  • Romeo and Juliet : Dance of the Knights - Sergei Prokofiev
    The Dance of the Knights is a famous composition of classical music from the ballet Romeo and Juliet (opus 64 act I scene 13) composed in 1935 by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953). The ballet is adapted from the 1582 tragedy Romeo and Juliet by English playwright William Shakespeare.
    This major and complex allegorical work by Prokofiev was commissioned in 1934 by the Kirov Theater in Leningrad. Prokofiev finally composes it for the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
    Prokofiev reused music from the ballet in three suites for orchestra and a solo piano work.

Romeo flees Verona after the death of his friend Mercutio and after having killed his rivals Tybalt, then Paris in a duel. Juliette fakes death with a potion to escape and run away from her family. Romeo, who ignores the pretense and believes her dead, ends his life in turn, before being joined in this tragic end by Juliet when she wakes up...

    Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev is a Russian composer, pianist and conductor, born April 11, 1891.
    He was recognized during his lifetime as a very creative avant-garde artist.
    From 1918 to 1936 he spent many years outside his country such as San Francisco, New York, London, Paris, Chicago.
