In this episode we visit the final resting place of more than 44,000 German soldiers and airmen of the Great War. Among them are the student soldiers of 1914 who died in an event made famous in Germany as the "Massacre of the Innocents"

That was painful, as being heart-breaking, but you do an excellent job telling these men's story.

You know who that is, right? That's the author of All Quiet on the Western Front. He was a combat veteran of WW1.

Boelcke wasn’t just the father of German combat aviation; he was the father of all combat aviation. His Dicta Boelcke are as valid today as in 1915.

We keep fighting ourselves while being invaded by others who hate us. No more brother wars.

Hi Chris, German and big fan of VTH (and participant of the Egypt tour next year hear🙂) here. I like this video, but I’m just not sure about the quote from „Mein Kampf“ at the beginning. The way you present it quite passionately almost sounds to me as if you would have some sympathy or empathy for the author of these lines in this context. I know you don’t, but given what a nasty piece of propaganda this story in this horrible book was, I can’t help thinking zuhat it might have been better to just mention that Hitler was there and tried to glorify it in „Mein Kampf“. I know you don’t have any sympathy for Hitler and the Nazis at all, but for people who don’t you it might be slightly irritating. The written quote at the end from Remarque was much more fitting in my opinion. Maybe it’s just me … would be interested in your (and others‘) thoughts.

It's certainly not meant in any way to glorify him or his ideology, but his writing on the events of October 1914 perfectly illustrated the German mindset concerning the "Massacre of the Innocents"

I don't think that exploring Hitler's experience in WWI glorifies his ideology or monstrous crimes...
