- In 1979, the song "Rise", written by Andy Armer and Alpert's nephew Randy "Badazz" Alpert but without an accompanying album, became a worldwide sensation. The 12" version was a favorite of club DJs and the 7" single, released on July 20, 1979, reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October, staying there for two weeks.[2] "Rise" was Alpert's first No. 1 hit in the US since "This Guy's in Love with You" spent four weeks there in 1968.[3] Armer and the Alperts then set about creating an album to capitalize on the song's success, and Rise was released in September. Thank you so much engelreyes. I’m 65 and I started playing about three years ago😮. It’s never too late my brother. 🎶
@@MrRdmillerWait! So you never picked up an instrument before this?
This is one soulful bass performance Randy! Woooooooo weeeeeee you've got a GREAT tone on your bass! You have a great feel on this song, and your delivery is spot on my friend! Great job!

Original Bass line played by the great Abraham Laboriel
It's Abe Laboriel on bass.
Thanks for the info. I never realised that after hearing Rise many times. But now that you've mentioned it, I can totally hear Louis Johnson's signature sound.
@@MrClassicmetal There’s several bass players in the song, most notably, Abe, Louis and James Jamerson
@@broskimedula5300 It's Abraham Laboriel who plays that bassline, not Johnson.
@@allenjames417 Several bassists played on the _album_ Rise.
But Abe Laboriel is specifically credited as the bassist on track nr.2, which is the _title track_ Rise.

@@lakerdigital Ahhh. Lol. Ok👍🏻😂
nice slap work. I seriously cannot slap in time to save my life.
Thanks Steve. It’s still awkward for me. I appreciate you brother
Herb Alpert has lived the optimal human life.
Probably right👍🏻
Brother Randy to me that song has one of the coolest bassline I’ve ever heard awesome tone on time slap love it 😊👍
Thank you Kennis. I’m still fumbling through the learning of slap. It’s fun when it works.
As someone who can't read music but has played, crappy, bass for a few years, you can learn so much by watching the hands, that twang after the too string run, that, im learning that today man❤️👍
Yes you can. Not only the hand but the fingers. When you play by ear (and watching) you get more of a feel for the rhythm of the song which can be missing in some who read music. Louis Johnson said finding the rhythm is more important than hitting the right note. Thanks for watching.
Randy.... I like this bass sound. Fantastico. You are great bassman. 😃
Thank you FF
