School of Homer 2024 Ithaca Island

Some believe this ancient site to be the castle of Odysseus. It's definitely an important ancient site of some kind but it's unclear who it may be attributed to. It was definitely not Homer but it is very old. It features polygonal masonry which used no mortar which is very interesting. The stairs carved into the bedrock rise from a courtyard around a corner up to the "castle". It can be seen clearly with the drone. This site is still occasionally being excavated and the recent find of golden earrings and matching ring seen at the Stavros Museum were found here. This site is just off the road which continues up to the village and monastery of Enogi which offers amazing views of the whole island. The road is not for the faint hearted though if you're driving a car...however, ideal on a motorcycle.
