Influence in music works much the same way, whether you're aware of what you're being influenced by or not.
IMHO you probably got it from the final boss theme, even if not intentionally. I definitely never noticed the link until I heard that song, and _god_ knows I died enough times in this place (F*CK the chain whip, Pazuzu, and those goddamn flamethrowers)...
Go listen to Good Night Mom again and you'll see what I mean.
