    ABOUT THE MARIMBA MALLETS
The Solo 1 models are the first choice when it comes to performing as a soloist with a brilliant and contrasting sound. With their transparent lines and powerful volume, the marimba sounds outshine even a symphony orchestra.
The hard plastic core is covered with several different layers of material that are finely tuned to each other. The core itself is made of quality material so that the mallets do not "splat".
Basically, all "Jasmin Kolberg Solo" model series (Solo 1 - Solo 4) are available in four degrees of hardness each, which are marked by colours: Yellow (hard sound), Red (concise sound), Blue (soft sound), Green (very soft sound).
In the model Solo 1 RED the winding is designed for a concise sound with a little more "warmth". Thus, the mallets enable a clear, concise sound over all 5 octaves, while a round sound is also possible in the bass range with a soft touch.
Within one degree of hardness, the set of 4 is again finely graduated. The bass mallet is a touch softer than the two middle mallets and the soprano mallet is a touch more incisive. This additional gradation allows an optimal utilisation of the entire tonal range while maintaining the same timbre. Thus, with one and the same set of 4 mallets, one can play beautiful full-toned sounds in the bass as well as still articulate clearly and distinctly in the top octave.
This is indicated by black rings from 1 (bass mallets) to 4 (soprano mallets). Of course, non-graded sets are also available.

    THE SYSTEM
    Solo 1 and Solo 2
The Solo 1 and 2 series have plastic cores with a brilliant sound character rich in contrasts. Depending on the chosen grade of hardness, a warm sound colour may be produced simultaneously.
The difference between Solo 1 and Solo 2:
Solo 1 has less wool around the core and is tightly wound. This produces an intense, evenly articulated sound. The mallet sound is voluminous but still direct.
Solo 2 has more wool around the core and is loosely wound. This makes a legato effect possible with a soft stroke, while the brilliant and precise sound character is maintained with a harder stroke.
    _______
    Solo 3 and Solo 4
The Solo 3 and 4 model series have a softer rubber core. Therefore the sound character of the marimba mallets is warmer in comparison to Solo 1 and 2.
The difference between Solo 3 and Solo 4:
Solo 3 has less wool around the core and is more tightly wound. The mallet sounds voluminous and soft in every dynamic, but still articulate.
Solo 4 has more wool around the core and is loosely wound. This makes an amazing legato effect possible with a soft stroke. When struck with more momentum, the sound becomes more direct, but still remains warm in every dynamic.
