Hi François. The Illusion of Life states that Charlie Mintz “took over the rights to the main character” in 1928, but you are of course correct that the rights to the Oswald name were never Walt’s in the first place. This vague description of events is not unique, a BBC article also states “Within a year, Oswald's distributor Charles Mintz had forced Walt out and taken over the rights to the series.”. Whilst it must have been a blow at the time, it was certainly a valuable lesson which set him up well for future success.
Amazing video! I gotta buy this book soon :) Glad this came up in my recommended!
Thanks very much! Hope you enjoy the book!
Nice piece of history. Thanks for the review. Stay safe.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Walt never lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit since he did not own them from the start! A lesson he remembered all of his life! ;-)
