a truck without box and papers.
Laco, no doubt !
Hey Jory, were you at a starbucks in Los Angeles today, the one down the road from LAX? I was on the way to a job interview so i couldnt chat, but was that you?? This was at 10:50am PST
Nope! Sorry bro. Wasn’t me.
Yom Kippur, I was fasting all day.
U forgot the hamilton khaki pilot pioneer mechanical 😮
Seagull 1963 Chinese Air Force mechanical chronograph. Rich in history, beautiful and reliable movement, the most affordable mechanical chronograph (less than USD400). Hard to beat.
I do not like faux patina, that is why I did get a LHD Tudor Pelagos.
Jory, you ignored my question to the last video about Stowa. Come on man! And you are making another pilot video? Stowa or Laco?
Hey bruddah, i know this is off the topic, but i was wondering if u would check out Christopher Ward again??.. I see u did a vid about 4yrs ago... Plz and thank u..
I made 5 videos about them. You’re welcome lol.
Wow. A lot of people have been selected for a giveaway by someone that I am pretty sure is not the Time Teller.
Oris seems to increase their prices on a monthly basis. Shame. They're becoming more inaccessible. Great list, though. Thanks so much.
