Guilds of Ravnica is the time when official magic WPN stores finally appeared in my city. I have such awesome memories of this block. Seeing Illharg made me genuinely happy, it was my favorite card, Man, i miss those times so much

In my opinion people don't like him because he's successful and he's done more in his life than most others. And most of his success came from cardboard.
For the uncommons, the value is in the retro frame versions. Skullcrack, Mayhem Devil, Muddle the Mixture, Rhythm of the Wild, etc, all worth $3-$8 in retro foil.
I'm on the "retro frame good" team. Once this set was announced and I saw that there would be retro shocklands, I was sold. I didn't care what else was in the set, I knew I was going in big. I bought 4 reg boxes and 4 collector, because I make complete sets of some releases. I defended this set from announcement and still do. It's not perfect, though. Doubling Season and Smothering Tithe should have been saved for this set.
It's crazy seeing how worthless some cards have become. I remember trying to trade for as many lightning helix as I could get my hands on during the original Ravnica prerelease.
I remember in the past trading my playset of Remands for a complete Modern Vampire deck (without the Nighthawks). Each Remand goes up for 15€ back in the days.
It's just rules text. Print it and sleeve it. This is such a non-issue. You idiots tell everyone to proxy unless cards get expensive, then you pretend proxies don't exist.
I was there, Gandalf. I sold a lot of extra playsets of Muddle the Mixture and Compulsive Research for as much as many of the playable rares at the time. Serum Visions was another big one for me.
@@mattyice2504 Not sure it's actually called "feathering" but the card border is not cleanly cut but has lots of whitening - you can see it well when Rudy fans out the cards and their borders should all be fully black. They are not.
They are Japanese printed probably because of warping issues. Now cards aren't unplayable. In Jpn print cut seems to be weak spot or just done differently. The material might be lighter and less plastic alike and is difficult to cut in some way. It's like a blade was dull but probably just come from different angle.

Rudy doesn't understand that a lot of cards aren't worth as much anymore because they've been power crept out of a lot of the metagame from supplemental sets like Modern Horizons and LotR. If there's lower demand for certain cards, of course they're not going to be worth as much. No doubt Wizards needs to ease the gas petal on some reprints but the "game piece army" isn't nearly the Boogeyman that Rudy would have you believe.
If he got an Utvara Hellkite somewhere that I didn’t see then Cyclonic Rift would be the 1 mythic not opened. Super sus with all the crap planeswalkers (Gideon, Ral, Domri, etc) that were opened in multiples.

That's the problem. In the game piece era, everyone already has all the cards. It's like Hasbro thought the world was going to end in 2023 and now they're in an awkward position of having to keep going.
It's almost like the cards are primarily printed for people to be able to play with them. I got a few cards i was not able to before. I am much happier spending 4$ or so on a few cards than the 40-80 it was before.
I like this set it’s just over priced for its value inside. But i like the foil retro look and the anime art is actually pretty cool for the most part, some do look very 3d generated or something but most are nice.

So many very expensive foils, or that used to be. Really shows effect of reprinting and how prices behave when value is tried to harvest from such sensitive group. Totally cashed out Ravnica cannibalizing historical sets as hungry as possible. There are just no treatments available that gives value for these cards. Even serialization is lazy. They really hand out shocks to give at least some value back.

The collector boosters have a foil mana slot that can either have a guildgate, a signet or a shockland or Chromatic Lantern. (58% Guildgate, 33% Signet, 9% Chromatic Lantern or Shockland.)
I remember when you use to get 15$ shocklands in $3 packs. They were none foil basic frames. Now you can get printed to death foil one for $15 in a $30 pack. Am I missing something.
This takes me back to 2005/6 when Ravnica first released. The OG shocklands!! Ravnica City of guilds (along with Guildpact and Dissension) was an amazing block, only second to the legendary Urza block.
the retro foil common/uncommon slot does still hold some solid value. Muddle the mix, skullcrack, debt to the deathless, lightning helix, farseek, etc I opened a total of 4 boxes and got probably 30-35 shocklands lol and this poor patron didnt even pull a single cyclonic rift in a whole case
Some of these collector packs are decent, that serialized card is disappointing though......most are like 100 or so that one is one of the weaker serialized cards....also rudy just chucking a foil guardian project and a cloudstone curio in a bulk pile lol
Additive shock lands are pricing a little more than 10 bucks a piece here in Canada some of those shocks are 40+ especially full art foils and old borders. that last box had some incredible value. boxes are around 400 plus tax here so he's averaging 30 bucks a shock with 9 shocks is over half your box value. Only problem is the other slots are a shot in the dark. Some are 10 to 15 or 25 some are 50 cents....even the anime art. Give these about 2 years and they'll inflate again

You shouldn't have anything to do with remastered sets. They shouldn't even exist. All those cards are already available and even if you're going to reprint a lot of the heavy hitters that need to drop in price, it shouldn't include the commons and uncommons that are now going to be worth literally nothing. We need a 5-year minimum between reprints even for commons
Dude, they weren't worth much to begin with, old players have been losing so much on what they bought you can't even complain about a preconstructed product, I played for 20 years and lost thousands in singles through reprints, and I wouldn't even dare to complain because I know it's even worse for players who started at the beginning Reprints are a good thing for the health of the game, I don't mind losing bucks from time to time, those would be worthless if nobody cared about the game, and the best way to do it is to gatekeep with expensive singles

I think you overlook that a lot of these cards have fallen out of favor due to power creep even more so than they are reprinting them a lot.
