- Anoush (opera)
Anoush (also Anush, Armenian: Անուշ; Russian: Ануш) is a five-act opera composed by Armen Tigranian, based on the homonymous poem written by Hovhannes Tumanian in 1892. Originally composed in 1912, it was first performed in Alexandrapol, but it had to wait until 1935 for its full professional staging at the Armenian National Opera Theater. Until nowadays, Anoush remains in the repertoire of the theater.
The opera has special importance to Armenian musical history as one of its most significant accomplishments. Being a work of national character, Anoush was the first opera truly inspired by Armenian folk music and culture, and it is perhaps the most popular Armenian musical and theatrical work.
The opera is about the tragedy of a peasant girl (Anoush) whose short love affair ends in loss and death because of conflict between her lover (Saro) and her brother (Mossy).
Plot
The tragic love story is set in a typical 19th century Armenian village. Anoush is a young village woman who falls in love with a shepherd, named Saro. One evening, at a village wedding celebration, Mossy, Anoush's brother, and Saro fight in a friendly wrestling match. However, instead of letting Mossy win, as is the prevailing custom, Saro violates the local code of honor and humiliates him by pinning him. Enraged, Mossy vows to destroy Saro, who is now his enemy. Eventually, Mossy shoots Saro dead, and from this loss, Anoush becomes insane with grief, and ends her life by throwing herself off a cliff.

I LOVE THE SOPRANO, G. GASPARIAN, SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SOPRANOS, SUCH A GLORIOUS THRILLING VOICE.
eastwest5412 She has a very unique voice which is higher than a soprano. It’s contralto. Very rare.
Thank you so much! I Love it!❤️❤️❤️God protekt Armenia!❤️
"Անուշ"օպերան ինձ համար աշխարհի եթե ոչ ամենա ամենա է, ապա լավագույների շարքում է։ Լսում եմ միայն տանը, քանի որ անընդհատ արտասվում եմ։
another world.....feeling free
This is a great opera. I saw it in Yerevan in 1985 and bought a Soviet vinyl recording which I still cherish. It is very dramatic and gloriously tuneful. It seems unknown outside Armenia so it is great news that they are performing it in California.
Il a été représenté avec un grand succès au célèbre Théâtre des Amandiers à Nanterre ,près de Paris en 2013.
I realize I am quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch new movies online?

OPERA IS MY FAVOURITE
ACT I
Anoush, her mother, and her brother, Mossy, live in the Armenian mountain village of Lori. Anoush hears her love, Saro, singing in the distance, and, hoping to see him, begs her mother to let her go to the spring where the village girls are gathering. At the spring, Anoush sings and dances with the other girls until Saro arrives. Saro tells Anoush of his passionate love for her, but she is made unhappy by premonitions of misfortune. At the village festival celebrating Ascension Day, Anoush’s forebodings are intensified. The villagers dance and sing, and then undertake wrestling matches whose traditional rules prescribe that every bout must end in a draw. The villagers urge Saro and Mossy to wrestle, but Mossy declines. The men leave, and the girls begin the customary holiday practice of fortune telling. When Anoush hears that her lover will die, shot through the heart, she exclaims that a curse laid upon her as a child has been confirmed.
ACT II
The villagers gather to celebrate a wedding and, in the midst of the general merriment, Saro and Mossy agree to entertain the guests with a wrestling match. Saro is caught up in the excitement of the match, and when he sees that Anoush admires his prowess, he forgets the traditional rules and defeats Mossy. Mossy is enraged and vows revenge.
ACT III
Mossy refuses to forgive Saro for humiliating him in the wrestling match, and although Anoush at first promises him to give Saro up, when he comes to get her she runs away with him. Meanwhile, Mossy sets fire to Saro’s haystack. Some months later, Saro, knowing that Mossy is intending to kill him, waits for Anoush to return from the village where she has gone to seek reconciliation. Mossy finds Saro and shoots him dead. After his body is discovered, Anoush goes mad with grief and flings herself to her death.
@Mariam Gevorgyan I'm glad you appreciate it.

I go to Armenia every summer and unfortunately, it's never on when I'm there. No one can inform me as to when it's on, not even at the opera house :(

🖤🧿🇦🇲🧿
We had to perform this in high school back in the days at Manoogian High School in Southfield, MI. Great memories of this, and we went to see the pro-production of it at Music Hall in Detroit. Thanks for posting!
Classic! Always loved Anoush Opera!
This was the first thing when I searched up my cat’s name Anoush. My brother named him that because the cat looked like the cat Anoush in the Big City Greens, I think.
great :)
C'est super beau!
Meravigliosa
This was played in full last Sunday during an FM opera show on Sundays in NY. I'm mildly into opera, and although certainly don't know a ton, usually don't come across operas I've absolutely never heard of. This was different than anything I've heard recently and am going to listen more carefully when I have a chance. Can anyone though translate for me the female choral singing in Act 1? Its haunting but real pretty, and I'm wondering what they're saying.
Okay, I found it on my own :) ua-cam.com/video/lBtbbQ1qsCo/v-deo.html

its not An*OU*sh. Its An*U*sh.
There is no right or wrong way to transliterate the word because Armenian words are to be written in the Armenian alphabet, not in the Latin alphabet, therefore it can be transliterated as Anoush, Anush, or Anoosh.
Christopher Aintabtsi
Its more correct to write *U* instead of *OU* because english itself doesnt have a specific representation of the *U* or *OU* sound. A simple example of an english word is the word Uranus.
To simplify things and make it more logical its more correct to write Anush instead of Anoush. Its simply a matter of logic.
stupidreligionz As you said there is no specific representation. Armenians from the former Soviet Union use "u", Armenians from Lebanon & Syria use "ou", and Armenians from Iran use "oo". It is simply not a matter of logic, its personal preference.
Christopher Aintabtsi
I just dont understand why represent a sound with 2 letters when YOU CAN do it with 1 letter. Making things more simple.
If its a language that has *oo* to represent *u* that i understand. But in case of english where you can choose whether write *u* or *ou* representing a foreign name as similar as possible, then you should choose *u*, since armenian language also uses one letter to represent that sound.
Most educated armenians living in armenia would translate Anush and not Anoush. I already explained why. Its a simple detail that makes difference and shows how an individual thinks.
Dont try to mention armenians living in other countries cause simply they are wasted from many points of view..
stupidreligionz Do you know what you're talking about? In Armenian we use "ու" to represent u, ou, oo. You obviously are not a decent person, if you believe that Armenians living in other countries are wasted. If it wasn't for the Diaspora, I doubt Armenia would exist today.
