Thanks for another great video on the XK. I have added anything I didn't have down, to my XKR checklist 👌🏻
Very comprehensive video break down of what to look for when buying a XK8 or indeed any car. Worth replaying this video a few times to take in all the detail you have highlighted.
Very useful advice and history is nr. 1 to check. Greetings from a German Jaaag lover. Driving XJ´s since 1979.
Just purchased a 2007 xk two days a go . So this is perfect timing
Brilliant timing. I'm just looking for one. Thanks a lot. They seem like great value now (even with maintenance in mind) still looks stunning.
UK prices £10 k or even a bit cheaper you can still find a good XK , a bit more for a good XKR. Some cars available with higher miles from around £8k but will probably need a few jobs doing. The 4.2 is almost bulletproof
Nice one. Great video. That exhaust sounds great
Thanks so much. Super helpful in looking at the XK id love to buy. Thank you
Subscribed. Looking to buy a Jaguar XK soon, so very informative and helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. Especially like your practical methods of appraising a car in separate categories. On the basis of this video only, I just now subscribed with notifications on and of course liked. 👍
Thanks 😊 appreciate it
Even though I've owned an XK for four years I've been binge watching XK buyers guides this morning (when will we finally get a summer?) and really enjoyed your informative video.
Before I bought mine I checked the MOT history online, as you mention, for any outstanding or unattended to advisories. It's a good indicator of the care that previous owners have taken if there are failures / advisories for things like excessively worn brake pads, blown light bulbs, knackered tyres and such like, which indicate general lack of attention and care. I also took an OBD reader with me to check for any recent error codes that might have been logged, which can pick up potential issues that may not be obvious to a visual inspection or have not yet been attended to.
Obd reader is a good one 👍
Excellent report. I looked at most you covered but not all. However, I think I have been fairly lucky with mine, 2011 XKR. I just need to do the diff oil, have seen your clip on that. Most useful.
Have to start with a big thank you, I’m currently still looking for one as good as yours , I’m now armed with all the information required, coupled with the preventative maintenance videos feeling a bit more confident and I will not let emotions get in the way of viewing an xf/r , looks can be deceiving and as you say the cars history is very important.
Hi im in the market for xk150, and this had been best vid seen. Great work.
Thanks buddy
Great video. On the XKR version an often forgotten item is the oil change for the supercharger. A highly stressed part with only a small amount of oil, it’s a very important job.
Great video and very informative! Looking to get one of these myself and I may try looking for a VX55 model. Would be really cool especially as a car enthusiast myself.
Excellent information. thanks.
It is good advice because if you find one you really like it’s so difficult not to get hypnotised by the beauty of car 😍then the brain goes in the bin ! Fortunately for me the car I bought was A1 and still is (touch wood )👍🏻
Even though I've spent my life around cars, it happened to me with my Porsche. It was a bit rough around the edges, and I should really have walked away. But.. , it was dirt cheap
Thank que very much great video m8
That's a beautiful car. It's kinda like European Corvette in many ways. It also reminds me of a Porsche 928 in some ways. Automatic, big V8 and superb GT cruiser.
Muscle car with manners ☺️
I wouldn't compare this Jaguar to something like a Corvette! That's like comparing the looks of Catherine Zeta Jones with someone like Natalie Portman.. a bit of a stretch. Mind you points of view are like anything... we all have one!😉
Had my XKR few weeks only. 5.0supercharged version. Love it. Best car I've owned and I've had a lot. Lol. Good video mate. 😊
I couldn't afford a 5.0 or Supercharged. Sounds like a beauty. If you want a swap just ask 😆
@@life_on_cars I like your car but couldn't swop. Would miss the extra power. It's in salsa red too. Perfect wheels. Body work. Jag service history. Premium tyres. Does have few quirks as you have also discovered. Lol.
you don't have enough subscribers - thanks for this, I will look at your back-catalogue, thanks
Welcome!
Thank you from NZ!
Hey thank you for watching 👍😊
Embarking on 1st XK ownership in a couple of weeks, used this vid to help gain assurance. I am aware of a few minor stone chips, now going to get addressed as want to avoid the alu corrosion bubbles. Prevention is always better than cure!
Thanks 😊. I've touched a few bits in on mine to stop the corrosion
Thanks for sharing all the informative videos. One thing I’ve noticed on my Jaguar is that some parts underneath is prone to rust and I think this is due to tata steel not treating the steel correctly. I’ve heard a lot of good things about lanoguard and wondered if this is something you might consider doing in later videos. Keep the videos coming as I really enjoy the detail.
Thanks for the message. Yes I need to do some rust protection on mine over the winter
Top video, great tips. Your XK is in excellent condition. I’m 9 months into my XK ownership. It’s been an adventure 🤣. 👍
Glad you are on a similar journey. We need to appreciate these old school cars with V8 while we can.
When you say adventure, do you mean you and your bank account? ;)
@@rpkruizinga9599 A bit of both! Some nice driving this summer but - 4 premium tyres and a full 90k service. Down the rabbit hole at the moment fixing the air con. 😂😂
Fab review. I have a 2011 XKR have had for nearly 4 years I'm on my second Jag service book bought from Jaguar £45, but its genuine!!!,all previuos stamped.i think the first owner had on a 3 year pcp, with servivec package. So has had for over half of her life dealer stamp. I use a great indi with the latest Jag soft ware he has to buy to keep on top of new upgrades. I'm having my diff oil changed in October service time. I've had the gear box service 2 years ago at 68000 Miles. Steering fluid flushed and refill. I've had a new air con compressor and condenser, Plus another cooling rad. Belts done last October, plus roll bar torsion bushes . Dinitrol undersealing, real comprehensive job. All 4 wheels realigned. New 21/22, Nav disc. Seat areas refurbished. So to me she's in good shape🤞
Very comprehensive clip you put up here .Well done. Just edited dreadful auto text😰
Thanks buddy
Good video Paul, your cars looking well.
Thanks 😊
A good video. We got fed up with feeding the CD player after a few days of ownership so I bought a Bluetooth module for £20 on eBay which plugged into the back of the radio and we now have unlimited music streaming from a phone. I believe that the early X150s pre-2009 like our 2006 are even easier to convert to Bluetooth than the later models. It would make a good video for others to follow if you fancied doing it.
Richard
I do like old school music systems though ☺️
😁Hi Paul Very good video one of the best out there. I am just starting my journey wit the XK. having viewed some and have others yet to see your tips will be most useful in finding that perfect car. Love the way you carry out repairs with the minimum of tools and facilities not like these guys almost professional work shops at home. Would be interested on your take of a diagnostic tool Keep up the good work Dave
Thanks buddy would you believe it so far I've not bought a diagnostic tool. I can diagnose most things with my cheap multimeter, the last two jobs my multimeter helped was an ABS fault and a CAN bus fault. This was before i started to do You Tube but one day I might buy a diagnostic tool. . If I do I'll put on here 👍. I was looking at icarsoft UK system recently. It looked good 👍

Thank yoy!!! Greetings from beautiful Miami Florida USA. Believe it or not. I discovered the xk 150 about 2 years ago. Very rare car over here. I fell in love with it. Beautiful, sexy, powerful, elegant.... everything I am 😅 well i think i am 😂. Its a practical work of art. With the help of your video I will acquire one soon. Thanks for your detailed video. Best regards from across the pond.
Thanks very much ! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊🇬🇧👍
Great video, having just got my 07 XKR a couple of weeks ago, totally agree with everything on here and glad to say I think I checked 90% of everything you mentioned. The car is wonderful, especially on the motorway, effortless. Only thing I'm living with is the lights, they are a bit yellowy so that is my first major work, any advice on how to sort that would be welcome. Got some engine dressing yesterday to get the engine plastics nice and shiny!
I'm going to do a headlamp video soon buddy
@@life_on_cars Brilliant mate, really want to avoid having to replace them.
Great video. Wish I’d seen it both I purchased. Satisfied I check all the important things but your video gives confidence. Q: Does your XK have a temperature gauge. My 2009 doesn’t and I live in a hot weather area. Any after market fixes.
Another excellent video, Paul
One thing that Just Cruisin' mentioned was the glovebox lid should be damped. Mine isn't and I don't remember it ever being the case! I was wondering, has yours got a damper?
Let me look and get back to you
Thanks again for another great video, I see on your oil change receipt the garage only changed 5 ltrs.
I understand a lot of the oil is in the torque converter but i thought 6 or 7 litres should be drained out.
Maybe they made a mistake on the bill?
@@life_on_cars that is a possibility or maybe the job wasn't done correctly.
I'm quite sure you are aware that the final top up is when the engine is running.
This is when a further 1 or 2 litres can be added
The old oil doesn't completely drain from the torque converter on these, even overnight...you will always be left with some old oil in there, even once fully topped up...yet another uniquely Jaguar quirk !!
I’ve owned 5 of them. I put 167k miles on my 2007 with only real problem being the water pump - front struts go bad too
kick down on sports mode is brutal. Its like hell has been released.Just be weary of the bank 2 solenoid issue which can happen and a pain in the butt.
Great video thank you. I have noticed the price difference between 4.2 and 5.0 isn’t that great but possibly the 5.0 is not as reliable an engine. Do you have any thoughts?
Buy the best you can afford, and as long as the history is looking good you will be absolutely fine. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi great video i have a xk 2008 just wondering when your main fan comes on mine will come on after 10 miles and will run for 4 minutes after shutting down doesn't seem right maybe thermostat water pump any thought's it not losing coolent
UK? It's not been very warm here I've not heard fan run on before. Could be getting a bit too hot
Yhea car in Scotland never gets hot here does your fan ever come on even sitting in traffic
@@alangilfether6080 don't think I've heard it yet
Many thanks Paul! Great video! Which petrol do you actually fill up with, Super (95 Okt in Germany) or Super+/Racing (98-100 Okt in Germany)? Best regards, Jojo (jojos_world_on_cars)
Best we can get here is the same as you (98 Ron) from Shell or BP. I always go Super +
Hi Pau
I’ve seen a very nice 2011 5.0 xk , do you no if it suffers from the the same cooling problems, valley hose and duckbill ?
Yes it can do. The Duckbill is easily tested (see if water drains from Air Con onto ground under car) other cooling issues are dependent on age and miles. Don't be put off. Lots of good ones out there
@@life_on_cars cheers Paul
What should be fuel economy on the healthy example around the town in moderate traffic?
Mine does about 27MPG around town and 32MPG on a motorway trip
@@life_on_cars wow, that's crazy good for a V8.
I'm planning to view one XK this weekend. It has slight oxidation on doors where they meet chrome trims. Is it a big no or shouldn't be a problem if the price is right? If it was a steel car I wouldn't consider buying it, but I know that oxidation does not penetrate aluminium the same way as rust penetrate steel.
@Kac309 hi the paint can be fixed but make sure you get the price down. It could be £500 or more for the paint job
Im based in the US. Im looking at a 2008 xkr with 90k miles. Its had 2 owners. The headliner is gone and the dash is pealing. They wanted 14k but i offered 8k. They said they would call me Monday 😅 even if they accept it im taking it to get a pre purchace inspection at the jaguar dealership
Good luck 👍
I don’t know why people refer to it as XK 150
Because earlier version is XK8 (X100)
Might have to raid the 🐷 bank😂
Do it..
It’s not an Xk, with the quad exhaust and rev sounds, it’s more like an XJR with supercharger.
