Just watched this video after Valorant dropped on console, been waiting 3 years to play the game and I finally can and this video just taught me everything I need to know about shooting, as a cod player I spray way too much and I panic because it was forgiving in cod thank you SO MUCH this is very helpful
The first tip was the best for me cuz when im not panicking i mostly one tap everyone but when im not feeling it i instantly panic and spray instead of moving my crosshair to adjust it
This has genuinely been one of the hardest shooters I’ve ever learnt because I’ve only ever played “call of duty” style gameplay. Or just any console game in general really. I’ve played cod, halo, rainbow six, etc, but I’ve never played a game where it’s much more beneficial to stop, aim, and shoot a couple bullets. Finally just started getting the muscle memory to not spray but before I figured this mechanic out I was loosing my mind lol
I don't play Valorant. But as someone who went from console to pc, then back, and back AGAIN; my aim and reflexes are all over the place. Already finding applications for a bit of this advice in the game I play most right now: TF2. So, thank you!
This what I call a good video, informative and short which makes the content enjoyable. The only thing that holding my performance in valorant is my connection/fps but it doesn’t matter; Earn a sub!
Great vid! And I have something to add as additional info. Counter-strafing has its name because in CS even after you release the strafe key, your character won't stop immediately but it will still move in the direction for a brief moment - making your shot inaccurate when you might think that you've stopped moving. The idea of counter-strafing is by pressing the *opposite movement button* to make your character immediately stop moving, hence why the term is *Counter-strafe*. In Valorant, counter-strafing is a useful but unnecessary technique since your character will almost immediately stop moving by just letting go of the key (you might not even realize it). Many Valorant players use this technique because of muscle memory from CS or simply because they're taught that way. In some other videos, I've noticed many comments saying that deadzone/-ing is just valorant word for counter-strafing when it's actually not. To avoid misinformation, here's what they meant in short, - Counter-strafing is when you press the opposing movement key to stop (and to shoot). - Deadzoning is when you rhythmically move sideways and stop (very low to 0 velocity) and shoot, then repeat right after so that you're not a stationary target. To do deadzoning, you can counter-strafe (pressing the opposite movement button to stop) and shoot OR you can either simply let go of the movement key to stop and shoot, then repeat this process. Deadzoning doesn't necessarily mean you have to keep moving to left or right, you can also vary it by moving e.g. left -left-right or right-left-right-right-left. The goal is simply to be unpredictable to your enemy in the duel while also to not make you an easy stationary target. Not to be confused as well with "Jiggle/Jiggling" where you *swiftly* move to one direction (typically to left or right) and then you press & hold the opposing key while letting go of the initial key so that you immediately move back to your original position. This is why it's called "Jiggle peeking".
Tip I learned: The player head is about the height of one of the boxes. Like the green ones structure by metal which appear in multiple maps. You can use this to help.

You can combine the not shooting practice with calling out the enemy immediatly, and then watch back your clips to see how calm you remained. Gives you 2 things: an indicator to see how calm you were + practice of calling out enemies immediatly (and it shows clearly if your ptt button is holding you back lol)
Ok I definitely agree that you should stay calm during an engangement and not resort to spray and pray but in my own personal opinion I feel that loading into a game of deathmatch to practice sometimes doesn't work due to better players who are complete sweats or getting surrounded by several enemies. But I do get your point and except for some unlucky deathmatches your advice is pretty solid. Also 100th comment lets go XD
what id like to add: in deathmatch, just play them with your own set rules, make it hard for yourself (eg. always let enemy shoot first, NO BODYSHOT) for counterstrafing, this is 100% a mechanic you need to master, there’s 2 types, in the open, you can change how far you move left and right, or around a wall, practise this around a sage wall in the range, both sides.
First video that talks about how to learn to stay calm in gunfights, lately I tend to panic spray. I was d3 in episode 5 but now I‘m struggling in gold 2, I hope this helps me find my skills again 💀
To add a point to not confuse newer player, counter strafing imho is not the same as dead zoning. Counter strafing is a CS tech to shorten the time for the character to stand still. While dead zoning is shooting during a dead zone

Love this video! Improved from S2 to P1 last season. Maybe put a point on how important it is to warm up before. My aim was WAY better when I've practicing tracking, one taps and counter strafing one taps for about 5mn average for each. I feel mor confident, more comfortable in the match and my duels.
personally, we all must have learend counter strafing from Counter strike, but by definition, you cant counter strafe in valorant (technically). so knowing this, i learned by my self that because letting go strafe button is the same as holding both button (a and d), it just gave me convident to hold something to grip on, rather than only tapping the opposite strafe or let go both button. but there are 2 down side of this technique: 1. if u panic, you would press unecessary strafe button, and it will definitely ruin ur aim 2. walking a+w will need to be countered with s+d, and etc, you can imagine how bad this will go in game
for me its really weird, most of my time i used to play CSGO, and i know how to counter strafe, how to wait a bit before instantly killing my enemy, and my crosshair placement. But in valorant is weird and i dont know why , i am just really panicky and my reflexes are insta crouching like in cs, but usually in CSGO if i focus a bit i can stop shooting instantly or spray , but in this game i dont have the capability. i'll try my best though, because CS2 is shit and i won't play it anymore.
I have ~200 hrs in ranked in Valorant after 3k in CS and its rough man. But over time you’ll catch a stride and just frag out. Thats when you feel yourself getting the hang of it. I recommend just dming a lot just as we would do on CS.
A bit late of the reply... But let me tell you why it used to happen to me and still happens every once in a while. 1. Overwhelmed A - Various Utility: Although csgo and cs2 have utility, they're your standard utility; unless you have a super coordinated team with many line-ups, it's much more difficult to overwhelm you if you were to anchor a site. Not only are utilities much easier to use (effectiveness), but also the sheer amount of different utility and combinations of utility a player and a team can have compared to cs (all players have the same util) can be a reason for overwhelm. With each new agent, there are new abilities. 2. Overwhelming B - Fast Paced: Although, cs's movements are faster than Valorant, there are multiple agents with speed abilities e.g.: Neon, Jett, Raze + tp like yoru and chamber... All they need is one of their teammates to set up a flash (easier to use even for a very low rank player) and next thing you know, you're flashed, stunned, 10hp, and the enemy raze is in your face. You die while he spits in your mouth. 3. Overwhelm C - Coordinated vs Uncoordinated: Because of the number of combos, it's easy to accidentally mistime a util which creates a chain effect. Val requires much more team work due to not everyone having the same util and their roles depend on this.. if your smoker or flashes die early, much harder to entry site. I want to write more on this, but this is just a comment and not a video. I think you got my point. You should get used to all the agents and their abilities the more you play. 2. First Game of the Day / A long break: Muscle Memory plays a big role in FPS games... It's normal to be not at 100% after a break (even 1day). However, the opposite can be true as well, you might've picked up a bad habit and is engraved in your muscle memory without realising. So taking a break might make you forget and reset your brain to the basics and the fundamentals. So take these games as a warmup game. 3. The "value" / "importance" you've to Rank and MMR: The more you care, the more you'll feel the pressure and panic. The more you panic, the more mistakes you'll make. It doesn't mean you should troll and throw games... Just remember these are fake ranks/titles and their values are self-imposed. At the end of the day, it's just a game, so have fun; otherwise it'll feel like a job/chore! 4. Confidence - It's a game of confidence, but don't be an ego maniac and swing everything (unless you are 1 tapping everyone - we have some games like that though, they're the best). Be smart about it. 5. Positioning, Timing 6. Hung Up - Don't get hung up on previous mistakes, that loss streak, bad team mates, the enemy teams ranks or that enemy smurf. My first time reaching Immortal, I was in the dumps.. went from Dia2 to Plat1 and a sea of red, but afterwards I had an amazing win streak, went to Plat1 to Immo2 in less than a week (1 loss and each win 30+ RR), my highest rank before was Dia2 and played against a couple immos here and there. Don't be too hard on yourself, e.g.: I have ADHD and sometimes take the dumbest decisions, if I stay hung up on it, it'll only make my performance worse. 7. Look at Minimap (listen to comms) 8. Mute Toxic Teammates / Enemies (ik contradiction, but I'd rather have no comms than having to listen to my team mate complain and spew bs over and over pissing me off and worsening my performance 8. Find a Duo There is some more stuff, but I don't want to overwhelm you more than I already have. The best way to eliminate that panic is to keep playing (comp) and getting used to it. You don't need to VOD review, unless you're hard stuck and don't know how to climb (it could be a confidence thing, so try climbing on an alt - this was my approach when I was hard stuck Plat for over 300games, became Dia on my alt, then next Act became Dia on my main).

To avoid misinformation, here's what they meant in short,
- Counter-strafing is when you press the opposing movement key to stop (and to shoot).
This is why it's called "Jiggle peeking".
you actually never need to let go at all to deadzone and still have no movement error

but there are 2 down side of this technique:
1. if u panic, you would press unecessary strafe button, and it will definitely ruin ur aim
2. walking a+w will need to be countered with s+d, and etc, you can imagine how bad this will go in game
for me its really weird, most of my time i used to play CSGO, and i know how to counter strafe, how to wait a bit before instantly killing my enemy, and my crosshair placement. But in valorant is weird and i dont know why , i am just really panicky and my reflexes are insta crouching like in cs, but usually in CSGO if i focus a bit i can stop shooting instantly or spray , but in this game i dont have the capability. i'll try my best though, because CS2 is shit and i won't play it anymore.
gl bro 🙏 for me it's the opposite i do well in val but get absolutely destroyed in csgo
Amen on the CS2 part 😂
5. Positioning, Timing
7. Look at Minimap (listen to comms)
8. Mute Toxic Teammates / Enemies (ik contradiction, but I'd rather have no comms than having to listen to my team mate complain and spew bs over and over pissing me off and worsening my performance
8. Find a Duo
There is some more stuff, but I don't want to overwhelm you more than I already have.
@@souls.7033 i mean speaking from experience everything you said is true, thanks mate, i hope you have a great evening. Sadly i've stopped gaming sincne february, now im just casually playin Beamng Drive, maybe i'll get back to FPS someday.
