I’m a Black man that grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood in Brooklyn. And I remember the day I opened this epic game as well. It’s amazing how we share such similar memories from completely different backgrounds. This video of these guys took me back to a dope time in life! Shouts out to the Dad for capturing a piece of our era!!!
I was thinking the exact same thing man. I'm a black dude from Detroit, rough neighborhood, no dad BUT his experience of discovering X-Men in the movie theater, loving the show, getting the games, are almost exactly like my experience. It's crazy how we can come from so many different backgrounds yet still be united by things like this. Makes me grateful for UA-cam
@@Bville127yikes! Yea that’s a notorious bad neighborhood; birthplace of Mike Tyson. I’m from south side of Chicago so I know how that is. but I love retro games, Street fighter is one of my favorite franchises.
What I miss most about being a kid is getting extremely excited about things. I loved your reaction to opening the game. As an adult, you buy your own stuff and it just isn't the same.
THAT is the most underrated game of all time. It completely took over me and my friends lives. It was the 1st time we’d ever seen “1st person shooting”. We played 24/7 for months.
You only got 007 the Golden Eye, the very first person shooter game? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My brothers and I, we've got KI GOLD and MK Trilogy. The hottest fighting game in N64 in '96 at the time, infinite combo from Noob Siabot, Rain, and Sub-Zero. KI was one of my favorite fighting games of the mid-90s in the SNES console. My newest friends at the time had bought the Mario 64 system console later that year in '97. Mario 64 is truly the best 1-person 3D adventure game I ever came across, better than all the Super Mario I've played in NES and SNES. I didn't play 007 Golden Eye and Doom 64 until the late 2000s when the PS2 console took over the gaming market, which I wasn't interested in Sony. The loading lag of those games in PS2 was terrible by the gaming developer company. 😪😴 Even til to this modern day, PS games are still lagging due to the rollback netcode, desync controllers...etc. Never count Nintendo out.🤣
Props to your Dad for not only catching all of that footage… but doing so using a full vhs camcorder! Great video, brought back some memories of my own growing up in the 80s and 90s.👍
UPDATE 5/28/24: UA-cam has re-enabled comments! In April of 1996, Mom and Dad completely SHOCKED me with X-Men: Children of the Atom on Sega Saturn - A final surprise gift on my 10th birthday. Hope you enjoy this one guys!
Hi MyRetroLife during that time 1996, I was a fan of X-men as well. I always went to the arcade and play the Children of the Atom. I was shocked when i saw it at the Arcades during that time. now it has been 28 years now which it is a very very very very long time which gives memories as a child now that I'am 41 years old and didn't have any recorded memories on VHS tapes like your dad did. But after 1996, I was also strucked and hit hard my entire life when X-men vs Streetfighter came out in the arcade the next following year. There was Hundreds of people playing that at the arcade non stop. Now i have it on my sega saturn from japan sadely the sega saturn died and Xmen vs Street fighter never made it to north America which is a very disappointment for the Sega Saturn. The US didnot give Sega Saturn the chance to survive because it had so much japan coming out right when Xmen vs Streetfighter was around the corner. Now I have several copies of X-men vs Street fighter "only" from Japan a stand alone copy with the spine card and registration card in mint condition and Box version from japan with the 4 meg version and more copies Im just a fan of how much nice incredible Animation and sprites it has almost identicle to the arcade. Im so happy that im still playing it right now. I also own X-men children of the Atom both American Version and the Japan Version. it such a nice game because of the art work and animation looks so nice in the game. Than after this, several years later Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast also struck me again but man these games were fantastic in the late 90s but i stop from here. Thanks for sharing your videos, it bring back memories exept that i don't memories recorded on VHS by my parents at the time :((((((( sadly
I was obsessed with xmen too. I took my $5 weekly allowance to walmart and got me a new xmen figure every week. Never missed an episode. I still remember it came on at 10am Saturdays. And if i had to miss it, we set the vcr to record it . This vid brought back those memories. Good times.
What beautiful memories, it's unreal that you have all of this footage. Three cheers for 90's camcorder Dad. Your mom seems sweet and a looker, too. Dad was a lucky man! Happy you're sharing all of this with us. Really means a lot.
They didn't have to stop. Disney can easily strike up a deal with Capcom. Disney simply don't care about the fans. They've proven that with Marvel and Star Wars.
Btw what year was this filmed in? And what year were you born? I love the fact you have footage. I was born in 1985. This gave me soo much nostalgia I shed a tear 😢
@@MyRetroLifeis ur parents still alive man? And your bros or sis / and your friends that came over through the years ? Just wondering that’s all hope there all safe and healthy! Also I’m 40 born 83 and a huge gamer til the lord brings me home! Love ur channel brother!
I know the feeling. I remember getting a Super Nintendo for christmas with F-zero, Super Mario, and Pilot Wings! Felt like my heart was just overwhelmed with joy.
I live through these times. Back then the arcade was the place to see the biggest breakthrough in video games especially in the graphics and sound department. The only console that was powerful enough to bring the whole arcade experience home was the NEO GEO and Sharp X68000 which cost an arm and a leg. I remember seeing X-Men COTA for the first time at an airport arcade. I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. It's like I was controlling the saturday morning cartoon. Skip to about a year later my friend told me he bought X-Men COTA for the Saturn. After the game booted my mind was blown 🤯 . It's 100% like the arcade (yeah I know it's not) to a non trained eye. I remember thinking how lucky my friend was that he has an "arcade machine" in his bedroom that he can play everyday and doesn't have to spend quarters. Thank you this video for bringing up great memories ❤
@@CRL365 Yup. The graphics was just too good back then. Remember seeing the danger room stage for the first time and I was like "How did they manage to do this?? 😱"
Awesome that your Dad kept record of these moments. Even brings back nostalgia for me. We were too poor to buy a gaming system but every once and a while I would go to local Mom and Pop Korean convenience store with some quarters and play against the local kids on the arcade machine. Good times!
Dude you were so blessed. I was so happy just watching that Home video. Felt like I was with my family again. Such thoughtful parents as well. They were Wise for recording. Much love man. 🚬🕶
I love how you let the intro play out and all its glory on the first play through. I still do that to this day with new games. Thank you for sharing such an incredible memory!! OPTIC BLAST!! 🙌🏽🥺
Life was rough growing up, but i had a best friend/family that treated me like their own. We would spend Christmas together and couldn't wait to find out what video games he would get! Spending our entire school break just gaming and enjoying life. I really appreciate your format/old school vids. Thank you for sharing it with everyone
Amazing footage! 📼 I have a stack of VHS home movies that my Dad filmed from the 90s. He used to film everything and even do commentary on them. Now that both my parents and older brother are gone. They live on within these tapes. Cherish those memories because they are like gold.
I love this. What a good dad. I want to be that dad to my boy now. Im 41 and this brought me all the way back. Respect to your father. You thought it made your day, it made his 😢
3:31 My dad has that Star Trek TNG pinball set up in his living room along with Twilight Zone & Earthshaker. And then probably about twenty more machines in the basement. He's probably one of the biggest collectors in the north east, easily owns a few thousand cabinets.
The Sega Saturn was such an underrated console! But In a weird way I’m glad it failed (at least in America) because then we probably wouldn’t have gotten something like the Dreamcast! Glad the comments are back up! I watched it as soon as I got the notification the other day! :)
It’s a shame that the Saturn had what SHOULD have been the best home port of Mortal Kombat II. Visually it was arcade-PERFECT, but it suffered big time from constant load times, in-game load lag, missing / glitchy sound samples, and a few other issues. Ultimate MK3 on Saturn turned out being MUCH better, and even closer to the arcade version than MK2 was.
@@tylerdenaro3365 Hands down. Dragon Force, Guardian Heroes, Grandia, Blazing Heroes, Iron Storm, X-men vs Street Fighter, Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Saga. No other console in the 90's came close.
The way you hugged your mom, instantly brought me to tears. The same way I hugged my mom and dad when they got me Goldeneye and Pokémon Red Version for Christmas 1998. The best Christmas of my life. Thank you Tyler for sharing these timeless memories with the world.
Takes me back to my introduction to Children of the Atom. First saw it in a Pizza Hut back when they were still the best pizza chain. I vividly remember seeing Ice Man in action and was amazed at how he obliterated Cyclops with a giant glacier. And proceeded to pose with an ice clone of himself. Combine that with the sensational smell of sweet pizza sauce and it was the perfect day.
Awesome vid!!! ❤ i cried a little. Thank your father, for the footage, perfect moments captured like an movie director, with perfect compositions. Love the X-men, my inner child is excited for the upcoming mcu X-men!!! Lets go!
Dude, I'm probably about your age and I'm a dad. That reaction & that face is why we do what we do. I love surprising my kids. It's worth every penny and every hassle.
Dang! I just came to see 🙈 X-Men games 🎮. I didn't expect to get sucked in an emotional 😭 Rollercoaster 🎢🎡! I think 🤔 its adorable ❤🥰 how much your parents showed love to you & your friends. If i ever have kids this is the type of parent I want to be
Man, having recording from the pre 2000's is a gem...I have pictures, but many have disappeared and recordings of anything were rare. Video camcorders were really expensive back then, the the tapes were also expensive ....you have an awesome father man, glad you are sharing these memories as it helps me reminisce about life back then in general ..homes, life, everything
This is overwhelming beautiful that you still have footage of you as a child with all these memories. I get emotional for you. And your amazing family.
You described exactly how I felt when I saw X-Men C.O.T.A for the first time. Our arcade had it on the jumbo screen when it was released and everyone lost their minds. I was obsessed with X-Men cards, comics and the show so was in absolute awe as a 10 year old. Great video!
Great trip back memory lane! I think at the height of the popularity of the game, there would be several machines playing the same game at the video arcade. The sensory overload was awesome with all the sound coming from all the machines as they were being played 😊
Thank you for sharing this! Fantastic video o/ I wasn't there but man I felt like I was. I had a similar experience but with Spider-man. I got my first Sega Genesis and with it was Separation Anxiety! You could play as Spidey AND Venom and beat up bad guys. It was amazing! o/
Fantastic video. I wasn't an X-Men game kid, but the comics, cartoons and toys. Holy shit that was life man. The old video cuts really hit home man, awesome.
I'm glad I ran across your channel with this video first. The excitement and enthusiasm your dad captured is priceless. You guys had a LOT of cool stuff, but it sure feels like your folks understood it only mattered if it was a part of the love you guys had for each other. Super RAD. Yep, I said rad. 🙂
This got put in my recommends and I gotta say, I loved watching this video. I love seeing kids who are truly appreciative of gifts they get and seeing you flip out for every x-men toy you got made me so happy and a bit jealous. But what I really liked was seeing how well you and your brother got along and played the game as a team. I'm happy he wore that Houston Rockets t-shirt because it helped me remember when I got the game and how old I was (a 18 year old college freshman, one year before my own brother was born). I wish I could have grown up having a brother relationship like that and I really wish my family could have recorded moments like this in my life for me to remember. You're truly a lucky guy to have these memories to look back on.
man as a dad this video really warms my heart. Seeing all of those happy moments of you he captured are just priceless. This is the joy I hope I'm doing a good job of giving to my boys. Great video man
You are so talented. Your Dad must be so proud of you, and must really appreciate you honoring his legacy by sharing all the hard work he put into filming these memories! Kudos ❤
Thank you so much for this....brings me back in time! I know the feeling! My late dad supported me on two of my favorite hobbies that I still have till today, collecting comic books and playing video games, I love the X-Men and I was so happy as a kid when he got me X-Men Clone Wars 2 on the SEGA Genesis.
This video is amazing... Your dad is so cool, so involved, and THIS is his reward, here you are 30 years later making strangers cry tears of joy and nostalgia. 10 out of 10 sir
Dude, I truly watch this with tears in my eyes… wishing that I was lucky enough to have people in my life record moments like this from my childhood. I grew up during the beginning of gaming, in the 1970s and 80s and if I could go back and watch videos of me in that time… I would be in heaven. So watching you back then and now reliving these moments… Is the next best thing. Thank you for posting these videos. Hope your summer is off to a great start.
You always do such a great job by editing these videos. BUT, I must say that for me, the best part of this video is how you appreciated and were grateful for gifts as a kid. This can make You and Your parents proud. Great video and great memories.
Wow this really hit a nostalgia spot for me. I was a street fighter kid and me and my buddy would go to arcades and play on SNES for hours. Just being with him playing games was the best place in the world no matter where we were. He passed way but this video really made me think of our time together. Thank you for making it!
Bro your channel is pure gold and should be part of gaming history. You’ve not only captured a beautiful time in gaming but also the emotion and thrill that came along with it. The joy of being a kid in the 90’s is captured perfectly in these videos unlike anything else on this platform. Thank you for sharing. I hope this channel gets the exposure it deserves. Much appreciated.
Man I’m just binging your whole channel, these videos are so well put together Coming from someone who just wants to relive his childhood so badly, I’m glad you can do so with your home videos 🙏🏽
What I love about this channel the most and idk if anyone else has said this. You feel like a childhood friend we all had and we relive it through your story. Thank you so much for the content.
This reminded me a lot of the excitement I always felt when a new big fighting game would come out. There definitely was not a shortage of good fighting games back then.
I am 38. I remember the moment I saw this game myself vividly,it melted my whole reality.it was literally the hottest thing in existence. I don't think the people watching your video understand just how impractical it was to actually obtain that, especially during that time. Most people don't know or have even met Anyone that has EVER owned a Sega Saturn. The fact that you even had a Sega Saturn is a movie in itself, the fact that your Dad somehow figured to get a copy days before it's release ,gifted it to you and sat and recorded everything let's you know God works in mysterious ways and that your Father's love for you was soooo great ,that even now he gives and provides for you.
God must have an amazing sense of humor to because your also ironically wearing a return of the mummy T-shirt! He lives beyond the grave blatantly.thats some flash paradox type scenario 101% trapped in the Game Alive forever like Tron.
Thank you for giving us the ability to see how it was to grow up in such a gr8 household. Such awesome memories your dad captured. God rest his soul. I can only imagine the joy and camaraderie it must've brought you all. I always wondered what it was like to be the kinda rich kid. This is pretty effing 😎 😅 Thank you for sharing. Can't wait for more🍻✌️
One of the greatest videos I've ever had the pleasure to sit through. Brought me to tears. Nostalgia, a mother's love, a Father's love, and the outcome of such wonders. Wonderful video
the focus man, those were such great times in gaming. was literally me and my friends crowding to a game back then. never gonna happen again. times have changed and everyone here is glad your dad captured these golden moments of gaming
This was probably the best time of my video game life. I played Children of the Atom in the arcade a ridiculous amount. Having it on Saturn.... I was the happiest. Love the video as always brother.
Incredible video. Hits harder when I found out from your other video that your dad has died. I'm 35 right now so I think we're around the same age. Fortunately I still have both my parents but recently I've been feeling so melancholic thinking about both of them getting older, and I'd randomly cry out of the blue just thinking about losing my parents someday. Thank you for sharing this memory. We often take for granted how important it is to have incredible parents. Not everybody is blessed with that.
Just wanted to say I’ve been watching your channel for a couple months and I’ve had such a flood of nostalgia. I’m a very similar age, about to turn 40, and my family never recorded anything. But watching this channel reminds me so much of my childhood it’s like looking into the past for me. Thanks for making this channel
man you are lucky to have an awesome cool beautiful parents like yours i was emotional when your mom hugged you after giving you x-men children of atom as a gift and when your dad encouraging you to beat the game with your buddy video games kept us away from the streets and its problems I'll always be grateful Sega Saturn and dreamcast were underrated , they were the only home consoles that give you the arcade vibes
Thank you bro. You brought back so many memories that almost made me tear up. People don't understand in this generation how special the retro days were to us and i would not trade those moments in life for anything. Those days were the best. It's the bonding with people that made them special. Now people just play on the Internet. Thanks again bro and keep them coming. I'm an old school retro gamer still till this day👍🏾 God bless 💪🏾
When i sày 1996 was a amazing year for Capcom for its games. And only a few months later you get the start of one of the greatest VS crossovers in history. I was 6 in 1996 as well (bday in March), my uncle had rented this from blockbuster. We would watch Xmen on Fox Kids and after would be hype to play the game. I miss my childhood so much 🙏.....
Dude that is an awesome dad. So tuned into what his son loves and lives for as a kid. Saw the game his kid raved about and jumped at the opportunity for a big “W” on Bday!
This touched my heart. I had a similar experience with my dad, the difference being he bought me an electric guitar and not a video game. But i remember having pretty much the same reaction. What a great memory. Thanks for sharing.
Never got the arcade version either on the Saturn or especially the PS1 version the only way to play the arcade version was either buy the arcade machine or keep on going to the arcade Saturn was the closest
Your parents were damn cool man. They sound like great people. Those were good times being a kid and a video game fan. I’m glad you all captured those moments. Must be emotional going over it and remembering the good times.
I got a similar story, but never had anyone to record it. XCotA is a blast, and the first step in my career as a competitor in fighting games. I've won several championships and now I'm teaching my kid to love them as much as I do.
I miss that feeling of excitement when you would just happen to discover something new in person like that, like you tripping upon the Xmen game after a movie. Just to be like "WHAT? This exists!?" I had a similar thing with the original Super Smash Bros. I had no idea that game was even a thing. And some random weekend my parents went out shopping and came home with it, and also randomly brought over two of my friends that they saw outside in the neighborhood to come play this new game with me. We played Smash Bros until our eyes bled that night.
For your parents to record all of these memories, they're the real superheroes.

What I miss most about being a kid is getting extremely excited about things. I loved your reaction to opening the game. As an adult, you buy your own stuff and it just isn't the same.
This is very true.
Yup
I've played a lot this game with my brothers on our local arcade. We almost every time were trying unlock Akuma. Good old days.
I had the exact same reaction when my mom gave me Goldeneye 007 for N64 in the 97 Christmas...I miss her so much...
Thanks for sharing your videos, it bring back memories exept that i don't memories recorded on VHS by my parents at the time :((((((( sadly
sure did very cool
God I’m thinking of importing a Japan version of saga Saturn and a copy of X-men vs street fighter
I was obsessed with xmen too. I took my $5 weekly allowance to walmart and got me a new xmen figure every week. Never missed an episode. I still remember it came on at 10am Saturdays. And if i had to miss it, we set the vcr to record it . This vid brought back those memories. Good times.
Same lol 🫡
What beautiful memories, it's unreal that you have all of this footage.
Three cheers for 90's camcorder Dad. Your mom seems sweet and a looker, too. Dad was a lucky man!
Happy you're sharing all of this with us. Really means a lot.
Ah the game that started it all in the marvel vs capcom franchise, it's unfortunate that when Disney bought marvel they had to stop.
They didn't have to stop. Disney can easily strike up a deal with Capcom. Disney simply don't care about the fans. They've proven that with Marvel and Star Wars.
I am sure the time will come again. That last game left a horrible taste in my mouth, Christ those models were ugly.
COTN 4VR !!!!!! FUCK THE MOUSE !!!!!!
This aged like milk
Capcom is releasing a collection of Marvel Fighting games, Children Of The Atom is included.
I felt this video in my soul! God bless you brother! 🙏🏾
Btw what year was this filmed in? And what year were you born? I love the fact you have footage. I was born in 1985. This gave me soo much nostalgia I shed a tear 😢
Thanks man. Filmed in April of 1996
@@MyRetroLifeis ur parents still alive man? And your bros or sis / and your friends that came over through the years ? Just wondering that’s all hope there all safe and healthy! Also I’m 40 born 83 and a huge gamer til the lord brings me home! Love ur channel brother!
@@Titus213-xc7piyou gotta watch more videos and you will know the answer my man 😢
I know the feeling. I remember getting a Super Nintendo for christmas with F-zero, Super Mario, and Pilot Wings! Felt like my heart was just overwhelmed with joy.
This is golden video. Your parents are so precious for this one. From gamer to another, awesome stuff bro.
When you hugged your parents. That was the best part of the video. ❤
“Controlling the Saturday morning cartoon” Exactly how I felt! The sprites, backgrounds and sounds got me high af haha
🚬🕶
All that footage that your dad recorded is priceless..😊
Amazed how you still have unshown footage, loved xmen cota
@@MattKittredge2112 I wasn’t even aware MK 2 was on Saturn! The more you know! :)
The Sega Saturn was the best console of the 1990's 🎉🧒🕹
@@tylerdenaro3365 I wouldn’t go that far but it was a great console!
@@tylerdenaro3365
Hands down.
The wonderful days of 90s video games. Love X-MEN video games too!
Thank you for sharing
I love fighting games and seeing this historical footage is great. Seeing your videos brings me back to my childhood .
A true love letter to all parents out there something so simple for grown-up people to gift to the young kids they will always remember 💙 ❤️
Bro you're so lucky. I had neither parent but I enjoyed my Sega Saturn. These were good times. Wish I had moments like these captured. Awesome vid.
Dang! I just came to see 🙈 X-Men games 🎮. I didn't expect to get sucked in an emotional 😭 Rollercoaster 🎢🎡! I think 🤔 its adorable ❤🥰 how much your parents showed love to you & your friends. If i ever have kids this is the type of parent I want to be
Man your videos take me back, man. Thank You🎉
Man, having recording from the pre 2000's is a gem...I have pictures, but many have disappeared and recordings of anything were rare. Video camcorders were really expensive back then, the the tapes were also expensive ....you have an awesome father man, glad you are sharing these memories as it helps me reminisce about life back then in general ..homes, life, everything
I wanted to comment! Thank you for posting that you have them turned on! I bet your friend Bryan was an awesome guy to be around. 😊
He IS awesome guy not was lol
X-men helped me get through my parents divorce
Thank you for sharing this! Fantastic video o/ I wasn't there but man I felt like I was. I had a similar experience but with Spider-man. I got my first Sega Genesis and with it was Separation Anxiety! You could play as Spidey AND Venom and beat up bad guys. It was amazing! o/
Comments, where we're going we don't need comments
Fantastic video. I wasn't an X-Men game kid, but the comics, cartoons and toys. Holy shit that was life man. The old video cuts really hit home man, awesome.
I was very puzzled why "you had disabled" comments but it all makes sense now
I'm glad I ran across your channel with this video first. The excitement and enthusiasm your dad captured is priceless. You guys had a LOT of cool stuff, but it sure feels like your folks understood it only mattered if it was a part of the love you guys had for each other. Super RAD. Yep, I said rad. 🙂
Leaving a comment before UA-cam decides to be stupid again
The way he hugged his dad after opening the game is so beautiful, these clips are gold thanks for sharing with us!
I can see how important this all was for you, your dad is great, I'm glad you shared this part of your life with us.
Man, it’s so admirable to see how amazing your dad is. Your vid is pure magic. Couldn’t stop smiling watching it.
Man these videos always hit me in my feels. Love it man!!
man as a dad this video really warms my heart.
Crazy part is now sometime this year 2024 the Marvel vs Capcom Collection for the Switch, PS4/5, and Steam.
These videos are just so rare , more rare than the actual game maybe. Having this footage & you're dad is the OG vlogger
Man I’m just binging your whole channel, these videos are so well put together
Coming from someone who just wants to relive his childhood so badly, I’m glad you can do so with your home videos 🙏🏽
Dude, your parents guiding me on being a parent..I remember this game in the arcade and the Saturn..props to them for catching the moment
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on UA-cam. So much memories. Absolutely beautiful. Your Dad is amazing beyond all belief.
Wow, thank you! Dad was loved by his family, friends and everyone who knew him. Miss him dearly!
Awesome parents you have there.
What a nice parents you had.
the focus man, those were such great times in gaming. was literally me and my friends crowding to a game back then. never gonna happen again. times have changed and everyone here is glad your dad captured these golden moments of gaming
This was probably the best time of my video game life. I played Children of the Atom in the arcade a ridiculous amount. Having it on Saturn.... I was the happiest.
Love the video as always brother.
Glad you enjoyed it! Completely agree
Thanks man! Glad the channel can do that for you
man you are lucky to have an awesome cool beautiful parents like yours
i was emotional when your mom hugged you after giving you x-men children of atom as a gift and when your dad encouraging you to beat the game with your buddy
video games kept us away from the streets and its problems
I'll always be grateful
Sega Saturn and dreamcast were underrated , they were the only home consoles that give you the arcade vibes
Tyler Machine in full force here. Always a delight to watch your videos and remember when life was way easier.
