  • A recent hike and portable QRP (low power) amateur radio operation in the field made me realize I have way too much in my equipment bag. Let's go through the bag, see what it has and what can be trimmed out to save weight especially on longer hikes to find operating locations for POTA, SOTA and such.
For a copy of the Word Parks On The Air Amateur Radio Station document either go to the documents section of the POTA Facebook group or email me at AA3KOnTheGo@gmail.com.

I weighed mine this morning at 9 lbs, Trusdx radio, QRP guys EFHW for 20 meters, 6 Ah LifePo4 battery, Home brew 20 meter dipole, headphones, power cable, 50 feet RG-8x, 3 tent stakes, 12 oz throw weight and 3 -50 foot 550 paracord rope bundles. It adds up quick! Thanks for posting this

      Thank you!
Have you looked into RG-174 or 316 for the coax? Could save you a pound + in weight. But you definitely got my QRP bag beat.
